Did you spot all the past Doctor references in The Name of the Doctor?
The Aztecs
The first Doctor clips were a were a mix of archive footage from The Aztecs and new footage.
The Five Doctors
The second and Third Doctor clips were originally from The Five Doctors
The Invasion of Time
The Fourth Doctor clip was from The Invasion of Time
Arc of Infinity and Dragonfire
The Fifth Doctor clip was from The Arc of Infinity, the Sixth Doctor clip was new footage and the Seventh Doctor clip was from Dragonfire.
The Name of the Doctor
The Eight Doctor may have appeared briefly just before the Second Doctor clip (blink and you’ll miss it!). The Tenth Doctor also appeared briefly.

Dr’s darkness.
And the GI said the valeyard was a future name for the dr (or one of his versions)
And with the possibility of a paradox (<3) it could well be the dr always klnew/knows its a future self who already ended the timewar crossing his own timeline.
Hell who cares tho! epic episode, now a bloody long wait :S

May 21st, 2013 - 1:44pmAs far as i’m concerned, John Hurt’s doctor comes years later (hence being an older actor – at last) who broke the promise. Sonce all 11 so far have been doing good, and since there’s no reason ANOTHER time war could break out, the doctor continues going on doing good until one day, (tardis sounds here) doctor 18 or 26 or whatever steps out into a war. Naturally he wants to help out. He tries to find the usual win-win situation and fix everything.but this time he cant. So he does the best thing he can. But he kills in the process, and so corrupts the Name of the Doctor. Hence, we follow the storyline of John Hurt, the bad doctor, until Matt Smith’s airtime is ready to be played again. hence, filler episodes. But i reckon in the end when the Hurt doctor has to make his big choice, something will happen like Smith comes in and stops him or something. That just seems probable. That’s just what i got from it, anyway. I’ll stop there, shall i.

There was a series of books stating it was the 8th doctor, the same one in the movie, who ended the time war. It depends in if you count the books as series relevant. Although other things have changed since they bought the series back…

The entire point of the show is Doctor WHO? The title is a trap pretty much to gain attention and lead to what Eleven says at the end, what has been done in the the name of the Doctor.
