Costume Revealed! Peter Capaldi’s Era Officially Begins

Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins

The Doctor has a new look as Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins. In a picture released today by the BBC, Capaldi can be seen in the costume that will define his time as the Twelfth Time Lord in one of TV’s biggest roles. Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”

Filming for episode one of series 8 began earlier this month, after 10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first much-anticipated glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor. Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, commented: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The Twelfth Time Lord means business.”

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.

I think a whole new dalek race would be awesome, mixture between the paradigm daleks and bronze daleks would be awesome! And their casing would be grey and there eye piece white (glowing white)

Does that mean a return as well to “reverse the polarity of the neutron flow” and maybe some Venussian Karate thrown in?

    “AHEIEE”!!!

I really hope there is a dalek civil war, either bronze daleks vs paradgim daleks or they create a new dalek but these daleks see them as weak and try to destroy them resulting in dalek civil war, I think it would just make the daleks more intresting again

As much as I love that there’s a new doctor, the question marks seem like a cool idea. The outfit looks, well, a bit wrong to me. I wouldn’t know how the rest of you feel, but it’s always OK to me to take a little bit of the past and bring it back into the now. Plus, a question mark here or there might spice it up a bit.

I also believe bowties are cool, but I don’t think the bowtie would be right on anyone but Matt Smith.

Anyone else feeling the kissing between the Doctor and a Companion should end now ?.

After all, Peter Capaldi is 55 years old, making him old enough to be Jenna-Louise Coleman’s Dad, whose 27 herself.

@ DOCTOR WHO ONE – The question marks first appeared in Tom Bakers 1980 costume and continued in each Doctrs costume right through to Sylvester McCoy’s jumper, and weren’t referenced in the 1970s at all.

Brilliant costume but I think it needs some kind of tie not a bow tie because it will remind people to much of matt but I think it needs a tie

actually I wouldnt mind the return of the question marks

  • DOCTOR WHO ONE

    January 29th, 2014 - 5:50pm

No, Question Marks are a thing of the past. It might have been well accepted in back in the late 70’s and all throughout the 80’s, but times have changed, a no one would probably like a modern Doctor with Question Marks on his suit in anyway.

If this is meant to be a wind-up then it’s a very trite one; if it’s meant to be an April Fool then you are 3 months too early!
