What did you Think of Asylum of The Daleks?
What did you Think of Asylum of The Daleks
The first episode of series 7a has finally aired so what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average. Vote below.
Matt Smith returns as the oldest time-traveller in the universe. The Time Lord, Amy and Rory are kidnapped by their oldest foe the Daleks and forced on a seemingly impossible mission โ to enter the Asylum, a planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of the deadly aliensโ kind.
From the official site…
Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer, thanked fans and the press for keeping the secret:
โI hope you all got a nice surprise when Jenna popped up in Doctor Who several months early. If so, that surprise came to you courtesy of the frankly magnificent ladies and gentlemen of the press, and of the many Doctor Who forums and blogs too. This show has been seen at four separate screenings, across four different countries and yet not one person gave one spoiler. From all of us on Doctor Who, a heartfelt thank you for helping us tell our story.โ

September 3rd, 2012 - 10:34pmThink of the experience story as not doctor who or a few daleks resisted.

September 3rd, 2012 - 10:01pmcould it be that the dalek creatures inside the casing are given a new outer shell when they are too badly damaged or are upgraded from time to time, this would explain why the intensive care daleks looked like newer daleks but had (classic) old insides.
or maybe i’m just trying to find a reason to make a poor episode seem a bit better than it was.

September 3rd, 2012 - 8:20pmThat as may be- fans of the TV series who’ve not seen these other stories/games/whatever will have no idea why things don’t tally from previous series stories….
Any decent Writer/Producer should have surely considered this when producing a hugely popular tv series with such a large audience (many of whom will only know the stories of the SHOW!)- and treated the online game as stand-alone & either stayed true to previous story arcs in the show, or offered believable explanation to the changes we fans have seen…
Moffat did neither!

September 3rd, 2012 - 7:51pmYeah, the mistake is mentioned on Doctor Who Wiki, and so are the following mistakes from the same episode –
The Doctor has a plaster on his finger that keeps disappearing and reappearing.
In the ending scene where The Doctor is in the TARDIS, you can see the overhead camera reflected in the glass floor next to the console.
When the Doctor, Amy and Rory are in the Dalek Holding Cell, the circular platform they are standing on lifts. on one shot, it shows them and the Daleks looking all around them – the Doctor is looking towards ‘us’ – but in the next shot, the Doctor is looking upwards into the Dalek Parliament.
When the Doctor says “It’s Christmas!” in the Dalek Parliament, the shot shows bronze RTD era Daleks and a few Paradigm Daleks. Except the shot has been reversed and the suckers are where the guns should be, and the guns are where the suckers should be.

September 3rd, 2012 - 7:49pmThanks for the comments guys, this is purely my opinion of course, & I think it’s safe to say that opinion on Asylum of the Daleks, & on the whole: Moffats series’ & style compared to Davies at the helm have greatly divided opinion across the board!
Esterath: I’m not saying Moffats Dr Who isn’t watchable & enjoyable- it just doesn’t often tie in with previous stories or plots- especially in the case of the Daleks & the time war!

September 3rd, 2012 - 7:29pmI’ve just been reading about ‘City of the Daleks’ and ‘The Only Good Dalek’ inside my copy of the Dalek Handbook, and it seems to me that both these stories clearly are set between Victory and Asylum, plus the only good Dalek would suggest the Time War Daleks from Asylum come from the same story, which would explain why Asylum seemed to have so many of them.
Ive never played City of the Daleks or read the only good Dalek, but if concidered canon, then it explains how Asylum has both Daleks, so they fit into Doctor Who like this –
VICTORY OF THE DALEKS
CITY OF THE DALEKS
THE ONLY GOOD DALEK
ASYLUM OF THE DALEKS

September 3rd, 2012 - 7:26pmdid you notice before rory turned the dalek head from one camera angle the dalek didnt have ‘ear lamps’ and from the other it did!?!?!
Jason doctorwhoone
September 3rd, 2012 - 7:25pmNo. Jenna was playing a completely different character. Clara, who she will be playing from Christmas 2012 onwards, is the name of her actual character who will be replacing Amy and Rory to travel with the Doctor in the Tardis.
Clara is said to be from the Victorian era, so Oswin who we saw in Asylum is a descendant from many many years later, making Clara her great great great grandmother or some other relation.

September 3rd, 2012 - 5:51pmso lets think of another way to impliment all of the daleks without ripping apart the time-space continum. Moffat wrote this very well and the idea of having every dalek made sense since there always would be war survivors from every era of daleks. The reason there was so many bronze ones was because they were the daleks used during the time war. Why the special weapons dalek was there makes no sense to me because there was one of those(if im correct) and the chances of that one surviving is pretty minimal. There was a few different daleks in ‘intensive care’ if you looked hard enough

September 3rd, 2012 - 4:46pmnew title sequence sucked
Jason doctorwhoone
September 3rd, 2012 - 3:42pmIt’s been suggested that there was infact more then 1 Special Weapons Gunner Dalek, and Davros happened to just use 1 of them, so the one in Remembrance is the not the same 1 in Asylum.
What is confusing is the origin of the Special Weapons Gunner Dalek.
Some say that the Renegade Daleks created it against the Imperial Daleks, and that Davros somehow reprogrammed it and had it’s casing repainted white and gold to be one of his Imperial Daleks.
Another accounts claims that Davros took the design of his Daleks further by creating the Special Weapons Gunner Dalek himself.
Either way, it’s an awesome Dalek ๐

September 3rd, 2012 - 3:38pmNo Tom, Oswin died in Asylum as a Dalek, it’s Clara who’s the name of the character Jenna-Louise Coleman is actually going to play in Series 7 starting with the Christmas Special.
Basicly Jenna is doing the same thing that Freema Agyman did. Played Martha’s cousin Adeola in the Series 2 finale, and then return 2 episodes later as Martha Jones, completely different women but played by the same actress.
Jason doctorwhoone
September 3rd, 2012 - 3:34pmTrue, but there is a continuity mistake made when the Doctor see’s some Time War Daleks in intensive care. Oswin says they came from Spiridon, Kembel, Vulcan etc, but they are the wrong type of Dalek, only classic Daleks where seen on those planets, so Daleks from the classic series should have been in the intensive care scenes, not the Time War ones.
And Steven Moffat calls himself a Doctor Who fan.
If it was me, that mistake would never have been made it onto TV ๐

September 3rd, 2012 - 12:32pmive played City Of The Daleks & i can’t remember anything to do with the bronze daleks surviving. i can understand why there was some in the asylum but not why there were so many in the ship. how come the special weapons dalek was in the asylum when it wasn’t insane in Rememberence Of The Daleks

September 3rd, 2012 - 12:21pmThere are NSD in the alysum because they where put in there before ‘Dalek’.

September 3rd, 2012 - 12:19pmmaybe it explains in the xmas special & moffat did say that the daleks might return in the christmas special so there could be a connection some where in the episode.

September 3rd, 2012 - 12:13pmi was thinking the same thing as you Jason doctorwhoone & was going to comment about it yesterday but i thought “Naa, it might be the same person” but it isn’t. most likely a relative or she could change her name in one of the episodes.
