Since 1963, many DW episodes have been set in the past.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a period drama with, dinosaurs, robots, talking lizards and time machines… were you mistakenly watching Downton Abbey on DVD?

Very disappointing please do not do Victorian London theme its is so boring for the first 40 minute’s and then the last 10 minutes were just wonderful. Do not like new rework of theme tune, what’s wrong with original tune or last series version it is so iconic for the 50th year and we all grew up with it and passed the love of it on to our children.

It is very early days remember… an impressively different fan-inspired title sequence (aside from barely tweaked logo); not so pleased by the theme arrangement or much of the first 40 minutes (basic instability slapstick as per usual) however after that, eerie and promising signs that Peter Capaldi will be an excellent, charismatic, unpredictable and versatile Dr. Who. Well worth giving him all our support as he develops the role. 🙂

Just my opinion, oh and I hope his new screwdriver is cool because the tardis and the opening introduction was horrible. Hope it gets better.

Really enjoyed it. Capaldi superb. Very well written.

Was dreading this story as, after the brilliant “Nightmare in Silver”, I have disliked the three “…of the Doctor” stories. It was a rubbish 50th anniversary (except for Adventures in Time and Space).

This has restored my faith; I am over the moon. Brilliant Doctor, great script, superb direction.

Doctor Who is back on track.

Absolutely brilliant, well done Peter Capaldi; previous Doctors are a hard act to follow but you pulled it off.

holy cow!!! i’m loving the brilliant scottish accent and when matt smith came in – well it was bloomin amazing! peter is just an amazing doctor! the intro was good: loved the effects but not so much the actual theme tune. but hey! that has no say in how good the acting was in that! Strax was as funny as ever and vastra & jenny were brilliant. fav part: when peter was disguised as the clockwork robot (hey hey!!! 😀 )and became quite cocky! absolutely brilliant – well done doctor who!!!!!

On a positive note, Capaldi looks promising & can act, brings a new dimension to the role.
    However…..
Please lets have a decent story , dinosaur, big ben, unfeasible robots with clicking noise every time they move ??
Oh, and lets lose the Victorian London theme please, it never really worked for the Christmas specials !.
Fingers crossed for next week & the Daleks

    August 23rd, 2014 - 9:33pm

Eh. Yeah, it wasn’t bad as far as opening episodes go, but some openers were better.

Capaldi was quite good, but I’m not completely sold yet (hey, it’s only episode 1!). It had it’s moments which were funny (Strax as usual is a laugh), but Vastra being all Batman and Serious was kinda over-the-top. The villains weren’t great, but hey, first episode monsters normally aren’t great, but I found them functional if nothing else.

Overall: I’ve seen better series openers, but it was consistent throughout, but I feel with some changes it could have been a great one, not just average. 6/10

I wish the opening music had not changed, don’t like the new version of what has become a classic sound for all Dr Who fans, as for the new doctor i’m not sure? have to watch a few more.

Easily the best doctor debut episode ever, absolutely superb, loved every minute of it. I am really intrigued by the story arc that is being put into place too. And the appearance by matt at the end put the icing on the cake. 10/10
