Do we now have confirmation that this terry nation estate Dalek deal with the BBC is untrue? Due to the fact that there wasn’t a single Dalek scene for the entirety of 2018 and so the BBC would have broken the rules of this mythical agreement if it existed

People want the title sequence because it’s doctor who… have you heard it!?! It’s iconic!!!

Yeah, you’re probably right Anonymous. It doesn’t matter, as long as the ratings are high. The characterisation of the Doctor; the poor storylines; glaring plot holes; no titles etc.
In fact, why stop there? As long as the ratings stay high… You could change the TARDIS from a blue police box to a red phone box; Davros could showcase his new cross-dressing, drag-queen alter ego, Davina; and the Cybermen could be made of gold! Genius.

Because anonymous it’s all about established tradition and convention. Even for a sci-fi show.

Really like it, quite original story line. The whole team worked well, good to see Ryan’s dad finally , adds a bit more character building. Think the UNIT phone call was just a nod to say UNIT is still in the series consciousness , after all it said suspended not closed down, so it can still come back. And only being an hour long how would they have fitted a UNIT sub plot in. Loved the cobbled together dalek. Shame have to wait a year till we get any more who.

The lowest who ratings are from the classic series. When you factor in the limited channels the audience percentage was higher in the classic series yet many stories failed to get above 5m viewers. So going by what people are saying now that must mean the classic series was rubbish then!

That title sequence has always been a fundamental part to dr who since the beginning. Also people are angry at the direction of the show, and it isn’t very successful as it has a very low audience score of 24% on rotten tomatoes and has some of the lowest episode scores on IMDb, also the ratings are the first in the modern are to have a decline until the finale, so not exactly successful.

So doctor who’s figure of 5.15 is poor? Luther gained 5.63 doctor who still did very well. People just seem to be determined for it to be a failure. And why can’t people get there heads around the fact that the dalek casing is not a redesign! It’s clear in the story that the dalek cobbles the casing together!

Ok the title sequence is 30-40 secs. So why are people so bothered it’s not there? It really doesn’t matter. Why are people so angry that the show is successful?

Er, 5m for 7pm is very good these days. Add the revised figure and it will probably hit 7-8m.

I think the missiles the dalek had weren’t made at the farm but were in one of the boxes like the one containing the gun.

    Doctor Stu,
That’s a really poor excuse; not a reason. The title sequence is like 30-40 seconds long. Can you imagine any other long-serving show (e.g. Eastenders, Holby City) without opening titles? There’s a long history of stories being extended by a few minutes in the TV schedule, such as Last of the Time Lords and The Eleventh Hour, and that’s never come at the cost of the opening titles. The Doctor Who title sequence is the first thing you hear and see in the opening episode of the series in 1963 and is therefore as iconic as the TARDIS and the Daleks.

The titles were dropped twice in series 11, in the space of a few months. I can only recall it being done once in what was 10 years at the point of it happening for the capaldi episode sleep no more, it might of been done another time but i dont think so. And for the excuse of ‘it was extended and needed to fill every minute’ , what about deep breath which was 75 mins? And kept the titles. Same with the majority of specials and end of time. I think doctor whos just lost its magic…

Some people on YouTube and elsewhere seem to be really upset ( if not livid) about the Dalek “redesign” when quite clearly in the episode and interviews on the making of the episode it’s meant to be only an improvised design short of a total preferred rebuild back to the Dalek’s original casing when it first arrived on earth.

It’s a bit like the first improvised Iron Man suit Tony Stark devises to escape from Afghanistan; not the newest and most state of the art one he has in the latest Avengers installments.

Dan 23 it said in the story that they burned its casing down then chopped the creature into 3 parts. Two were safely hidden but one was intercepted in Sheffield and stayed there. The casing we see is not it’s real casing but one it cobbled together.

Best viewing figures, best reviews and best audience appreciation for years. Brilliant. Audios not officially followed as cannon but always considered as separate by main series.

Having slept after last night’s episode I can now give my honest opinion on the whole series 11, I was never expecting much and didn’t get much. Chibnall actually managed to drag the show down from rock bottom to the depths of despair and mayhem, who would have thought it possible?

Jodie is a weak Doctor without any gravitas at all, her Earth defending speech was cringeworthy, I expected the Dalek to laugh itself to death.
Other that Graham the companions/friends are wooden at best.
The Alien/threats were comical and included a frog!
A positive was some ideas were interesting but let down by the dreadful writing and acting.

I can understand why Capaldi’s Doctor didn’t want to go on, he clearly knew what was coming.
As I see it The Doctor died with Capaldi’s Doctor, an imposter has taken over his body and we just need to wait until Jodie’s Doctor regenerates and Chibnall leaves and we should get back on track.

Some may say “why watch if you don’t like it”? Well I don’t want the show cancelled again so I must do so to try stopping that from happening.
We have hit rock bottom now the show may improve with Jodie’s Doctor next series but with Chibnall’s and Jodie’s disrespectful comments on how fans should see the show I doubt this will happen.

Every cloud has a silver lining and one hour after Doctor Who finished we had the pleasure of Idris Elba as Luther, top quality drama on the polar opposite of the spectrum to the current Doctor Who.

Change will come and THE DOCTOR will return, we just have to wait it probably will get worse before it gets better!

Resolution 1/10 and that is for Graham

Season 11 1/10, the worst season EVER.

This was another pretty awful episode with plot holes aplenty. How did ninth century humans disable the most powerful being in the universe? When the mutant dalek was on Lin’s back, where did it disappear to when she put her coat on? How were Lin and the mutant dalek able to make missiles in that shed? hmm!…baffling..
The new look dalek real summed up the whole series.Cobbled together and not the real deal .

I really enjoyed this Episode and I thought that it did a brilliant job in making the daleks scary. While I think the Ryan confronting his Dad Dragged I feel it made the ending more emotional as he fights over the Dalek for him. After all forgiveness is something no dalek can understand. I am sick of hearing people say Doctor who is Dead! Don’t be so over dramatic after all many fans including myself wanted The Daleks to return and we got what we wanted. Lets be honest okay it was not the Best Doctor Who Episode but it was a decent Dalek episode that was original and showed how clever, cruel, resourceful, determined and destructive. You can’t expect every little thing to go your way and clearly you need to rewatch the episode because their are facts you are clearly missing like How could the Dalek be killed with an oven? It’s casing is made from rusty earth metal probably steel and iron so of course it would be possible. How was the Dalek beaten in the 9th Century? I believe it was from sheer numbers of the army it was against plus this Dalek was one of the first Skaro daleks so it wouldn’t be as tough as the Time War Daleks and only three soldiers remained out of thousands so the Dalek did a pretty good job for a one manned army. Why does the new Dalek Design look so different and odd? Because The Dalek was making it’s new casing out of damaged casing parts fused with spare parts found in a farm warehouse so it’s obvious it would look very different from the usual dalek casing also The Dalek was working using a human that was gradually resisting and The Dalek was probably rushing because it knew the Doctor was on the way.

The titles were dropped because the episode was specially extended and wanted to fill every minute of its run time, the same thing as episode 1. It’s hardly disrespectful seeing as they were dropped only twice out of 11 episodes

There wasn’t any PC messages at all but regardless of that what does this mean for the UNIT audio series if unit has been disbanded. Won’t the audio contradict the main show or is this something that’s going to be resolved in audio form and then never explained in the main show. I don’t understand how you can get rid of UNIT, what happens to the base at the Tower of London, the alien artefacts, the black archive etc.

I think what this story shows the most is that we need classic (or series 1-10) monsters back! Words can’t express how much I loved hearing Jodie say “Dalek” and “Skaro” for the first time. Hopefully, Series 12 will give us some Cybermen, Sontarans, Zygons, etc, and UNIT!

Yeah my dad not in my life since I was little. But i didn’t care much for the long chats with the dad. My questions are: Why was the dalek in the 9th century?/how are they able to defeat it in 9 century? / why chop it up?/ So if the dalek was in Sheffield what was in the other locations/If this was the first dalek to leave skaro & go to earth why it caseing and tech like that?

Poor poor poor. And I thought it couldn’t get worse or look any cheaper than a diy dalek. It’s as if the writers were using the show as a vehicle for their own blinkered views. Maybe the next series will be serialized in the guardian newspaper first…time for a McCoy style hiatus I think

I know comments are disabled on these threads but can someone please explain to me why the producers dropped the opening titles yet again???

When the episode started, I thought great; we’re going to have a really tense and engaging pre-title teaser. There were some really great moments in the opening 10 minutes too… The artefact coming to life; the mutant attached to Lynne etc.

Why did they not include the titles? I just think it’s sacrilage to the show’s proud history and also really disrespectful to the Bernard Lodge, Delia Derbyshire and Ron Grainer to not include them.

Sorry but I feel this was like the rest of last year’s awful a weak script a weak Dr and an insult to the daleks and as usual had to drop pc comment in . I for one am not bothered it’s not coming back till next year

I really enjoyed this episode and it is by far the best episode of season 11. A lot of the episodes felt like they were resolved far to quickly. I also felt like Jodie has finally gotten a handle on the Doctor. It always takes actors at least a series to get the character, season 2 was terrible by and large, season 5 was rough, as was season 8. So I have high hopes for the new series in 2020. If that series looks as good as this I am happy to wait.

I don’t think this will convert anyone who already hates this series. I feel like they are already set against it no matter what they do. But hopefully it gets more casual viewers into the fandom.
