July 16th, 2017 - 5:09pmDon’t really know this actress, so will wait and see. We all knew it would happen and I can’t believe people who say they won’t watch now because the Doctor’s now a woman! Reminds me of the Craig’s-Not-Bond brigadeโฆoh how wrong you were.
Look forward to the Christmas Special and series 11, just hope the new show runner brings something good to the table.
Don’t think my son will be too happy about it, but I’m sure he won’t give up on the Doctor!
The Moffatt Paradox
July 19th, 2017 - 1:13amTheta was NO obvious gender issue with Craig so the credibility leap from the other actors was nothing like as pronounced.

July 16th, 2017 - 5:08pmBooboo i think its better if you disable the comments on here because there getting out of hand
booboo
July 16th, 2017 - 5:09pmit is everywhere though, do you not look at twitter and facebook?
Weeping Angel
July 16th, 2017 - 5:13pmEveryone should be allowed to say their opinion, it is up to everyone to make their comments appropriate, if they can’t, that is their own fault.
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 5:54pmThis was always going to happen, it was inevitable.

July 17th, 2017 - 6:58amYeah i guess youre right, it does seem bad everywhere else aswell and just so you know no i dont use facebook or twitter lol
booboo
July 17th, 2017 - 7:20amthe official page page is horrendous
its doesn’t surprise me, i really hope they know what they are doing
Can we just have all those millions who tell “dinosaurs” to embrace change to actually watch the show and buy the merchandise.
mark
July 16th, 2017 - 5:08pmI am not happy,i feel this is a bad move. i am sickened at the thought
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 5:01pmWell my wife and daughter have just said I will have to watch Doctor Who on my own from now on!
I am not happy at all with the gender change but I will watch and see how it pans out, as a long time fan I feel sadness that we have to have this change forced upon us fans, because as you can see it has split us and caused upset that did not ever have to happen.
Some are saying those who stop watching will not be missed, well you couldn’t be more wrong because this could see it cancelled again and I remember only too well those dark days.
Jodie is rather nice on the eye so perhaps it’s not all doom and gloom. I just can’t see it working? But we will see.
Tom
July 16th, 2017 - 5:01pmTo be honest as a traditional whovian and fan of the tv series for all of my life. I think the choice to cast a female actor in this iconic role is a courageous challenge to what has been seen by most traditional fans like myself as previously being an iconic male lead acting role. It is a brave decision to try and move with modern times and cast Jodi in this lead role. The success of recasting the Master as Missy proved to be popular. Maybe it is time for the show to be given a reboot and be brought into the 21st century Dr Who needs a much needed popularity boost as over the last couple of years the audience ratings has been erratic for the programme. I wish the new doctorr who Jodi Whittaker all the best for her tenure as the new doctor ( Will she technically still be called the doctor ?) . Maybe it is a time for a change, a new beginning ๐ Tom
Norm
July 21st, 2017 - 6:43pmIt didn’t need a boost. I lot of people like myself watch it online so ratings means nothing in the internet era.
I got into it from Netflix and now it’s gone. I would pay extra to have it back. My only other option is “elsewhere online” lol.
I’ll give it a chance but I prefer it to be a male.
nygel Harrot
August 4th, 2017 - 9:49pmIf the choice of a female actor WAS that courageous they would have chosen someone over 55. Just PC.
Adam
July 16th, 2017 - 5:00pm16/72017…..the day the TIMELORD died…and PC BS prevailed..
The Moffat Paradox
July 16th, 2017 - 9:18pmMaybe this is a Veritas Monk false reality.

July 16th, 2017 - 5:00pmOh look, I’ve got Dalek bumps. Lol
Weeping Angel
July 16th, 2017 - 5:16pmxD lol
Floppy Who
July 16th, 2017 - 5:37pmIndeed. Moffat predicted it in 1999….
Interesting times.

July 16th, 2017 - 4:58pmJust like the 11th doctor said ”Times change and so must I ” Honestly cant wait to see how the chibnall will pull this off
phillip l poole
July 16th, 2017 - 4:57pmThe Pc brigade strike again. I cannot believe they are going down this route. Financial suicide for BBC Worldwide. I’m one of the millions that won’t be watching.
Doctor Stu
July 16th, 2017 - 5:04pmGood bye close minded people won’t be missed
phillip l poole
July 16th, 2017 - 5:30pmPeople stopping watching = revenue reduction.
Revenue reduction = series being pulled again.
I wonder how well a new Bridget Jones film played by a man would sell
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 6:13pmSilly coment that Doctor Stu, if you think fans that won’t watch any more will be instantly replaced by others you are way off the mark!
booboo
July 16th, 2017 - 6:19pmof course Chris Chibnall could pull a rabbit out the hat and produce some thrilling sci-fi
This is the first time i think where the casting of the companion (assuming a new one) could be just as important as the casting of the Doctor
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 4:56pmIs the companion suddenly going to become male because the doctor is a female?
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:20pmThere have always been male companions dude!
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 5:26pmThere but it has mainly been female
Alexander
July 16th, 2017 - 4:56pmFemale James Bond next, awful choice to change the gender of the Doctor. We let the Master slip because when knew something had to please the politically correct BBC with the overwhelming pressure placed upon them by feminists. We even let the lesbians through the past series go. But this is the death of the show as we know it. The creator of Doctor Who has turned in his grave today.
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 4:57pmThank you
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 5:10pmi agree with you bbc run by gay pc brigade sort of knew they might pull something like this personaly i think its just bollocks a gimmick hope people turn off in their droves hit bbc in viewing figures see how long she lasts then
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:24pmYou hope people turn off? Wow. Such ressentiment! The show thrives on change – actors, writers, show runners, viewers… This is a big change no doubt, but surely that is just Who doing what it does best doing it even more-so. Chill dude.
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 5:57pmYes but Dave it didn’t have to be such a big change! It’s a shame really because it never had to happen.
The Moffat Paradox
July 16th, 2017 - 9:21pmAnd there is no vrtue in change for the sake of change.
Celia Shires
July 16th, 2017 - 4:55pmnothing against Jodie but a female Dr. just doesn’t work for me – but still at 75 years old, and watching since 1963 I guess I’m stuck in my ways!
bob fox
July 16th, 2017 - 4:55pmno no no it is 1987 all over
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:25pmWow, was Sylvester McCoy female. Cripes – I am so modern I didn’t even notice! Kudos me!
phillip l poole
July 16th, 2017 - 5:36pmSylvester McCoy wasn’t too bad. It’s was the bad plots, bad scripts and Sophie Alfred (ace) bad acting.

July 16th, 2017 - 4:55pmI think she good actress and she try her best to make Doctor Who fan happy for

Mark Davies
July 16th, 2017 - 4:50pmWell BBC you have got what you wanted with this selection of 13th Doctor I hope all the cmonth from my fellow fans are just anger and you don’t loose the millions of loyal fans through a cheap trick the poor actress will be the one who suffers as she will become a pub quiz question in years to come as the last person to play DR WHO
Gutted!!!
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 6:17pmThey could always pretend the Do was dreaming(like Bobby Ewing in Dallas) wake up and regenerate into Idris Elba?
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 6:17pmDoctor…..Do?
Jackson
July 16th, 2017 - 4:50pmAt the end of the day, whether the Doctor is played by a man or a woman doesn’t matter. The writers know exactly what they are doing, and as such, I am really looking forward to seeing Jodie in action.
Good Luck, Jodie!
Don’t let the mad delusions of so-called “hardcore” fans put you off from continuing the legacy that is Doctor Who.
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 4:53pmIt does matter because for the last 50+ years we have had a male doctor.
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:28pmIt doesn’t matter Anonymous. Resist change if you wish – but change is the very ethos of the show
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 6:26pm50+ years is a long time. This type of change should have happened years ago.
Chris
July 17th, 2017 - 10:55amI agree Anonymous. This should have happened years ago. They kept putting it off and resisting the call to change to try and change the gender. They have finally done it. If they didn’t there would be an even bigger call to do it next time, and the one after that. But its done now. It’s happened. Everyone breathe. And don’t blink.
Weeping Angel
July 16th, 2017 - 4:50pmI am personally not happy at the choice, but thats just my opinion. It is really unfair so say that what I am saying, just because I disagree with you, is pathetic. I haven’t said that your opinion is pathetic, so why would you be so small-minded and say that about my opinion and about others who feel the same as me?
Weeping Angel
July 16th, 2017 - 4:52pmAlso, I do realise that I have just started a giant argument in the comments ๐
booboo
July 16th, 2017 - 4:55pmsocial media is full of arguments right now, for and against
It brings out the worst in people sadly
Doctor Stu
July 16th, 2017 - 4:53pmThe only thing pathetic is that people haven’t given the poor woman a chance she only had a 30 second teaser clip. If people were judging her harshly after her first episode then yes maybe I’d understand a bit more because you’ve had 40 minutes to gauge whether you think she fits the role or not, a 30 second clip of a hooded figure who shows their face for 10 seconds is not enough for people to be so critical about
Weeping Angel
July 16th, 2017 - 5:04pmBooboo: I know right, I remember when Peter Capaldi was revealed there was a lot of hate, but not as much as this reveal.
Doctor Stu: I don’t think people are judging her just based on this 60 second clip (It was 60 seconds not 30 seconds, but I don’t blame you, I was shocked when I found out that it was a minute long ๐ ), people are judging her based on other shows she has been in, like Broadchurch that they didn’t like her in.
booboo
July 16th, 2017 - 5:08pmthe controversy was bound to happen
I can understand both sides
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 5:07pmWon’t be watching it again .. gender change been coming for a whilst .. and pointless ..
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 4:49pmi wonder who her companion is going to be??
could be Kris Marshall or he could agree to be doctor 14 when the time comes although i would like to see her be the doctor for at least 2 series even though we saw a 30 second clip.
Doctor Stu
July 16th, 2017 - 4:47pmQuick Doctor let’s get back to the TARDIS it’s not safe, triggered people everywhere
Anonymous
July 16th, 2017 - 4:46pmI think Chris has let himself been taken by peer pressure to choose a female doctor. You can’t have a character who has been a male for more then 50 years of television suddenly become a women. Any way good luck to Chris and Jodie.
prototype dalek
July 16th, 2017 - 4:49pmAgreed, or technically over 1,100 years of being Male
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:29pmYes you can. They did.
Norm
July 21st, 2017 - 6:59pm@prototype dalek
I believe he is over 2000 now. I just watched all the seasons again and P C said he is over 2000.

July 16th, 2017 - 4:45pmNope, just no no no

July 16th, 2017 - 4:45pmBye bye to the fans who are going to stop watching, you’ll be missed, not!
Sam
July 16th, 2017 - 4:50pmSay what you will but the show needs those viewing figures like it or not, the shows not exactly in a stable place right now
Pats86
July 16th, 2017 - 6:01pmExactly Sam.
prototype dalek
July 16th, 2017 - 4:45pmJust spoke to my sister and my mother and they hate the choice, sort of agree with them really
dave
July 16th, 2017 - 5:30pmYour mum and sister – I bet they are really boys
prototype dalek
July 16th, 2017 - 5:46pmNope, both male. No point lying really in a argument like this, its an endless thing
Whorules
July 16th, 2017 - 4:43pmI know her work, she’s a good actor, give a chance people, it’s pathetic the way some people are reacting
Luke
July 16th, 2017 - 4:47pmShe was brilliant in broadchurch. The best of luck to her.
Tim M
July 16th, 2017 - 5:19pmIndeed. Give the lady a chance. She is a brilliant actress. It may be what the show needs to survive. I just think the BBC felt whoever they cast next (male or female), the show could be on it’s last legs. So it was go for broke. May as well cast a fantastic actress.
12th Doctor Fan
July 16th, 2017 - 4:43pmNot happy but will watch ep one if im not happy who will have died.
NoMore
July 16th, 2017 - 4:50pmI give the show a year. I can’t see it lasting more than that now. I’ve seen Jodie in a number of things and I’m afriad I don’t think she’s up to it.
Velvet Doctor
July 16th, 2017 - 4:42pmWow! Didn’t know which way it was going to go this time, but I’m very glad the Doctor will regenerate into a woman because I think that’s the next step for the character ๐ I haven’t previously seen her in anything but I’m excited to see where the series is going!
Sam
July 16th, 2017 - 4:51pmWatch Broadchurch, she is superb in that
Velvet Doctor
July 16th, 2017 - 5:07pmI’ve heard good things, I’ll start watching and treat it as research ๐

July 16th, 2017 - 4:42pmWell im actually happy about this news, everyones welcome to their own opinion
phillip l poole
July 16th, 2017 - 5:23pmTotally agree with you about opinion. Don’t make it right though. How about Bridget Jones being played by a man. Or is that to stupid for you.
