Blink and you could miss them but the Weeping Angels are the best loved (or should that be most feared?) monsters in the Doctor Who universe, according to a RadioTimes.com poll.
Created by current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, and first appearing in 2007 episode Blink, the Angels are living statues, unable to move as long as they are being watched. But close your eyes or look away and they’re instantly on the move, stone fangs and claws bared. And if the lights go out…
More than 10,000 fans voted in the RadioTimes.com poll, with nearly half (49.4 per cent) choosing the Angels as their favourite monsters. Classic Who adversaries the Daleks were in second place with 17 per cent of the vote, followed by another Moffat creation, The Silence, in third place with almost 12 per cent.
The Doctor’s fellow Time Lord, The Master, and Moffat’s microscopic swarm The Vashta Nerada, were in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with the Cybermen, Davros, the Zygons, the Ice Warriors and the Sontarans completing the top ten.
RadioTimes.com editor Tim Glanfield commented on the results: “The Daleks had generations of children cowering behind the sofa in the past, but our poll shows Steven Moffat’s terrifying Weeping Angels are the stuff of modern nightmares – remember, don’t blink!.”

other monsters have beaten the daleks
the daleks will always be the definitive dr who monster(and the cybermen)
the weeping angels might be the scaryist and THIS YEARS fav but the daleks(yes and the cybermen) will always be the top monsters
besides years ago fans would be cross if the cybermen had beaten the daleks

I first got into Doctor Who with, Partners in Crime, 3rd April 2010, when I rushed home to realise i’d practically missed it!
I’ve got to say the only episode I haven’t watched since then was the Waters of Mars! The Flood scared me!

June 10th, 2012 - 12:33pmThe Daleks suffer from the fact that they are an easy target for parody and jokes. Same with the Cybermen because they are both well known. It’s much harder to take something seriously which you’ve seen have the mick taken out of it on many comedy shows so I suspect that helped the weeping angels top the poll. As for a lot of Moff monsters being in the Top 10, well he’s the current showrunner so his vision for Doctor Who is the one in people’s mind. I also don’t think RTD was great at creating monsters which stuck in the mind of the public, he was more concerned with characters.
