May 18th, 2013 - 11:53pmGuys, Moffat gave a statement on all this before this episode was even released. As part of the 50th he’s bring in Hurt to play the part of the 9th doctor, a regeneration that The Doctor forgot, or supressed the memory of. Which sucks in itself since that means;
Hurt = 9
Chris = 10
Tennant = 11
Matt = 12
And a the very beginning, it was said that The Doctor could only have 12 regenerations. Can you imagine being Moffat? “My name is Steven Moffat – And I ended Doctor Who!”

May 18th, 2013 - 11:50pmMy super smart friend, thinks that john hurt is the 12th doctor (the last according to a episode 30 years ago) that does something so bad he can no longer call himself the doctor…hence matt smith quoting ‘A name is like a promise…he (john hurt) broke that promise. Saying he stopped calling himself the doctor…which implies he must be a future doctor
Personly I prefere the endings that some evil alien tries to take over the world and not some cliff hanger that causes your brain too implode
PLEASE reply your oppinion on my friends theory

May 18th, 2013 - 11:47pmI am also very confused. But he couldn’t be the 13th Doctor because The Doctor can only regenerate 12 times. Meaning if John Hurt is the 9th Doctor, Matt Smith will be the last Doctor. If that’s true, I don’t think Matt Smith is good enough to be the last one, I love him and all but he shouldn’t be ‘The Last Doctor’.
I have no theory, so I guess I just have to wait and see.

May 18th, 2013 - 11:45pmI like all the theories on how John Hurt might be the 9th doctor and how Matt Smith is then the 12th but i think we are forgetting that Clara just went and saw all the doctors and if you listen to what she says…
Clara : But i never saw that one. I saw all of you. Eleven faces, all of them you. You’re the 11th doctor.
Doctor Who: I said he was me i never said he was The Doctor.
So how come Clara didn’t see him?
lee
May 18th, 2013 - 11:42pmthe actual name of the doctor!
booboo
May 18th, 2013 - 11:41pmWell that’s obvious, i don’t see what you mean
lee
May 18th, 2013 - 11:38pmJohn Hurt Is an ACTOR – Not the name of the doctor!!!!
booboo
May 18th, 2013 - 11:37pmHow so, Clara said she had seen all 11 Doctors but not the Hurt Doctor before.
Great
May 18th, 2013 - 11:32pmMate he is actually playing ……….. Spoiler …………,,,.,…,,,,………….. The 8th Doctor so they don’t have change all the figures and books
Scott
May 18th, 2013 - 11:18pmI think or my theories is from reading up on things that the split into two for some reason or another to do with the ending of the time war, this is a separate part of the doctor but it isn’t THE doctor
Frankie
May 18th, 2013 - 11:08pm“Clara herself said that the current Doctor played by Matt Smith in todays episode [“I saw your past selves, your the 11th Doctor”], and she said so herself that she never saw the one that’s ment to be John Hurt”
Yes, but she wouldn’t have seen The Doctor during the Time War because the entire event is time locked…
Andrew
May 18th, 2013 - 11:07pmClose, when the 8th Doctor regenerates, it splits into two, he is the 9th doctor but an alternate one who fights in the war, this is only my theory but I think it fits, he broke the name of the doctor because he killed the timelords and daleks ‘without choice’.
Some bloke
May 18th, 2013 - 11:02pmSPOILER ALERT!!!!
John Hurt is rumoured to be playing the forgotten 9th doctor. They are saying something happened in the time war which caused the doctor to forget this incarnation, making him think that eccleston was the 9th doctor when in actual fact he was the 10th 😀

May 18th, 2013 - 10:48pmHi,
I’m a little bit confused with what is going on, can someone explain it to me?
Thanks
DCW
May 18th, 2013 - 10:47pmI have a theory that John Hurt will play the Doctor by his real name which is ‘The First’ John’s character was the 1st incarnation before Hartnell, he is was evil, more evil than the Master! The anniversary will show what evil he did along time ago, in the end of this process he will die and regenerate into Will Hartnell. In redemption and seeing the error of his ways Will Hartnell declares himself from here on in I shall be The Doctor, in shame of his former self, takes his granddaughter and steals a Tardis thus running away from Gallifrey and temptations and responsibilites thus the quote “I’ve been running my whole life” the evil The First did was to break laws of Time etc!, wanting to control the universe very much like The Master does. This would explain why the Doctor always wants to ‘save’ The Master and cant bring himself to kill him because he saved himself through redemption thus becoming The Doctor, the redemption is in “seeing the universe for what it is” “not controlling it” as he said to the Master in the past. The Doctor learns to care and that all things deserve to live even The Daleks, he always wants The Master to see this, why? Unless he has already been down a dark path and learnt a harsh lesson from it! Maybe the lesson is in his process of being evil Susan’s parents was killed? What better reason for redemption and becoming The Doctor!? And taking her away from Gallifrey and Corrupt Timelords. The Timelords did become bad in the end, we know this having seen them, maybe Will Hartnell saw this eventually happening one day another reason for going, Susan won’t become like them! So takes her away. I don’t believe John Hurt Being the 9th, The 8th Doctor fought and died in The Time War but going back to my point of being redeemed could not kill he’s The Doctor so locks The Timelords in a Timelock, alive but unable to do the Universe harm, why? Because they would have gone onto do what The First aka John Hurt did or nearly did which would have been to destroy all life in the Universe! Come 23/11/13 we will see how close my theory is! “Been running my whole life” running from the only evil he fears himself! I feel this makes the most logical sense and why he is universally loathed, feared but loved!

May 18th, 2013 - 10:43pmJohn Hurt is a younger first doctor before he left gallifrey with Susan

May 18th, 2013 - 10:38pmI think John hurt is the older version of the eight doctor during the time war before eccelston.

May 18th, 2013 - 10:28pmThis is what I think:
Something MUST have happened in the Time War to force regeneration from 8th to 9th. SO, the 10th Doctor said that in the final days of the war the Time Lords changed, became desperate. We seen an example of this in the End of Time.
Each doctor never seems to age but maybe near the end of the war the 8th Doctor was so tired, so ashamed of what his people were doing and planning that it changed him, it aged him. And when he ended it he had no choice and he did it in the name of peace as it was the same thing to do as he said today.
And when he ended it he wa so old he just had to regenerate into the 9th. What do you guys think? Please comment!
Great
May 18th, 2013 - 10:13pmHe is Paul M but older so he’s the 8th
Great
May 18th, 2013 - 10:12pmWhat u think boo boo. Sadly no Paul
Great
May 18th, 2013 - 10:11pmGuys chill. The point was John hurt didn’t act like the doctor due to him killing pretty much most the time lords therefore in away he is a doctor but doctor saids he isn’t a doctor as he didn’t act like him so yes John is the doctor but not the doctor we know so making him a kinda 8.5 doctor between Paul and Chris
Great
May 18th, 2013 - 10:08pmIt expressed the point of the show and brilliant episode sadly no Paul macan it was right problems sadly

May 18th, 2013 - 10:00pmSo that’s why we need an updated doctors figure set!
Matt
May 18th, 2013 - 9:57pmThus the theory meaning, that the amended Doctor order would be:
Hurt: 9
Eccleston: 10
Tennant: 11
Smith: 12
Matt
May 18th, 2013 - 9:56pmTheres a theory hes a suppressed memory of The Doctor, that he was the actual Doctor who killed all the Time-Lords to end the Time War etc, and The Doctor didnt want to accept it, and maybe he tried to remove that incarnation from databases? Unless that incarnation only existed in the Time-War? so only other time-lords and Daleks saw it?

May 18th, 2013 - 9:46pmi think that the doctor and Clara will try and escape, but cannot for some reason, so the Hurt doctor will help them escape, and on the way maybe the 10th doctor try’s to help?
