Would you say that the Child who was the Doctor in barn was the younger version of William Hartnell’s First Doctor?

Okay… I really enjoyed it, but I don’t like fiddling around with the Doctor’s past. Occasionally, it’s great, but it’s happened a lot recently. It was pulled off well and worked well in the episode, but I just kind of wish that Moffat would stop adding little bits into the Doctor’s life. It’s a personal preference, I’m sure lots of people love the additions to a Who history. In fact, I’d count myself among them if it wasn’t a frequent occurrence.
As for the rest of the episode, I admit I was disappointed by the scares we were promised, but I really enjoyed it as a whole.
9/10 for me, but I’m not letting “that scene” alter my verdict

      September 13th, 2014 - 8:42pm

and I hated it but I did like the whole timelord barn thing the rest of the episode seemed a bit rushed

    • The Temporal Jelly Baby

      September 13th, 2014 - 8:45pm

Rushed…no, I don’t think it was rushed. It was a good length for the plot in my opinion.

      September 13th, 2014 - 8:46pm

Well I guess we have different opinions of the episode then

      September 13th, 2014 - 10:07pm

I agree with daleksean, it did seem a bit rushed. I think the scripts have been poor this season, and I don’t rate Peter Capaldi’s acting as the doctor (although I’ve seen that he can act in some other roles). I do however think that his job has been made much harder due to the scripts. The series 8 scripts scream of self indulgence. I’m hoping episodes 7-10 may be better as the only episodes which Moffat or Gatiss haven’t written or co-written.

      September 13th, 2014 - 10:14pm

I agree with daleksean. This was just abysmal. Doctor Who is supposed to offer an exciting adventure every week that children and adults can enjoy. I realise that the content of ‘Listen’ may well have repercussions for the rest of the series, but who could be entertained by endless talking and talking and talking and nothing actually happening. I have no interest in Danny and Clara’s date! I love story arcs, but not at the cost of 45 minutes of nothingness!

10/10, best of the series so far. Although I feel it had to be a bit scarier, and less focussed on Danny and Clara. And I thought the child in the barn was Danny, I was like WHAAT? xD Thank goodness that got explained now.

Just awesome. I’m continuing to love the chemistry between peter capaldi and jenna. I loved the twist at the end with clara under the doctor’s bed in the barn on gallifrey, it was a rare although brief insight into the doctor’s childhood . I swear something monumental is coming this series, i don’t know what, but i can just sense it.

    • The Temporal Jelly Baby

      September 13th, 2014 - 8:40pm

That is just one plothole which isn’t actually a plothole – you’re supposed to decide for yourself! It’s either fear, or as the Doctor mentioned, some sort of species which is very good at hiding!

    • The Figure Adventurer

      September 13th, 2014 - 8:41pm

  • The Dark Doctor (Formally Eternal Dalek)

From that we now know why the Doctor ran away from Gallifray. Because (we presume) his farther wanted him to join the army and he didn’t plus other things.

I’m left wondering if the barn where we sore him as a chidl is the same barn the War Doctor activated the moment in.

I’m all for believing the Doctor’s reasons for leaving Gallifrey were far more complicated and confusing than anything the show could ever show us.

Just too much emphasis now on pretty Clara and ‘smart’ talk – I watched tonight to give a second chance and practically given up. It was so much better some years back when storylines evolved around other characters integral to stories with the Doctor. I like Capaldi, not the writing.
