What did You Think of The Pyramid At The End Of The World?
Now that the seventh episode of series 10 has been aired what did you think? Was it everything you had hoped for or not what you expected.
A 5,000 year-old Pyramid stands at the centre of a war zone, where the Chinese, Russian and American armies are about to clash. There are many problems with that, but the one that intrigues the Doctor is this: there wasn’t a pyramid there yesterday.
The Doctor, Bill and Nardole face an alien invasion unlike any other, and before conquest can begin, these aliens need the consent of the human race…

May 28th, 2017 - 7:22pmGood 2nd part to the Monks trilogy.
Doctor Stu
May 28th, 2017 - 4:49pmI feel like the research lab should have gone full iPhone on the Doctor and made him wait an hour after too many failed attempts at opening the door. Would have screwed his plan up a tiny bit.
Dalekparadigm2
May 28th, 2017 - 12:02pmFelt like filler a bit. It was good but it could’ve ultimately been done in 5 minutes. It does set up a load of stuff though so perhaps it’s the saving grace of the episode…
Tim M
May 28th, 2017 - 8:13pmCompletely agree. This 3 parter could have been a 2 parter. By simply losing a chunk of ‘computer land’, and much of ‘The Pyramid at the End of the World’.
Random Critic
May 28th, 2017 - 11:41amIf I ever have to sit through an episode as boring as this again, it’ll be too soon.
It seems there was quite the budget spent on it. But it guaranteed nothing in this talkathon.
Wow! It’s the Secretary-General of the UN, and here he’s not just a wind bag that always “condemns” this, that or the other in the “strongest possible terms”. I liked the character. But why is it just him representing the UN?
Since when were the grunts put in charge? Not a single phone call to any of the world leaders, just some no-name military peeps deciding things on their own.
To add to the computer based nonsense of last week, the Doctor is now touching TFT screens to put all the top secret intelligence documents in the world online, probably including all those secrets that only exist on paper. If he can do all that, why get Nardole to waste his time hacking cameras?
I’m pretty certain that real labs, of the boring type that I almost fell asleep to while watching, would have rigorous safety procedures and more personnel. But then who needs all of that when you can rely on a Fisher-Price combination lock for a cliff-hanger.
Yay! The Brotherhood of Nod are back again next week; they always did have the cool weapons compared to those GDI losers.
Doctor no more
May 28th, 2017 - 1:57pmWell said totally agree

May 28th, 2017 - 2:36pmI actually gave this episode 6.5 earlier, after reading this I feel my eyes have been opened a little! I haven’t been as vocal this season as I usually would be, maybe it’s because fans like Random Critic are saying elements of what I would.
After a rewatch I’m downgrading it to a 4.5. I think the fact that Clara is no longer in it has calmed me somewhat this season, but as I stated earlier I di expect better?
The doomsday clock was at 11:57 to start with, if the show does not improve massively after Moffat goes we could see this show at 11:57 in the very near future (I do not expect any monumental improvements with Moffat around) despite the BBC statement that it will run for at least 5 more seasons! All good things come to an end you might say? Well the reality is it’s not that good anymore (better than last seasons though)
Pats86
May 28th, 2017 - 2:37pmDo expect better
The Temporal Jelly Baby
May 28th, 2017 - 3:44pmAdmittedly, the plot was a little flawed but I don’t mind plot flaws as much as some other people do. I can look past them if I still find the episode enjoyable and they’re not *too* obvious.

May 30th, 2017 - 7:22amPats86 you should stick to your origanal rating and stop changing it due to comments on comments here.
I’m giving this 3 parter 7/10 so far.

May 28th, 2017 - 11:34amBill made a reference to Donald Trump in this episode, where last episode the president in the simulation looked nothing like trump
The Temporal Jelly Baby
May 28th, 2017 - 3:47pmMaybe the one in the simulation is another ‘orange’ looking president that Bill wouldn’t vote for?
OK, it was clearly a Trump reference but it’s a plausible excuse for the discrepancy. 🙂
The Doctor Will See You Now
May 28th, 2017 - 11:21amIs it possible that the monks are actually the Mondasian Cybermen, without their suits on?
The Outcast
May 28th, 2017 - 1:18pmNo, its not. Nothing about the two match. only one thing makes people believe that and that is because of the way the mouths move, which is the same as the Mondasian Cybermen.
Doctor no more
May 28th, 2017 - 10:26amMusic conducted and orchestrated by Alastair king and mixed by jake Jackson. I knew i was right! Please bring back Murray gold as he is very missed as the music has no depth any more. He is to Dr Who what John Barry is to James bond, nobody does it better. Any body know why he left???

May 28th, 2017 - 12:05pmHe hasn’t? His credit is two ‘slides’ on 🙂

May 28th, 2017 - 1:53pmOnly credit will be for theme tune. !!

May 28th, 2017 - 9:31amNot too bad, better than last weeks episode. I quite like a slow burner that gives you an opportunity to think things through as it goes along as this episode did.
I understand why we had Bill’s personal life in last week, after I had expressed my dislike of the soap opera elements of the Doctors companions! it made more sense this week.
I’ll give it 6.5, I still expect and want better.
CityHunter
May 28th, 2017 - 2:25amLast week was great. This week felt like waiting for something interesting to happen. But when it did, it wasn’t that interesting.
Doctor Stu
May 28th, 2017 - 12:13amThis episode was good but again it’s still not a whole episode I think I would rewatch time and time again like with series 1-4 where I could watch them all on a continuous loop. For me this series has only been better than last series because of little bits here and there in each episode that are good like the last 10 minutes of this episode and bits and pieces from oxygen and thin ice. I think the only episodes the past couple of series that I’ve rewatched the whole way through are into the Dalek, Mummy on the Orient Express and the witches familiar which bothers me because during series 1-6 and series 7 part 1 I was a walking Doctor Who fact file but now I’ve lost all interest in keeping up with the extreme details as there have been some abysmal episodes and the passion isn’t as strong anymore. Doctor Who is slowly getting better but for me this series isn’t exactly anything special when compared to the perfection of series 4 and the realistic character relationships and acting that just isn’t present anymore
The Living Shadow
May 27th, 2017 - 10:27pmWhat a crazy episode! I didn’t like it while I was watching, but then in the last 10 minutes something must’ve clicked (maybe I didn’t fully understand what was happening until that point) as I loved it from then on and now when I look back I think it was an incredible episode overall!
Doctor Stu
May 27th, 2017 - 11:35pmI’m exactly the same all through the episode I was like ‘urgh it’s going so slow what’s happening’ and then suddenly I was on the edge of my seat
Dr RevWho
May 27th, 2017 - 10:22pm…well…didn’t think I’d be saying this…but ‘Mummy on the Orient Express’ might no longer be my favourite 12th Doctor episode.
Seriously, I thought that was absolutely awesome. The stakes and tensions were high, I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing, it managed to be clever without being too full of itself, and I simply cannot wait for next week’s episode!
My scores so far:
‘The Pilot’ – 7/10
‘Smile’ – 8/10
‘Thin Ice’ – 8/10
‘Knock Knock’ – 7/10
‘Oxygen’ – 9/10
‘Extremis’ – 5/10
‘The Pyramid at the End of the World’ – 10/10
This series is definitely shaping up to be one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ series in a long time.
The Surgeon
May 27th, 2017 - 9:59pmPhenomenal. Got some real Pertwee vibes from it. Love to know how much was Harness and Moffat and how they divided it. Needed more Pyramid and could have done with UNIT but absolutely superb
r1ch1e
May 27th, 2017 - 10:16pmI agree. UNIT would have been a perfect inclusion to this episode but none the less it was a triumph of an episode. This series is going from strength to strength. Dare I say it could be the best one ever???
Anonymous
May 27th, 2017 - 10:19pmGlad to see I’m not the only one who thought it had a 1970’s vibe to it! IMO this is the first episode of the entire 12th. Doctor’s run that actually felt like Doctor Who for once.
Jordan Scott
May 27th, 2017 - 9:46pmDefinitely an improvement upon last week’s episode. Just as a side note, it seems like they can’t be bothered to add lights to the TARDIS anymore when its materialising – it just looks like it did in the classic series.
The Living Shadow
May 27th, 2017 - 10:34pmI quite like that, it seems more humble, which I think is a more true to the Doctor’s character, rather than a big flashy entrance
Jordan Scott
May 27th, 2017 - 11:09pmThat’s just made me realise how the TARDIS seems to almost land according to the Doctor’s mood and how high the stakes are, in Journey’s End for example it’s like “woah”, but here it’s just like “meh” 🙂
The Dalek Whovian
May 27th, 2017 - 9:37pmThis is why I think Doctor Who episodes should be longer like in the classic series. Moffat shows he has lots of ideas and details but I feel like a longer episode duration would do his ideas more justice.
Doctor no more
May 27th, 2017 - 9:21pmMust having been watching a different episode to most people. Thought it was very slow and boring and never got going. Next week looks hopefully better but I won’t get my hopes up just yet. Next week’s regeneration will be a red herring as well.

May 27th, 2017 - 9:03pmLoved it! Very different to usual!! Next week looks even better!!

May 27th, 2017 - 8:47pmActually a very good storyline, quite thought provoking and gives a sort of terrifying idea of what could potentially happen in the real world in the future maybe. But seriously, what WOULD YOU do? Consent to help and get your free will taken away from you OR refuse the help and face the end of existence?

May 27th, 2017 - 8:50pmWhos to say it isn’t happening right now?
The Temporal Jelly Baby
May 27th, 2017 - 8:51pmThat’s part of what makes it a good episode – I’m not actually totally sure. I’d like to say I’d choose freewill but in the heat of the moment, would I?
This episode has challenged me to question my own ideals and I love that!

May 27th, 2017 - 8:53pmAnonymous, the monks stop any bad events from occuring, so if it was happening right now, last monday night wouldnt have seen a bomb go off in manchester.

May 27th, 2017 - 8:54pmSomething that makes you think deeply with situations that are actually happening now at this moment in time, Doctor Who with relation to Real life

May 27th, 2017 - 8:46pmCurrently
1) The Pyramid at the End of the World
2) Oxygen
3) The Pilot
4) Knock Knock
5) Extremis
6) Smile
7) Thin Ice
Think Episode 8 could top even Episode 7- I LOVE Toby Whithouse’s writing, and the story looks like the best yet!

May 27th, 2017 - 8:45pmThat was quite simply exquisite! I’m totally in love with Erica! I think this may be my favorites episode in a number of years!
I needed we reserve next weeks episode NOW!!!

May 27th, 2017 - 8:45pmThis episode was better than last week. The ending was good. Bill has made a great mistake. Here’s my updated ranks for the series.

Thin Ice 7/10
Knock Knock 5/10
Extremis 3/10
The pyramid at the end of the world 5/10

May 27th, 2017 - 8:44pmHmmmmm…My least favourite episode of this series so far. It wasn’t bad as such, but was a very slow burner. At times I was getting bored watching, I could tell because I wanted to look at my mobile phone whilst watching it. I found it difficult to get gripped by the story until about halfway in. I’m afraid it’s only an okay story in my view 5/10. I don’t even feel gripped by the next time trailer. I’m bored of this mid series story already. It already feels like a story stretched out too much.
The Temporal Jelly Baby
May 27th, 2017 - 8:47pmOh, that’s a shame. I’m loving this 3-part story so far and I hope I shall continue to do so next week. I had looked at an advance review which said that it’s slow in the middle so I was prepared for that and actually found it quite tense. Each to their own though. 🙂
Tim M
May 27th, 2017 - 9:09pmI can already tell this 3 parter could easily have been told over 2 episodes. The scenes set in ‘computer land’ last week, could have been heavily reduced, and some of the first half of this episode could have been condensed. The pace of the whole thing would have been massively improved. Not connected but part of the episode nonetheless, the scene where the Doctor is about to tell Bill he’s blind, but doesn’t quite say it, is accompanied by some ridiculously over dramatic music. It was a quiet little scene that actually didn’t need any music, and didn’t sit comfortably with what was happening at that juncture on screen.
Weeping Angel
May 27th, 2017 - 8:43pmI liked this episode. I think the doctor might regenerate next episode because he is in the same place in the next time trailer as where he was regenerating in the season 10 trailer. Also the next time trailer shows bill killing the doctor. That would be a twist.

May 27th, 2017 - 8:53pmProbably a red herring, surely the BBC couldn’t be stupid enough to give away such a large spoiler in a next time.

May 27th, 2017 - 8:42pmA great episode! Tense throughout and I’m loving the Monks. Good music from Murray Gold too (as usual).
Doctor909
May 27th, 2017 - 8:41pmI thought that was great. For an episode where it wasn’t running down corridors from the monsters I thought it was amazing and has probably improved my opinion on last week. The ending I felt only became predictable as it happened and basically made you yell at Bill for making her decision.
