January 2nd, 2013 - 11:17amI’ll admit. The first time I heard the theme tune I thought that I heard bits of the classic themes. I thought that it was but now that i’ve listened to it a few more times I was obviously wrong. Although the bassline does sound very similar to the Trial of a Timelord one.

December 31st, 2012 - 8:43pmanyone else think that the titles remind you of series 6 of dr who confidential? i think this might have been inspired by it
McGann is the Doctor
December 31st, 2012 - 3:47pmThat’s not quite true.
It has been made more ominous and haunting like the 60s and 70s theme tune.
And the trip around the galaxy as opposed to a straightforward tunnel was possibley inspired by the Sylvestor McCoy titles which were the first to not go in a straight, linear movement β
McGann is the Doctor
December 31st, 2012 - 3:15pmWas very VERY pleased with the new titles.
No longer is it just a tunnel with afew CGIed names, it’s a trip accross the galaxies with the Doctor’s face appearing, which was done very well, and the sound has been much improved by making it more like the original.
Hope they keep this one and don’t change it into something worse ! β

December 30th, 2012 - 4:37pmDoctor When – Yeah, they just hear what they want to hear. It’s like Clara in ‘Asylum of the Daleks’, believing that she is still human when she knew she’d been turned into a Dalek because the truth was too painful for her.
The new version is simply an updated version of the 2010 theme, pure and simple, but it does have a bit of a ‘Trial of a Time Lord’ theme likeness when Matt and Jenna’s names appear in the new opening titles, but apart from that one classic theme, there’s nothing classic series sounding about this new theme what so ever.
Doctor When
December 30th, 2012 - 1:23pmI think it’s because a majority of the fans want to see something that gets them excited for the 50th Anniversary, like little nods to the past. So, they trick themselves into thinking that it’s definitely there but it’s just not. I’m sure they have big plans for the 50th anniversary anyway otherwise they’re going to lose a lot of support from the fans, which to be fair, are most of the people tuning in every Saturday afternoon.

December 30th, 2012 - 8:14amYeah it is just an updated version of the 2010 theme, I can’t understand why other fan’s are saying that they can hear bits of the old themes in this one.
I think a lot of fan’s need their ears syringing π

Doctor When
December 29th, 2012 - 11:33pmI just want to confirm that the classic theme tunes aren’t used at all in the new sequence. It’s the 2010 theme but when the “ooh eh ooh” bit starts, there is no backing music, it’s just that. It makes it seem more eerie but, yeah, it’s just a slightly modified 2010 theme.

December 29th, 2012 - 12:50pmthat’s what i keep saying! if you listen to the “dum de dumb” part and when the names appear it does sound like the trial of a time lord version. completely agree with you about the doctor who logo and the BBC under it, they should have had that at the beginning of the episode, i also agree that the doctors face should be with his name

December 29th, 2012 - 9:26amHaving heard this a few more times on YouTube, I personally think it’s doesn’t remind me of anything of the past intro’s other then seeing the 11th Doctors face in the titles and yet people seem to say you can hear bits of the old intros in this new one, but I can’t, to me it’s just an updated version of the 2010 theme, nothing more.
But I will say this for the new theme, it did sound a bit like the 1986 ‘Trial of a Time Lord’ version when Matt and Jenna’s names appear.
I guess we all view this new intro differently.
If I was to make any changes, I’d have ‘DOCTOR’ above the word ‘WHO’ like it was in the old days rather then ‘DOCTOR WHO’, and would feature Matt Smiths face with his name below it followed in the same way by Jenna’s name and face, and remove the BBC logo since it kinda ruins it for me.

December 28th, 2012 - 5:55pmunless that was meant to happen, you never know! that happened in the 60s when the second doctors theme changed, the closing titles still retained the original version of the theme. But it still could have been a mistake

December 28th, 2012 - 11:13amThey did indeed, silly sausages π
Hopefully by end of the first 2013 episode they won’t make that mistake twice π
The Cyber Squirrel
December 27th, 2012 - 9:16pmwhen the snowman was broadcast in the closing titles they accidentally played the old 2010-2012 theme!
drjakeyoung
December 27th, 2012 - 4:49pmthe theme sounds a bit like Dominicο»Ώ glynn’s version (with the dumb de dumb)
Hector Sandler
December 27th, 2012 - 2:08amIt was great. I see the Face return since Sly McCoy era. Matt SMith face in the beginning title. I Chris & David Tennart didn’t get that. I glad things came back.
John Smith
December 27th, 2012 - 1:57amThat’s because some of the latest fan intros are so good that they look up to Millennium FX standards. The first time I saw the new titles I thought it was fan made too. I really like them though.

December 26th, 2012 - 3:44pmyea, defiantly a nod to the classic series
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
December 26th, 2012 - 12:01pmliked the theme and sequence, and the font matched t. it was really red though…

December 26th, 2012 - 8:16amNot bad. Not the best intro I have ever seen, and the new theme don’t seem that much different to the previous one, just sounds updated.
Trouble for me is, this new one looks like something a fan would produce and upload onto YouTube, like the Vortex right at the end of the intro before the Tardis doors open, looks similar to Vortex’s made for fan-made intros.
doctorwhoone
December 26th, 2012 - 8:14amThe only difference about how the doors of the Tardis open at the end of the new intro is that they open outward rather then inward.

December 26th, 2012 - 6:54amBy the way, definitely made my Christmas…

December 26th, 2012 - 6:38amI F@$KIN’ LOVE IT! It’s amazing, the mysterious and almost scary music and they brought the faces back! I love the fact that if you listen closely you can hear all the previous theme tunes. I think that Matt Smith’s face should’ve gotten a bit more of a flashy-ness to it instead of a 1 second blurry thingy. I really, really like it. I hope that they do a slightly different re-vamp of the theme as it moves through the years.
The Cyber Squirrel
December 25th, 2012 - 10:13pmIf you listen really closely you can here a bit of each of the theme tunes

December 25th, 2012 - 9:00pmlike the way at the end of the titles the tardis fly’s towards the screen and opens the same way as the classic Dr who DVD range intro does.BTW love the theme and titles, so much better and epic than the other ones

December 25th, 2012 - 8:34pmAmazing
Much better than the normal 1

December 25th, 2012 - 6:44pmlove it
CYBERMEN97000
December 25th, 2012 - 6:43pmI think the titles give the show a bit more realism, as instead of a vortex they’ve gone down the route of the TARDIS flying through nebulas and star systems which look similar to those seen by the Hubble telescope and they have reverted back to the face of the doctor being shown in this case matt smith but not so conspicuous ,giving it that touch of the classic series within modernisation of the show ,so as you can tell its a winner with me π

December 25th, 2012 - 6:30pmLoved it all, every bit of it. This is the first Who Chrstmas Special that I thoroughly enjoyed that really felt like a real Who episode and not something called Who just to play on Christmas! Excellent excellent excellent, and love Clara and her mystery, and hope the gang will all be together again soon!

December 25th, 2012 - 6:18pmthe new tardis looks good I love it the titles are good but really confusing but i think they will make sence when Doctor who returns again.
