Well Thor has been recast as female, therefore Thora would be more appropriate. But they made the Master female, and I felt Michelle Gomez made a great success of it. So if cast right it could work.

Yeah season 26 is one of favourite’s too….it’s criminal it ended when it did…just when they got it right. It would be nice to see a return to a diminutive, manipulative, mysterious doctor again…Tom hollander would be perfect!

I really don’t think the next Doctor should be a woman in my opinion, I just don’t see it working in my eyes. My Girlfriend and mother who watch Doctor Who also agree with me and think it should stay the same as a male part. Look what happened with Ghostbusters with the all female cast, ended up being the most disliked movie trailer ever on YouTube and made a loss of $70 Million with the potential sequel cancelled because of it. As the old saying goes, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I have a better idea…why not just go and make a brand new sci-fi show all about a mysterious time traveling lady called Fred…

I honestly think a female should be cast as the Doctor, after this run of stories/series (since 2005) comes to an end. What I mean is, if this current run of Doctor Who comes to an end in a few years, and several years later it is brought back and rebooted, then start with a female Doctor. Start it like ‘Rose’ and begin without a regeneration. Then as the series progresses, we (the audience) question if this is the Doctor, and redefines ‘who’. Creates a mystery. Then if the audience reaction to a female Doctor is lukewarm and not appealing (although I wouldn’t know why not if cast right), then they could say she’s a fraud and isn’t the Doctor. But someone who has managed to steal and use the Tardis. The real ‘male’ Doctor is imprisoned and is played by……….

Well, I remember a RadioTimes article which had a picture of Peter and Pearl together a day or so before the announcement. But I suppose the other websites were also right, Rakhee Thakrar did become a companion in the 8th Doctor audios.

The latter McCoy era (e.g most of Season 25 and all of 26) are my favourite years of the show and I hope the next Doctor will take some traits from the 7th.

Well I terrified it going to be a woman although I got a few actor to favour for role. & also terrified that it will be his last regeneration. He use up all of his life since after Tom Baker years in short terms. He should be this regeneration for several years. I always loved Dr.Who I grew in the Late Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker era. Another thing is Tom Baker still alive some tell me

Absolutely…except for McCoy’s wonderful last few seasons..the writing in 80s who was pretty atrocious most of the time bordering on pantomime with poor Colin being made a scapegoat. New who has gone the same direction under Moffat. A few of my friends who are sci-fi fans but not big who fans find it a hard watch…they find it silly, badly written with poor characterization. First and foremost Chibnall needs to write good sci-fi drama that will appeal to everyone including my few friends…Hardcore who fans will always watch…good, bad or indifferent..

A female Doctor wouldn’t automatically improve ratings. The 6th Doctor’s era failed because of the shows quality, not Colin Baker’s casting. 6 himself is a great Doctor Who landed terrible stories…just like 12.

Some people think the ratings plumetted when capaldi was cast after the younger more good looking Matt and David but that’s probably nonsense

In all seriousness i think this could be the most important new doctor choice since the reboot. With a new Show Runner, a new Doctor, new companion(s) ratings could plummett if they get it wrong.
For those who preach doom & gloom about a Female Doctor remember there was no Female Doctor in the 80s when the shows popularity plummeted leading to cancellation.
I think we are at a similar Crossroads to when Colin Baker took over and we know how that worked out.

the only `figure of a person` in the trailer was a Woman….statue of liberty, holding a flaming 13. personally, i though saturday is Dr who day, and the ladies finals, would have been mmore appropriate. with the ; mens final, its got to be a male. i have no idea if this isnt just a big public place with big ratings, and lots watching.

i was told the sahara was shown, so its get to be sarah someone. Ha ! 😉

Male ; Chitewll Ejifor; stunning actor though lots of stage work seems his thing of late.
Mathew Baynton ; horrible histories, the two mans.

Female; Rakie Ayoloa ; superb Actor, who did a fantastic showstopper in the recent CH4 series no offence, and was the cabin steward in Midnight.

like other kris marshall dose not excite, but he is a safe choice , and the two women bandied about, Jodie, Sophie, dont have much of a range .

There are plenty of Actesses and ACTORS out there that would cause a crash in ratings of the show, just as there are ACTRESSES & Actors out there who could send the ratings up.
Getting the Doctor right is going to be difficult so why cut out 50% of the population?
The next Doctor could be a little green man from Mars for all i care, as long as they get good writers, good Stories and good diresction it can work.

I think. Kris Marshall as companion with a female doctor, this would be something new and the casual audience would be more intrigued to watch which is what the BBC wants.

Although I agree that I want more Bill, her character has been messed with SO much, having been killed, living with the master for a decade and being upgraded and eventually killed again. I know the circumstances with Heather mean she can be totally revived to her original human form, I just think- where can she go from here.

Women, POC, and gay people are under represented, more of these characters is a push for diversity and representation and so is a positive thing. That’s why it’s good that POC are cast in typically white roles, same for women and gay people. When the opposite happens, female character made male, gay made straight and POC made white this is a push against equality and representation because straight, white males are not or haven’t ever been under represented. So in some cases it can be extreme but the “PC brigade” aren’t evil people trying to pollute your programs they’re just pushing for diversity and more representation. Please don’t delete this I’m not trying to be confrontational I’m just trying to put my opinion forward.

Also I want Ben Whishaw to play the Doctor because he’d be the first openly gay actor playing the Doctor ‘more “PC” stuff’ XD
