July 16th, 2017 - 9:04pmHad this decision been taken in the eighties it would have been better received, a whole set of regenerations and never once female? According to Moffat gender is fluid on Gallifrey? Well I watched since the early 70s and it was never ever mentioned until 3 years or so ago in “The Doctors Wife”
Strange that isn’t it Moffat?

July 16th, 2017 - 9:02pmI can accept the Doctor has changed and will be female. But if they change the Tardis or Theme tune, it may as well be a different series completely.

July 16th, 2017 - 9:01pmHmm – it would be interesting if the 13th Doctor teamed up with Susan, who was now male! ‘Oh, Grandmother’!!!
The Moment
July 16th, 2017 - 8:59pmA great casting! People will disagree, but why can’t the Doctor be female. And to attract someone as talented as Jodie Whittaker is amazing. I cannot wait for Series 11. Doctor Who is in safe hands. Also the reveal and other trailer does not feature the current DW logo, does that mean a change in logo for series 11?

July 16th, 2017 - 8:58pmThey should have a gay male companion because people say they’re sick of the Doctor – companion romance
The Moffat Paradox
July 16th, 2017 - 8:58pmPerfectly saw the possibility of it coming (Moffat left enough clues with in universe tinkering) but HOPED for the central character they wouldn’finally ACTUALLY do it.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:56pmNot watching doctor who new series anymore RIP doctor who 1963-2010

July 16th, 2017 - 8:53pmRORY DOCTOR RIVER POND, are you the bloke from The Vicar Of Dibbly?

July 16th, 2017 - 8:46pmDreeves you are correct about Terry Nation, that is a mistake on my part, although he certainly was involved with the series early on. I do not dislike Jodie Whittaker, she is a good actress, I just do not buy into the idea that the Doctor after so many years suddenly regenerates into a woman, it doesn’t make sense. For my part, a person growing up watching since the 60’s, I cannot see the Doctor as a woman, not now, not ever. But you and R1ch1e are entitled to your opinions

July 16th, 2017 - 8:45pmthere is an initial, and in all honesty expected backlash (the youtube thumbs down are massive compared to the Capaldi and Smith reveals), but i suspect many will watch and it very much depends on what happens on screen from then onwards.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:44pmNo but her dad was advanced in the way of the force! And could wipe out the whole Time Lord race if he wanted to. And we wouldn’t be having this conversation then
Disappointed
July 16th, 2017 - 8:41pmDoesn’t anyone remember, we have Time Lord’s and Times Lady’s. If the BBC wanted to increase marked appeal incorporate a Time Lady into the series, or a spin off. After all Romana could be brought back as she was in an alternate universe. A strong, intelligent character just waiting to be developed.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:41pmThe Doctor was originally written for a man and has been up until today?
Doctor Stu
July 16th, 2017 - 8:41pmThe Doctor has been a man for nearly 900 episodes can we please at least give a female Doctor a chance for the next 13 episodes and then decide if you hate her from there
pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 8:38pmDepends if she is still female or not.
Exterminator
July 16th, 2017 - 8:37pmSomebody above in the comments has likened it to the flop ghostbusters reboot.
Exterminator
July 16th, 2017 - 8:35pmAgreed.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:34pmMoffat is to blame, he is responsible for the split in the fan base!
Doctorsmith12
July 16th, 2017 - 8:33pmwe might get a MALE companion??
P.S: its good to return to this page after nearly 3 years

July 16th, 2017 - 8:32pmUsing my maths I have calculated that the bbc might have just lost about half their viewers(this is using poll results above ) now how do you feel . I’m sorry but a female doctor is absurd how come it’s only been in the last 2-3 years that the idea of switching genders through regeneration has come about there has been no problem with the doctor being a man in the past so why is there now why does he have to switch genders this is a disgrace
#goodbye doctor who

July 16th, 2017 - 8:29pmThey sadly aren’t the only one.
GIVE HER A CHANCE EVERYONE WE SAW HER FOR 10 SECONDS YOU CAN’T JUDGE HER OFF OF THAT ALONE!!!
The Moffat Paradox
July 16th, 2017 - 8:29pmWhy can no one just revive a show/take it over, not upset too many premise applecarts, not peddle too many implicit political biases/agendas , take advantage of the best modern sets/effects affordable for TV now and just make great dramatic stories that knock our socks off?

July 16th, 2017 - 8:27pmamen

July 16th, 2017 - 8:24pmI’ll reserve judgement. She might be brilliant, she might be rubbish, but given that she’s a good actress, it might be the scripts and not her that lets the 13th Doctor. She may be so good that she might carry any poor episodes. No way of knowing yet.
The Temporal Jelly Baby
July 16th, 2017 - 8:23pmDifference is, Princess Leia isn’t from an advanced alien race that can change all the cells in their body.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:20pmexcellent
“This is the lady of The Tardis Speaking”
Borg
July 16th, 2017 - 8:18pm1) This is a horrible decision I don’t see a 14th Doctor in the future.
2) I will create a fanfic series about what would have happened if Peter had a good regeneration. And not gone down the toilet.
3) Moffat has had some good writing. Chibnall has not.

July 16th, 2017 - 8:16pmWhen there was talk of a woman doctor in the 80s Patricia Routledge was always my choice!!!
