August 24th, 2014 - 12:12amActually this version of the theme has a bass line far closer to the original 1963 one than Matt Smiths’ barely recognisable version…

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:58pmlike i said at the end of the time of the doctor, his intro was too much like matt smiths entrance, confused and erratic.

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:57pmHated the innuendo, completely pointless. Why ? The dinosaur was a very tenious story thread,at best. After the pathetic buffooning around of Matt Smith’s Doctor, which blighted that era, and that shown in this Post Regeneration story, perhaps this sort of thing will now become a thing of the past. Peter Capaldi is a fantastic actor, I hope, as his Doctor progresses. we can continue to see some weight, gravitas and authority back into proceedings. As an episode, it wasn’t too bad. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:48pmWell Capaldi did say it will take around Episode 6 and 7 until we get to know his Doctor

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:30pmDeep Breath has become my favourite series opener to date.
Peter Capaldi has proven to me that he is simply a fantastic Doctor, and I’m sure he’s got lots more to show. The clockwork creatures (Im still not 100%, were they the Clockwork Droids from the 10th Doctor era? I’m sure they were) were great and scary as well too. Loved the newspaper scene with Clara and Strax 10/10

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:30pmI love, love, love Mr Capaldi. We’re back to the more “mature” and crabby Doctor of my youth and he’s fabulous anyway. I thought the episode was silly though and a bit disappointing but there were flashes of brilliance. It may be I was a little too excited about the first episode so had set myself up for disappointment. True fans will stick with it. Well done Mr C

The Half-Faced Man might have jumped, that’s why it was kept ambiguous…

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:17pmI thought the age thing was well written, and put fangirls (and boys) firmly in their place, without becoming distracting

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:15pmMusic: I love cats, but they can’t sing. It hurt my ears.
Story: Victorian Britain …again…we are not amused.
The Doctor: …let the dice roll, see what turns up.
A view: initial disappointment, wait until next season for a better feel and theme music.

Capaldi:
AWESOME
A brilliant and fantastically different, yet familiar, Doctor
Very well acted
10/10
Everyone else:
All amazing, well done!
10/10
Story:
Well written all round, and with a slower, less crammed, yet still exciting pace – much more like the classic series
A nice transision from 11 slapstick to a new, much darker tone (which is great)
10/10
Overall:
SUPERB!

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:07pmI Loved this ep!
Amazing start to Capaldi’s tenure!!!
Breakdown:
Title sequence and theme:
Brilliant! I see I’m alone in thinking this, but I don’t care –
The theme finally got back the original 1963 bassline with a nice twist, unlike the barely recognisable Matt Smith theme
And the title sequence was fresh and original, compared to endless versions of the time vortex that went before
10/10

Not Happy
August 23rd, 2014 - 11:05pmNo, no, no, no…….as much as I wanted to like Capaldi he was just awful. His acting was terrible as though he was trying too hard to be liked. Matt Smith is the best doctor and Moffatt needs to persuade him to come back or the show is going down the drain. Gutted.

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:03pmbut yes, the show itself was OUTSTANDING. Just pure brilliance!! As I read Steven Moffat say in DWM, I did notice the little hark backs to ‘Robot’ which I liked and the little bit at the end which was like 9 and Rose talking about chips, loved it. The pace was different as well, obviously down to the longer length of the episode, much more drawn out which I loved and it had time for each character to breathe and expand on their feelings on this ‘new doctor’.

August 23rd, 2014 - 11:00pmI’m not overly keen on the new title sequence or title music… I hope that over time it will grow on me. I think it’s far TOO different to Matt’s last title sequence, and although I know that it’s all about change and moving forward, I feel like they hit the nail on the head with the last one… it was the best titles and music of the 21st century series by a long shot 🙂

August 23rd, 2014 - 10:58pmAbsolutely brilliant! What an outstanding start to Capaldi’s era, He kept the Scottish accent, he was hilarious and so many Easter egg’s. It was absolute brilliant to see a small part that included Matt. I thought it was outstanding.. So much complexity in time travel, there’s a plethora of things that you can do in that show. for a 56 year old man, he’s very energetic. Can’t wait for Episode 2 Into The Dalek!

August 23rd, 2014 - 10:42pmThought it was a very childish start, though perhaps children wouldn’t get the innuendo. The end was better & hopefully it’ll get a bit darker with the new doctor as time passes. Why didn’t the Beeb keep the original concept intro by Billy Hanshaw, far superior to the messed around version. Ditch it & run with original, you’ve got time before next week.

August 23rd, 2014 - 10:37pmDeep breath ,after all the hype and the long wait finally it’s here, what a disappointment , Victorian London that old chestnut ! All the computer graphics in the world and we get old smokey again . Please give us some decent futuristic settings I’m fed up with the same old same old locations .

August 23rd, 2014 - 10:35pmI didn’t like the opening sequence, the tardis looked liked it had been added as an after thought. PC looks like he going to bring a new dimension but the episode felt like we kept being told its the same old doctor just a new face and its all going to be ok so don’t complain just yet, or was that just me? Great to see Matt Smith stole the show for me. Looking forward to seeing how the story goes

August 23rd, 2014 - 10:30pmMediocre, confused and slow. A pedestrian pace and a hard sell on the age thing. Put the Lizard in the Tardis she kicks ass.
