Costume Revealed! Peter Capaldi’s Era Officially Begins

Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins

The Doctor has a new look as Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins. In a picture released today by the BBC, Capaldi can be seen in the costume that will define his time as the Twelfth Time Lord in one of TV’s biggest roles. Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”

Filming for episode one of series 8 began earlier this month, after 10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first much-anticipated glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor. Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, commented: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The Twelfth Time Lord means business.”

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.

just had a thought. if the doctor no longer dies at trenzalore, his grave isn’t there, thus clara couldn’t have jumped into his time stream, she wouldn’t have been in victorian london, [in fact she wouldn’t have saved the doctor from the dale asylum, but assuming he would’ve saved himself] the doctor then would not have gone looking for clara for her to be in the tardis etc. etc.

I don’t care what he wears, I want River Song back. Give River her own show, how about “The Melody of River Song”, Alex Kingston is magnificent.

I agree with Anonymous, and to be honest, some of us was getting fed up with the whole boring ‘Bow Ties are Cool’ thing.

Doctor Who fan for over 30 yrs, i almost feel that the show has run its course. Have seen this actor in a touch wood show.659 where children were given to creatures from another world. This actor killed his wife, and children, then himself. Being a government official. Now the new doctor. “Na”. Can’t see it. Used to be fan.

Will reserve judgement on the costume for now, as it’s very much part of the whole Doctors identity…it will be interesting to see if the classic almost somber look works with Peter Capaldi’s interpretation

I think the question marks are better suited to the 80’s Doctor. Like Robert Holmes’s hammy horror monsters, Russel T Davies’ more human Doctor, and Steven Moffat’s complex scripts, it was John Nathan Turner’s mark on the show, and it’s better left to his era.

I was thinking more of a hat or a cane myself (a Sonic Cane, maybe?)

I agree. Now that there’s an older Doctor, the Doctor/companion romances will have to be put to rest.

No, David Tennant still didn’t look right with a bow tie. Bow ties are more suited to Matt Smith, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee.

Before they introduce any more variants of Dalek, I think they need to do something with the New Paradigm Daleks. As controversial as they are, there were many interesting ideas that went into them, such as the different ranks, the hidden weapon, and the unknown purpose of the Eternal Dalek. It’s sad because it seems like we may never see these concepts put into action.

He has shown a more serious, and sometimes even darker side. Just look at The Time of Angels, A Good Man Goes To War, The Girl Who Waited, The God Complex, or The Snowmen. In all of these episodes, he shows a more serious, even darker side, and in The Girl Who Waited, he’s very much the anti-hero.

Just read a recent interview with Uproxx Wheatley and it briefly mentions Ben Wheatley, director of the first two episodes of Series 8
“I’ve got two more weeks shooting Doctor Who, which hopefully is going to go in July.”

So let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later…
