The Doctors will return at Christmas

The closing moments of this evening’s Doctor Who series ten finale revealed that this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special will be a multi-Doctor adventure featuring the current Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and the First Doctor (David Bradley).

The cliff-hanger ending saw the Doctor fatally shot by a Mondasian Cyberman and begin to regenerate. Stepping out of the TARDIS into an arctic landscape, he fought off the glowing regeneration energy and fell to his knees, vowing that this time he would not live on and change into a new Doctor.

This was declared ‘ridiculous’ by an approaching figure, who mocked the Doctor as he stepped forward through the snow to reveal himself as the very first incarnation of the Timelord (“The original, you might say”) just before the credits rolled. The story will continue at Christmas.

Further casting and details for the Doctor Who Christmas special will be revealed in due course. As previously announced, the special will serve as Peter Capaldi’s farewell to the series, and will feature the debut of the next Doctor.

    Literally its not that hard.

They’ve already cast the actor from the sounds of it.

    Do a closed studio regeneration.

Series 11 isn’t set to film until January 2018 from what I’ve heard, as we’re due an autumn series in 2018 rather than a spring one.

    It’s not that impossible.

Unless the beebs wanna ruin it again, like they did with simm

Or sheer hatred that someone is substituting for William Hartnell and there will be haters. Personally loved it, done a good job playing Hartnell in an Adventure in time & space.

The other question that hasn’t been asked will they dare to substitute Ben & Polly as well? If as it appears this is set on the 10th Planet. Or is this only a Cameo by the 1st Doctor, we’ll find out early Boxing Day morning (or i will as i live in Australia).

The Master killed off? And in the 1st episode next year the Daleks will be killed off then the Cyberman and before the end of the season every major baddie will be gone.
No i think the Master will turn up sometime in the future, probably with a new face. Missy gave him enough time to get back to his TARDIS before his regeneration. As it was never actually confirmed that Missy followed Simm, there is plenty of Room for more Masters.

I’m surprised the first Doctor didn’t say to the twelfth Doctor… “So then my boy, I see Steven Moffat has sent you back in time to rewrite my era, hmmm, hmmm, how dare he interfare in my timeloins, er lines!

I didnt say he did. I said it would have been cool if we had saw the regeneration. My question was ‘has the Master been killed off?’. Even if your theory of him not regenerating into Missy straight away is correct, he will at somepoint therefore if Missy died then the Masters life ends there. Or do people think missy is still alive?

Are we sure saxon turns into missy straight away. Give me proof, not a little bit of info we can infer from. Actual. Concrete. Proof

    Brilliant episode. King Moff!

One question, surely the Master hasnt been killed off, what with Missy not able to regenerate. I think it would have been cool if a) we saw the Masters TARDIS b) saw the Saxon/Missy regeneration c) saw Missy regenerate into new Master.

Peter Capaldi was the clear favourite before he got the role…and it was no surprise to me when he was announced.

it is actually impossible, they will start filming the new series in the coming months and a casting announcement will have to have been made.

If not Kris Marshall, i hope that its someone who is new to acting so that tge very first thing they ever star in is Doctor Who as the Doctor. That way no one will have anything to compare the actor to that they would have previously done and also gives the show the much needed revamp that it needs.

‘Kris Marshall is the clear odds on favourite.’ That indicates nothing. For all we know, they could bring in an almost totally unknown actor to do it, like they did with Matt Smith.

I agree. I would really like him as the Thirteenth Doctor as he was great in Death in Paradise

As nice as it would be to keep it a surprise, it’s never going to happen. Just look at everything that was spoiled from the finale (Mondasian Cybermen, John Simm Master, First Doctor). In this day and age it’s near impossible to keep such things a surprise, but, as long as the stories stay good, I, for one, can forgive it.

Yeah I agree! I would love it to be a suprise. To be honest I thought they were getting at Heather being the next doctor for a second.

I’m really looking forward to this special now. I reckon the story will be then convincing each other to regenerate. 12 will show 1 all the good he will do in his future regenerations and as a result 12 will probably convince himself to move into the Chibnall days!

I wonder when we will find out who the next doctor is??

I presume the 1st Doctor and 12th Doctor are both nearing their regenerations in the South Pole?!?! But when does this happen during ‘The Tenth Planet’? Does the first Doctor sneak out of bed, and out of the snowcap base at some point during episode 3 !?!?!

Kris Marshall is the clear odds on favourite. I would actually be surprised if it’s not him.

Never thought I’d be so excited for a ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special, but after that STUNNING finale, at the end of an excellent series (best in ages), I’m absolutely pumped! Bring it on!

Great for the fans, and confirms to the general public, that Moffat’s version of the show is made for the fans. Hurry up Chibnall and move this great series forward and don’t look back!

I really hope the end credits reads

The Twelfth Doctor – Peter Capaldi.
The First Doctor – David Bradley.

And introducing Kris Marshall as The Thirteenth Doctor.

I LOVE MULTI DOCTOR STORIES! I really like it how it will be the first doctor and the recent doctor. But bascially there will be three doctors in this one due to the fact there will be a regeneration.

So it seems the story will be both of them learning that change is good and should be welcomed. Slightly meta there, Moffatt?
