What Did You Think of Spyfall Part Two?
Now that the second episode of series 12 has aired what did you think? Was it everything you had hoped for or not what you expected.
Spyfall: Intelligence agents around the world are under attack from alien forces, so MI6 turn to the only one who can help: the Doctor.

Again some good points….
Bradley Walsh exceptional as ever, should have been cast as the Doctor but at least he gives us something to be positive about every episode.
I like Sacha Dhawan as the Master, he has a real presence about him which was lacking with Michelle Gomez although I liked her portrayal as a vengeful Romana! (yes that was a lost opportunity sadly)
Lenny Henry was very good in his limited time on screen.
Bad points….
Jodie still unable to let go of the sonic screwdriver.
Jodie as the imposter Doctor.
The plane could have crashed 5 times with the amount of time it dived towards destruction!
Ryan and Yaz not as strong as last week.
The Masters TARDIS remained as the house? I thought his TARDIS worked?
The Master defeated all too easily, he should have used his tissue compression eliminator on her, when will he ever learn?
Not going to complain about the fact that Gallifrey has been destroyed again, will be interesting to see how and why the Master did this?
Everything they know is a lie???

January 6th, 2020 - 7:17pmI did enjoy the episode but there was a slight tendency to rehash sound of the drums series three trilogy with the conversation that Barton had spoken over what the master was doing like knowing their details we know where you are, etc. It was like tenants episode bud a cheaper version, I would love to see some new worlds in this series too not all just set on Earth. The Master was ok but I still miss Missy 🙁

January 6th, 2020 - 2:11pmThought I’d dive in and give it another try. Not a bad episode, but nowhere near as outstanding for me as some felt.
The writing is still sloppy in places (wrong place for Four’s fall in Logopolis, the Master deadlocking a cockpit bomb so the Doctor couldn’t defuse it,but leaving his Tardis so the Doctor co up old easily gain access with a wave of the sonic, the cockpit bomb would have blown the plane apart anyway, etc)
The companions, Bradley Walsh apart, are still wooden
Whittaker is still (for me) just trying to be a female version of David Tennant and still hasn’t brought anything new to the role
The new Master is good, however, he’s still too much like John Simm at his most manic and worst
Timey wimey resolutions to part of the cliffhanger (the same stuff people decried under Moffatt?)
The Master’s facial screen mimicry easily defeated again by (yet another) wave of the sonic
Just seems to reinforce how poor a grasp Chibnall has on the character of the Doctor, and of the show itself.
Better than last series, however, that doesn’t take much!

January 6th, 2020 - 2:25amI have no words for how monumentally bad that was. The plot resolution was fun…when I saw it the first time in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure 31 years ago.
Also, using the video/conversation on the plane was a terrible idea as it just brought to mind “Blink”…one of the greatest episodes ever. This was one of the worst.
It was dreadful casting for the Master. Absolutely no sense of the menace that John Simm and Michelle Gomez brought to the role.

The agent was trained in England before going to France, so yes she would speak English with a French Accent.
The biggest issue with the Paris scenes is Paris was not bombed by anyone in WW2, the Germans did not enter Paris until after France surrendered and it was declared a open city in 1944 and the Allies entered unopposed. Hitler actually ordered Paris destroyed but the German commander refused.
Overall a very good double episode and i suspect that we will see a certain Planet again this season.

January 6th, 2020 - 12:05amWell I loved both parts. I liked bits of series 11 but I was never in a rush to watch them as soon as possible. Series 12 on the other hand I’m desperate to see the next episode as soon as the current one is aired. With the master killing everyone at galifrey and the timeless child and everything you have been told is a lie I’m honestly looking forward to where this goes

January 5th, 2020 - 10:45pmI’ve got to say, I was a bit disappointed with Part 2, not as much action as there was in Part 1. The Doctor’s idea to put a safety measure in the plane for Graham, Ryan & Yaz felt lazy in my opinion. The Master appears to have a much darker personality (I’m going to assume that this version comes before John Simm’s Master & Michelle Gomez’s Missy).
Plus having 2 famous names from history in the same episode at the same time, just seemed like it had been written in at the last minute, just to throw a bit of history in the episode. For both parts however, it was a good twist with a re-introduction to the Master, also the Master’s TARDIS, some good humour from the Doctor & a nod to Gallifrey.
Looking forward to finding out what happened to it after all the Doctors (prior to the current Doctor) put it into the pocket universe.

Or am I wrong, and couldn’t the masters TARDIS have done the translating perfectly fine, she’s also not gone back on her own timeline really as she’s never present originally in the places she rocks up at

January 5th, 2020 - 10:15pmFantastic continuation of the last episode! I’m stunned honestly. That ending was shocking! I could really feel the Doctor’s horror as she has her life essentially turned upside down, ironically just before she must explain herself to her friends! I still think that this is some sort of scheme, probably constructed by the Master!
I know a lot of people aren’t going to like that they’re playing around with the Doctor’s backstory, but I can’t wait to see how this all plays out! Again though, I can’t trust this Master enough yet to believe this isn’t some kind of evil plan haha!

The Master’s TARDIS was there, I think we’re meant to take it that the Master’s one did all the translating. I share the same foreboding as you that we’ll be asked to ignore 56yrs of our experiences of The Doctor’s travelling. So many writers and their work from those years also are going to have everything undone. I know it’s only a show but I actually feel disgusted and betrayed. Born in 1962, discovering the show in 1967, have I really wasted all this time for it to end up like this.

January 5th, 2020 - 9:20pmIt’s funny to think that if the internet had been around in 1976 the deadly assassin’s production team and writer would have been accused of trying to rewrite who continuity. Which of course they were accused of but due the unavailability social media only those in fan clubs complained. Now of course its seen as a classic story and it’s rewriting of the time lords from omnipotent being in war games to squabbling politicos is forgotten.

January 5th, 2020 - 9:18pmHave to say the 2nd part was better than the 1st part. Nice to see some questions answered in this episode. Liked the new master and his old ways. Loved the old tissue compression elminator sound. The doctor/master relationship was good like the doctor/missy relationship.
Just leave a big question – What has the doctor done with the master’s tardis?
The problem I have is the doctor is meant to be the focus of attention but Bradley Walsh himself has more of a screen presence that jodi which can distract the various stories past and future. Shame he was not cast as the doctor. But in all fairness a very good 2nd part episode

I’m not talking about the novels or big finish but the source material the TV show. This is all we know. Omega blew up a star and created a black hole. Rassilon somehow gains control of the black hole locks it below the panopticon of gallifrey and forms time lord society. And that’s it. That is the sum total of info giving in 56 years of who. On TV. It’s entirely acceptable given that rassilon is shown to be a villain in end of time and rumoured to be a villain in five doctors that something happened he hid from time lord society. Besides all history is in flux. And it’s just a TV show. Personally I enjoyed this episode. I thought the doctor/master material was great but I did find the companion sections a bit daft. Overall I enjoyed it though.

January 5th, 2020 - 8:53pmI think it was an ok episode, as we didn’t really get any answers for 40 minutes, leaving us in the dark for 1 hour and 20 minutes, considering episode 1. The last 20 minutes were good though, even if the plan was thwarted fairly quickly. The Master was well used to set up the whole Gallifrey thing.

January 5th, 2020 - 8:47pmPeople in WW2 France speak English without the TARDIS? Doctor has vastly greater psy powers? Doc can now travel back along own timeline to help herself Bill and Ted style? You can break into a TARDIS with just a Sonic? The Master can wipe out Gallifrey? These writers have the skill to play with 50+years of established back story? The BBC is going to have to pay Russel T whatever he wants to come back and retcon this dismal period. Thirteen really is an unlucky number.

Chibnall went back to making it all too talky, full of tiresome dialogue and more concerning, now seemingly rewriting the history of the series!
