Doctor Who – Filming the New Series
Doctor Who – Filming the New Series
From the official site
It’s almost time. New monsters are becoming real, old friends are returning to Cardiff and somewhere in Wales, a tweed jacket is being taken from its hanger and lovingly dusted off. It can only mean one thing… Filming on the new series of Doctor Who begins on 20 February, 2012!
The first director to shout ‘action’ will be the award-winning Saul Metzstein whose previous credits include Micro Men (starring Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman), the critically acclaimed Late Night Shopping and BBC Wales’ Upstairs Downstairs. For the very first time, Doctor Who will be produced at the new BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, which officially open in March. The production team includes Steven Moffat (Executive Producer and lead writer), Caroline Skinner (Executive Producer) and Marcus Wilson (Producer).
The new series will see Matt Smith return as the Doctor in what Steven Moffat has described as ‘the biggest, the best and the most ambitious season we’ve ever made’. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) are both back, for what will be their final voyage with the Doctor – a thrilling rollercoaster ride which will culminate in a heart-breaking farewell to the Ponds. But there will be more shocks, surprises and adventures to come when the Doctor meets a new friend, in the last very place he could ever have expected…
And yes! We’ve been promised the return of some old monsters, but some new and terrifying ones lie in wait for the Doctor…
We’ll be bringing you all the news about the incredible new series as it emerges, so stay tuned for some big surprises!
Doctor Who Writers Confirmed
It’s also been confirmed that Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall are writing episodes for the new series of Doctor Who. Both writers have previously penned stories full of pace, horror and humour so it’s great news they’re back on board for what will be an amazing new season!
Toby hinted at his involvement in an interview last year. When asked if he would be writing future adventures, he replied, ‘Well, let’s just say… emails have been exchanged. Ideas have been discussed. Tea has been drunk.’ Well-known for writing and creating BBC Wales’ award-winning Being Human, he has previously contributed to three series of Doctor Who, writing School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice and The God Complex.
Chris Chibnall’s credits include Life on Mars, Torchwood and United, and for Doctor Who, 42 and The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood which saw the return of the Silurians.

McGann is the Doctor.
February 18th, 2012 - 12:31pmIt’s REALLY such a shame Dr WHo Confidential has been taken off the air, nothing can justify this. Wouldn’t it be such a pleasant surprise if they arranged for it to be back in the next series ? The ycould easily have it on a different channel ! ❗
The biggest most ambitious ? ❓ How ! Sersi 6 was easily the BIGGEST, MOST AMBITIOUS you could posssibly get ! I thought they wanted to make this next Series different . 🙁 I lvoed Series 6 but there has to be a change !

doctorwhofan27
February 20th, 2012 - 3:25pmI agree with Zygons and I agree with Vashta Nerada if they go with what they were in silence in the library and forest of the dead. But if they go with the adventure games Vashta Nerada, no.

doctor daddy cool 67
February 14th, 2012 - 3:54pmI am kind of hoping the Zygons and maybe the Ice Warriors will be back, so long as they update them a bit just like they did with the Silurians. Also Captain Jack ( as I personally think that Torchwood is finished ). A new companion is always quite exciting to see in the Tardis. What old enemies do the rest of you want to see return???
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 14th, 2012 - 4:22pmSea Devils!!! Would also like to see the Rutans return. It was great to see them in The Gunpowder Plot though! 🙂

I’m fat, I’m old, I’m blue!
February 13th, 2012 - 5:47pmEven though Rose was a great character, I think it would be wrong to bring her back, she had her time, and it wouldn’t feel the same as it did with Tennant or Eccleson
GreenAnchorRedWaterfall
February 14th, 2012 - 8:38pmAlso she’s stuck in another universe and she has a clone Doctor already, so she’ll be alright.

February 11th, 2012 - 12:37pmWhen is the new series due to start? In the comments above it says late 2012 but past doctor who’s have started around easter time? Will we have to wait until summer onwards!?!? 🙁
booboo
February 11th, 2012 - 4:02pmthey are only just starting to film so we wont see it until Autumn this year
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 11th, 2012 - 5:26pmIt’s most likely becuase of stuff like the Olympics and the Queens diamond jubilee which could affect Doctor Who if it aired in Spring/Summer so it’s been put back to Autumn which is perfect really as we’ll get to watch it on darker nights! 🙂
McGann is the Doctor.
February 12th, 2012 - 11:54amYes !
I think it’s great they aren’t airing it soo soon after Series 6, it’s right to , you know, take the time.
Quality is important, and the air time in Autumn will surely be for the best. 😉
Commander Strax
February 13th, 2012 - 12:53pmthe moff said that he did it because erveryone would be having a babaque and\or playing in the sun and that would affect the viewing figures.
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 13th, 2012 - 2:53pmHe did say that!
Anonymous
February 13th, 2012 - 4:46pmDoctor Who starting in the Spring has only really been a recent thing, originally it was always Autumn/Winter.
Will
February 11th, 2012 - 11:28amYeah they say it will be the biggest and best series every year but my expectations are extremely low after series 6. What with all the budget cuts
Commander Strax
February 11th, 2012 - 10:41amcaptian jack should return!! hes awsome!!

February 11th, 2012 - 12:24ami’m excited, bring it on!will be very exciting, wonder if the master will be in it?

February 12th, 2012 - 11:55amJust watch it and don’t expect any returning villains.
I expected Omega to be in the Doctor’s Wife, but instead it was some random spirit called House. ❓ DISSAPOINTED I was.

February 13th, 2012 - 12:55pmi was also extremely dissopinted because i got really exited when i founght it was omega

cyberman97
February 10th, 2012 - 9:58pmhmm i will miss the ponds dont get me wrong but i think its time for someone or something else but i hope the doctor vists them like craig thats if they dont kill them off or something i think i would like an alien from a destroyed planet or the last of there kind so they have something to relate to the doctor also it eradicates all of the awkwardness
sapk
February 10th, 2012 - 3:52pmIf anyone knows what some or all of the episodes are please let me know
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 10th, 2012 - 5:45pmAll we know so far is that series 7 will begin late 2012, Steven Moffat is writing about 5 episodes, John Fay (From Torchwood) is writing one, Mark Gatiss is writing one, Chris Chibnall is writing one (which contains the biggest set ever) and Toby Whithouse is also writing one.
GreenAnchorRedWaterfall
February 16th, 2012 - 12:07pmDo you think that the one written by John Fay will be a bit dark?
sapk
February 10th, 2012 - 3:48pmIs mark gatiss writing another episode?
It would be brilliant if he is.
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 10th, 2012 - 5:43pmYes and the episode contains the words ‘meat’, ‘klaxon’ and ‘vienna’.
Anonymous
February 10th, 2012 - 10:01pmHe also used those words in his Sherlock episode, so I’d be cautious about it.
I Love Cybermen
February 10th, 2012 - 12:56pmI wonder if the krynoids will ever return (I hope so)…Also, I BET Sophia Myles is gonna be the assistant. And, if so, I’m VERY VERY excited.

February 10th, 2012 - 3:49pmI hope she is the new assistant.
she’d be brilliant

February 10th, 2012 - 7:53amWell I just the filming but it will be heart braking a bit.
Justininferno
February 9th, 2012 - 6:55pmI hope this series is a lot better than we have been getting from Moffat so far.
McGann is the Doctor.
February 10th, 2012 - 9:19amI doubt it will be as enjoyable as Series 6, he intends for it to be different, in several major ways. Lets Kill Hitler, Closing Time and Wedding of Riversong were all very strong, very memorable stories. 🙂
Don’t like them ? Go watch your David Tennant years, much less memorable, they were back when Dr Who wasn’t realised for it’s full potential in the 21st Century, it was nothing more than an entertaining TV series. ❗
alex
February 14th, 2012 - 9:56pmI agree with you, moffat has turnned this Tv show to soppy, slow-going, boring (yawn), long story-lined show.
I do enjoy those sort of programs, but dr who never was one of them intill now, you cant just change the genre when the 50th anversery is comming up, at this rate dr who will be going where confidential went – IN THE BIN!!!
alex
February 14th, 2012 - 9:58pmmcGann is the Doctor –
A entertainining tv series is what most people want.
GreenAnchorRedWaterfall
February 16th, 2012 - 12:10pmalex
Doctor Who will never be regarded as a programme that’s rubbish and just going to go in the bin! Anyway, if that were to happen another channel will just take it over.
alex
February 17th, 2012 - 11:51pmyes, true but just think moffat has turned it into a diffrent show, not the good old days where jelly babies where offerd on a round the clock basis lol .
GreenAnchorRedWaterfall
February 18th, 2012 - 11:11amI think that the Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat years have made the show better. I don’t like the Christmas Specials anymore because Steven Moffat has turned them into this gentle thing which I don’t like. So I partly agree with you.
timelordinabox
February 9th, 2012 - 4:56pmI live just outside of Cardiff so on the 13th Feb I will go down outside the studio and stay out there for abit to see if I can find any cast/crew then on the 20th onwards I will be in Cardiff all the time! cant wait!
coolberts
February 9th, 2012 - 4:40pmi think that the ponds will be back for say the first 2 episodes and the they’ll make them a huge opening story like they did in sereis 6 to say goodbye, and then the new companion will come in episode 3 !!! or either if the series is split in half then the ponds might be back for half of the season but i think thats dragging there story on for a bit to long!
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 9th, 2012 - 5:42pmApparently Toby Whithouse’s story is episode 3 yet that is one of the last to feature the Ponds. They will most likely leave around episodes 5-7 which will be the perfect time for them to leave as we’ll pretty much have half and half of the Ponds and the new companion.
GreenAnchorRedWaterfall
February 14th, 2012 - 8:46pmI think that Amy will leave the TARDIS (With a final adventure) and Rory will leave too. Maybe, or one of them will die or break up or something along those lines.
Bow tie of Doom (Mood fit woo eb)
February 9th, 2012 - 2:53pmReally excited for the new series. Glad to hear Toby Whithouse is returning as a writer as well. Hopefully we’ll be hearing a few more small details about the Doctors new companion soon! I can’t wait!! 😀
Andrew Hall
February 9th, 2012 - 1:18pmShould have just finished with the Ponds last season. Its a bit overkill now, should just start with a new companion.
The 13th Doctor
February 9th, 2012 - 1:12pmThe excitement
