Next series of Doctor Who to be split

Next series of Doctor Who to be split transmission

From the BBC Press office…

The BBC and Steven Moffat have announced today that the transmission of the next series of Doctor Who, in 2011, will be split into two blocks, transmitting in spring and autumn.

The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.

Steven Moffat said: “The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!”

Most Dramas only get 6-8 episodes, i doubt it would even be possible to film any more than 13 episodes in a year, it would simply be to much for the lead cast.

who cares if 6 episodes will be out in the spring and the others in the autumn that all that matters that there are 13 episodes and when autumn series ends the less longer we’ll have to wait til christmas

Well done Mr Moff! Great idea, why didn’t RTD think of this sooner? Oh yeah, cos it was just a job to him. Thankfully the show means more to Steven…

I think this idea is ridiculous i hate waiting as it is and futher more i would like it to be aired like eastenders but i assume they would not have the funds and time but still it would be great also a spin off with the 10th Doctor in the parallel world with rose.

This is a ridiculous idea. Moffat has ruined the show with all his selfish ideas and his predictable story lines. ITS POINTLESS. Please, BBC, sack Mr Moffat, and get another writer. This idea will lose fans, and make the ratings drop… Bad move, Steven.

i dont like the idea, becouse it means that doctor who which has already received ppor ratings this year, will be up against x factor and tv burp, plus i hope that the cliffhanger isnt smillar to the stolen earth, becouse a matt cant leave that early and b i would prefer an open ended one where its all nice and then the tardis crashes down suddenly, at least it leaves speculation, plus i hope there is a multi doctor story sometime soon..

    What?
I don’t like the idea of a split mid series as all the tension and drama that had built up to that point will be forgotten by the end of the Summer! Bad move Moff…

nice idea but it could mean that the series will then be moved to the autumn the following year, which is where I think Doctor Who should be shown

I have to say I’m in 2 minds about this move. It HAS to be the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers to hold the audience interest and bring them back for the 2nd 1/2 of the season. I’m just not sure that is acheiveable ?

That said, this does at least bring 1/2 the season back to where Dr Who SHOULD be…those DARK AUTUMN Saturday nights ! This is something Dr Who has been missing since its return !

I think this is a rubbish idea. Doctor Who fans will have nothing to look forward to. If it only goes up to episode 7 people will loose the plot and also loose interest. I think Steven Moffat has made a silly mistake and will loose a lot of Doctor Who Fans.
