November 13th, 2014 - 4:04amNot sure I liked the idea of the master coming back as Missy. It seems like the writers are trying to make a plot line for the future where Dr Who would be female.
Is the Dr going to be another sacrifice to political correctness?
The Moffat Paradox
November 11th, 2014 - 7:40pmDid Missy/The Master order the “Make Your Own Cybermen” booklet? Because on another viewing that’s what they appear to be:all from 3W with even the latest design which explains the lack of a separate control/leadership and no formal alliance.

November 10th, 2014 - 7:31pmhow was it offensive the brigadier got turned into a cyberman
he would have been a cyberman anyway so it makes no difference
actually if anything it is better as it we saw him being good not an evil cyberman.
Exterminator
November 10th, 2014 - 8:23pmNow Danny is controlling the cybermen and the Brigadier looks like he might be the next cyber leader going by the black bits on his handles, are the cybermen now good guys?

November 11th, 2014 - 9:14amDidn’t Danny and the rest of the cybermen die sacrificing themselves to kill the clouds?? I thought only the Brigadier cyberman survived???
Exterminator
November 11th, 2014 - 2:47pmCyberDanny must’ve survived because he spoke to Clara and sent the little boy back with the control bracelet.

November 12th, 2014 - 4:08pmNo, Exterminator, that was Danny calling from the Nethersphere. He sent the boy he killed back in his place.
Exterminator
November 12th, 2014 - 8:08pmSo Danny’s cyber body has been destroyed but his mind is alive in the nethersphere.
I get the feeling we haven’t seen the last of him. Although, I preferred him as a cyberman.
Exterminator
November 10th, 2014 - 2:18pmI just had a thought, Santa must be a time lord! How else does he get round the whole planet in just one night to deliver all the presents? His sleigh is a Tardis! It must be able to travel through time and be bigger on the inside to carry enough presents for every child in the world.
Is this the return of the meddling monk?
The Moffat Paradox
November 10th, 2014 - 12:41pmThought after NIS the latest Cybermen would now be a serious potential challenge to the Daleks but only the Daleks ended the seige of Trenzalore.Nonetheless liked the idea Missy/The Master had of their being a force to take races like that on.(Though I still don’t buy their not still having a Cyberleader/planner that would allow anyone not cyberised to be in command.)
So instead of a Time-War why not now have something like a galaxy(ies) wide Cyber-Dalek war as a story arc? While I think Flatline was the best episode I also liked Into The Dalek because we see an iconic monster slugging it out more in actual military style action.
Dalek The Supreme
November 10th, 2014 - 12:34pmI think it was good. Definitely better than Dark Water, but it did have it’s problems. I like how the Doctor and Clara were handled, they were very much in character. I especially liked how the Doctor took the opportunity to rub it in Missy’s face that he was pretty much ruler of the Earth. The goodbye scene was cleverly done, and it’s fitting that they said goodbye lying to each other. I am confused about where Gallifrey is now. Didn’t they find the right universe back in The Time of the Doctor??? Well, hopefully it’ll come back soon. I was really hoping for a story arc about finding Gallifrey this season, which really is what we SHOULD have got, but no, it’s still missing, and the Doctor is only now just bothering to search for it! Anyway, Danny Pink was arguably at his best in this episode. The scene where Clara has to delete his emotions made me genuinely concerned, and though I’m not a huge fan of the character, I shed tears when he made his sacrifice. I like Missy up to a point. She was bonkers, she was homicidal, and she was a great Master. However, I do NOT like how they just got rid of her at the end. What’s the point in bringing the Master back as a woman, only to kill her off?! Still, I do think it was fitting that the Brigadier be the one to do it, and I did like his inclusion. I really liked how he was given a fitting exit, despite the fact that Nicholas Courtney is sadly passed away. Is anyone else hoping for a spin-off series with the Brigadier Cyberman, though? The Cybermen in this episode… aside from the Danny Pink scene, I did not like how they were handled at all. Their plan made sense enough, given what we saw in Nightmare in Silver, but there’s no explanation as to how the Master gained control over them. Also they can FLY now??? I don’t at all mind the detaching body parts, and I GUESS I can tolerate the super-speed, but FLYING??? Are they ripping off the Daleks now?!? Ugh…! And let the Iron Man jokes resume… Still, Osgood was fun, and I was genuinely shocked when Missy killed her. Kate Stewart didn’t do much though… Also, even though I saw the next time trailer for the Christmas special before I saw the episode, I did NOT expect Santa Claus to show up. Does anyone else remember the Eleventh Doctor showing a kid a photo of him with Santa Claus and Albert Einstein, and implying they went on guy’s nights out? Hmm… Anyway, getting back on topic, I rate the episode 6.5/10. A good overall story with many great scenes, but suffers from too many story arcs resolving themselves at once, and poor handling of the Cybermen.

November 10th, 2014 - 9:31amAm I the only one who found the brigadier scene moving and upsetting and it was a nice touch to the episode
WFK DVD Collector 14
November 10th, 2014 - 9:58amI got really choked up at the Brigadier scene aswell. I’m not really sure why people are hating on it, any of the Doctor’s companions berried on earth, would have come back as Cybermen, Sarah Jane, Amy & Rory, The Brigadier ect.

November 11th, 2014 - 11:40amPeople should be happy that he made an appearance and the fact he saved his daughter from falling and dying

November 10th, 2014 - 1:50amNot a bad ending, if a little twee and overly sentimental. Overall an awful season and I think time for someone new at the helm. If ever a series needed a good ‘boot up the backside’, this is one.
Adam Webbow
November 10th, 2014 - 1:39amSo the Brigadier rose from his (presumably somewhere in Scotland btw) newly cyber-converted (though fully in control of his actions) and SOMEHOW SENSED that his daughter was falling rapidly from 20,000 feet over London, got there in time, and then dropped her off where the Doctor is. The poorest most cloying and disrespectful writing on television ever.

November 10th, 2014 - 3:10amAgreed!
Half-a-Whovian
November 10th, 2014 - 12:12amWhat a bunch of piffle that episode was, reflecting the entire series. Davis made DW great by exploring his audience and their lives, fears and hopes now. We were watching ourselves on the screen with its references to conspiracy theories, media manipulation, xenophobia and eco-concerns. Moffet is just obsessed with bending the Doctor and his legend about as much as he can, and really no-one out-side the fanatical Whovians understand all the reference points. My friends don’t watch this with their kids on Saturday night as a treat like they did with the first 4 series.
doctor no more
November 17th, 2014 - 2:10pmtotally agree,my kids and wife have stopped watching now after matt smith changed into a grumpy old man with no character at all, what a shame as we all loved it.im still watching to see if it gets better, but it is struggling.moffets destroying everything that r.t.davies made great.i”ll say again wheres the fanastic back ground music gone,is murry gold giving up aswell!the Christmas special looks like it going to be very silly.i don’t like how the master has returned as a women, last time we saw him he disappeared with the time lords,so have they found a way to escape also!??
Gallifrey Will Rise Again
November 9th, 2014 - 9:22pmHaving re-watched dark water/death in heaven I will go back on my previous comment that I think danny will return and agree with the other people who say clara is pregnant, the post-it notes at the beginning of dark water heavily hint at it.
I do think however that danny & Clara’s emotional scenes in death in heaven would have been more tear jerk worthy for us the viewers if we had got to know danny a bit more. But the acting from both was absolute top drawer.
Finally the cybermen were scary again. I really liked them attacking the plane and particularly when they were climbing out of the graves, it’s certainly something I won’t forget in a while.
Although we assume gallifrey wasn’t there and missy was indeed lying, we didn’t actually see what the doctor saw, but his reaction really really shocked me (which is a good thing). I’m sure it’ll be picked up in series 9 or 10 at the latest when hopefully we’ll see missy again.
Great series. Peter capaldi & jenna coleman have been superb (loved their chemistry particularly).
wizard
November 9th, 2014 - 9:12pmi assume thats the last of clara what a poor ending for her after all she did for the doctor i thought they might have given her a better ending
i like capaldi but still dont like moffats writing much or the stories he comes up with somethings missing …russell t is still the best
Gallifrey Will Rise Again
November 9th, 2014 - 9:40pmClara’s story isn’t done yet remember what santa said:
“It can’t end like that. We need to get this sorted and quickly”
“She’s not alright, you know, and neither are you. I’m coming in!”
I knew I’d get round to you eventually, now stop gawping and tell me. What do you want for Christmas?
Exterminator
November 9th, 2014 - 11:29pmSanta will probably bring Danny back for Christmas and it will be all mushy and lovey dovey! I hate it already.

November 9th, 2014 - 9:11pmso has Clara left for good? and has the doctor found Gallifrey? is Osgood dead for good? im confused the episode was brilliant but at some parts they were confusing and pointless
booboo
November 9th, 2014 - 9:17pmthe general feeling is Missy lied and there was no Gallifrey but the Doctor lied to Clara about it the same as Clara was lying about Danny – neither had what they wanted but they told each other they did to keep each other happy – quite sad really
brendan
November 9th, 2014 - 8:56pmI think Clara is the doctors mother, which is why she threw herself into his time stream, as any mother would.
Kevin
November 9th, 2014 - 9:22pmIs Missy (The Master) dead or not is the big question!! Though the blast seems to come from the Cyberbrigadier, dont forget when she teleported from the plane, that was also a blue haze/blast so who’s to know!!!
CJ
November 9th, 2014 - 9:51pmShes not the Doctors Mother, end of!
SC
November 9th, 2014 - 11:25pmNo she isn’t his mother. If she is then she’s kind of weird for calling her son her “Boyfriend.”
The TARDIS
November 9th, 2014 - 8:54pmI loathed the finale last night. Really, really hated it. I watched it again tonight, and suddenly I love it! Okay, so I cringe a bit at “the promise of a soldier!” And I find the part with the Brig really rather… Shall we say distasteful? Plus what the doo-dah is going on with Santa Claus?! But on the whole, I really rather enjoyed it. It tied up the “am I a good man?” Satisfyingly, and gave us a wonderful Master/Missy. Although I don’t think the question of why she paired up the a Doctor and Clara was answered brilliantly, but you can’t have everything!
Doctor Stu
November 9th, 2014 - 8:34pmPeople are saying that they think its weird how it was only Danny who broke through the emotional inhibitor and retained his original emotions but the Brigadier must have as well seeing as he saved Kate. If you think about it all of the other cybermen were sort of gormish after leaving their graves and so it can be suggested that there were actually loads of cybermen who managed to partly regain their emotions
The Flying Shark
November 9th, 2014 - 8:25pmI thought this episode was great, but all of the Danny stuff ruined it slightly.
Anonymous
November 9th, 2014 - 5:10pmThe problem with this story is that it completely focuses on Danny and Clara. It shouldn’t have and even if it focused on Missy (Who I refuse to call the Master because it is basically the Rani) it wouldn’t be great either. I would adore it if Series 9 wasn’t about the companions or about petty story arcs and instead about telling a proper story and have it make sense as well. The best story of the season was Mummy On The Orient Express and is probably the most popular too. Yes, and that story wasn’t about the companion sobbing or having a meaningless dilemma and continuity references 24:7. Make more stories like that…
CJ
November 9th, 2014 - 5:31pmMissy is 100% the Master whether you like it or not

November 9th, 2014 - 4:56pmThat was very disappointing and the Brigadier scene was just offensive to the character and all his fans.

November 9th, 2014 - 4:59pmAlso the cybermen were wasted, seb was wasted and too many things were left unanswered.
when i say run
November 9th, 2014 - 6:05pmYour right it was offensive to the the brigadier’s character and to the memory of Nicholas Courtney after he made the character his own, just to have him turn into a Cyberman in a rubbish scene, in a rubbish series. Probably the worst so far. Mind you the last two episodes have been offensive in general, what with don’t cremate me, etc. If it continues at the quality of series 8, gone are the day of good doctor who.
Ian
November 9th, 2014 - 7:16pmAbsolutely.
A travesty. Good Doctor dragged down by appalling plots and supporting cast. A great opportunity missed.
Gallifrey Will Rise Again
November 9th, 2014 - 8:29pmI don’t think it was offensive at all to his character, I thought it was quite nicely done and a very moving final farewell to a doctor who legend. Amy & rory would have been converted too along with every other deceased person on the planet, so the brig wouldn’t have been an exception anyway.
But without doubt these are the most depressing episodes in its 50+ year history but I think it worked very well and tied in nicely with the tone of the series.
Certain things were left unanswered but chances are they will be addressed in series 9 or 10, remember how long the silence story arc lasted.

November 10th, 2014 - 1:44pmIf for a moment we discount DW forums (I think it’s a fair assumption that anyone on a forum is a fairly commited Whovian), most (by most I mean more than half) of the DW fans that I’ve spoken to face to face (both ardent fans and more casual fans) either don’t like Capaldi as the 12th Doctor, or are disappointed that he is a lot poorer than they thought he was going to be.

I wasn’t being offensive, it is an opinion on DW, which may differ from yours but is equally valid. This is a forum, where people have different views and ideas.

November 9th, 2014 - 4:44pmNicholas Courtney died of cancer, a long illness which is not exactly a predictable one. There were times he could have been well enough to appear in the Sarah Jane Adventures. However, cancer is one you can judge from one day to the next, nor the treatment. Trust me, I know.

November 9th, 2014 - 4:49pmOne you cannot judge, I meant.
Ian
November 9th, 2014 - 3:56pmThis was an insult to the memory of Nicholas Courtney.
Terrible, and disrespectful!
DOCTOR WHO ONE
November 9th, 2014 - 4:14pmI disagree. He never actually appeared in the new series when he had the chance too, so to have his character appear in the new series, even if he was resurrected as a Cyberman, was better then just being given the same old excuse of “Oh, the Brigadier is stuck in Geneva’.
CJ
November 9th, 2014 - 4:34pmtrue

November 9th, 2014 - 4:34pmIt should be pointed out that Nicholas Courtney was rather ill when the new series started back in 2005. So I doubt very much that he had “the chance to”.

November 9th, 2014 - 5:13pmI completely agree. It was a disrespect to the actor to just take him away as a throwaway bit of the story. The actor had an excellent send off in Battlefield and it was very depressing hearing of his death in The Wedding Of River Song (perhaps, the best scene in the entirety of Series 6).
the astronaut of death
November 9th, 2014 - 5:21pmIan please could
you explain why
because I didn’t see it In that way I saw it as remembering him this episode was mainly about the dead so I think it was a lovely little touch
Ian
November 9th, 2014 - 7:20pmI feel the embodiment of so many classic Who moments in the Brig – to write him off as Iron Man….. sorry Cyberman really was off in so many ways.
Meddling with his corpse to make him in to one of the Doctors villains was just so wrong. It’s difficult to explain – but if anybody really think this is not offensive, or was a good idea – then I think the show really is lost beyond all hope.

November 9th, 2014 - 7:50pmI agree with you, Ian. It’s a all been a very unfortunate series and I wish I could wipe it away from my memory. Yes, give me that animal-thingy that erases memory, please!
