Michelle Gomez (Missy) returns to Doctor Who!

Did you miss her? Michelle Gomez returns to Doctor Who!

Michelle Gomez is back as Missy and you won’t believe how she announces her return!

From the Official site…

Michelle Gomez arrives in Cardiff this week to re-join the Doctor Who cast and reclaim the role of ‘Missy’ for series 9. She joins Peter Capaldi (the Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) for the opening episode of the series.

Speaking in Cardiff, Michelle Gomez said:

“Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my Lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see the Doctor again!”

The second two-part adventure to be filmed, ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Witch’s Familiar’, is written by the show’s lead writer Steven Moffat, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Hettie Macdonald (Blink, the Hugo Award-winning Doctor Who episode).

Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, said:

“Everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”

Having filmed ‘The Day of the Doctor’ in the series’ 50th anniversary special and ‘Dark Water’ and ‘Death in Heaven’ in series 8, Jemma Redgrave returns to the guest cast for series 9, alongside the Laurence Olivier Award nominee and film, television, radio and stage actress Kelly Hunter.

A familiar theatre and television actress and one of the UK’s most proficient performers, Clare Higgins also joins the guest cast for the opening of the series. Jaye Griffiths has been gracing our screens in some of the nation’s favourite TV programmes such as Silent Witness and Casualty and also takes up a guest role in the opening episode.

Other guest stars confirmed for the new series include Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra, Demi Papaminas.

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One and will be back on-air this Autumn.

So there will be Episode 1+2 as a Two partner as well as 3+4 and the finale?

You are right though. She is definitely gorgeously evil.

But Master is for a man…. That would be kinda awkward…

One does not simply call Delgado ‘dull’

What about Eric Roberts and Derek Jacobi?

I would be extremely happy if the ridiculous ‘Missy’ title was dumped, it was o’k before the reveal, but as now we know she is ‘The Master’, it would be great to go back to that .

Finally! I’ve always been afraid to mention how much I disliked the Master. Don’t get me wrong…all great actors but such a boring character. I agree, Michelle Gomez has finally made the Master interesting.

It seems difficult to accept Missy as the Master when she’s describing the Doctor as her boyfriend and kissing him. I see ,any people describing her as the best Master since Roger Delgado, but these are not even remotely close to traits the character ever had. Just because Moff changed him into a woman doesn’t mean that suddenly the character has to behave in that manner towards the Doctor.

I’m okay with the Master regenerating into a woman. Heck, I’d be okay if the Doctor regenerated into a woman. The problem I have is that they should actually ACT like the character they regenerated from.

Hopefully, she’ll actually ACT like the Master this time. Last time, we got one shot where she truly felt like the Master, and for the rest of the episode, she was, for all intents and purposes, an evil Tasha Lem. I don’t mind the Master being female, but for God’s sake, make her act like the Master!

    Series 7:
    nobody saw the Whispermen coming
nobody saw the return of the Great Intelligence coming
    nobody saw River’s return coming

There was a cliff-hanger and an explosing – all in the Name Of The Doctor

    Series 8:
    nobody saw Missy coming
    nobody saw CyberDanny coming
    nobody saw CyberBrig coming

There was an explosion – all of this in the 2 part finale

My point is, when Moffat says you won’t see something coming, he means
“Rory will return…. as a woman”
or “River Song will marry Missy”
or “Clara and Danny return and are absorbed by a deadly blob… only to escape with the aid of a metal dog”
or possibly “The Master returns as a Scottish woman who wants to kiss the Doctor.2

I think you’ve confused the Internet. Try sticking with one.

That was the initial idea of Series 8, but with its ending of the Doctor killing the TARDIS, it looks unlikely.

Well I think Missy plays an outstanding Master but I don’t think the Doctor will ever turn female, No way will he! I like to think that when the Master was escaping Gallifrey, maybe he had to pick a female regeneration cycle or a male one and so he chose the female one so the Doctor wouldn’t find or know who he was I don’t know but that is what I like to think. Anyway I was shocked she was actually the Master last year, I was expecting it to be someone new or possibly the Rani

Your are not alone, she was utterly a boring and meaningless character during series 8 which I’ve just re-watched all week on DVD.

And as far as I’m concerned – SHE IS NOT THE MASTER.

No explanation was really given to confirm she was in the first place, and IF she was him, then the whole thing just smacked of desperation for fan’s who are so desperate for a female Doctor so badly which should never happen because the Doctor would do what any guy would do if he sudden had a female body which would be to explore the ‘new features’ and then have some serious ‘fun’ with those new features if you get what I mean, wink wink 😉 😉

Think of Joanna Lumley’s version of the Doctor in ‘The Curse of Fatal Death’, getting all excited by having ‘Dalek Bumps’ on her chest, that will give you a clue why a female Doctor originally being a man for so long would be a bad thing indeed.

Even Peter Davison and his daughter Georgia recently said a few weeks back they don’t like the idea of a female Doctor either.

All Time Agents had these things, it wasn’t a gadget exclusive to Capt Jack….she could have got one from anywhere.

Feel I’m the only one who is highly disappointed by this news. I loved the Master of the classic series but I just didn’t enjoy watching Missy last year 🙁

In C.S. Lewis’ first Narnia masterpiece (The Magician’s Nephew *ahem*), the apple is of high significance. If I remember rightly, the lead character travels between other worlds (or universes) of different spacio-time properties using different rings(or wristwatches!) and the apples are capable of healing, which is why the lead character needs to take one home for his mother.

Fanboys, fangirls, to me; do your work!
