What Did You Think of Journey / Centre of the Tardis?
Doctor Who Journey to the Centre of the Tardis
The Tardis is captured by a spaceship salvage team, sending its systems into meltdown.
As the Doctor introduces himself to the motley crew of galactic rag-and-bone men, he realises Clara is still trapped within his malfunctioning ship, so he persuades his new acquaintances to help find his companion, taking them deep into the heart of his beloved blue box.
But their hopes of a straightforward rescue are dashed when it turns out Clara is not the only one down there. Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman star, with Ashley Walters (Inside Men).
Now that the 5th episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.
McGann is the Doctor
May 15th, 2013 - 12:53pmI thought it was a truly amazing story and enjoyed it far more than any since the Bells of St John.
A very well thougth out, atmospheric, unpredictable and scary episode.
Many people hate the lack of a classic tardis console room (they’re right ❗ ) but the thing about the brothers and the story being reset, that was fine by me ❗
Harold Saxon
May 4th, 2013 - 7:52pmI thought it was awesome, the exploration of the tardis and the way the ship functions,it was cool and clever.

DOCTOR WHO ONE
May 2nd, 2013 - 3:22pmIt was the Doctor’s.
Funny thou that he ended up outside the Tardis, yet Clara ended up somewhere else in the Tardis.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
May 2nd, 2013 - 5:04pmi thought that was a bit silly. and how did he climb out of the rubble so quickly and quietly?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
May 2nd, 2013 - 5:10pmI think the Doctor might posses a strange Time Lord power we may not be quite familiar with that allows him to shift out of things when unseen.
For example, in ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, he and Ace are borrowing a Van, and he becomes annoyed of her not concentrating on her driving while trying to pay attention to him.
She says “I’m doing the best I can, if you don’t ,like it, you drive”, and as they enter a tunnel, then come out the other end, and his the one doing the driving, leaving Ace baffled as to how the swapped places so quickly, so maybe the Doctor has a power that let’s him swap places in the blink of an eye fast when no ones looking, or perhaps in this case, get out of rubble without making a sound.
He seemed to use the same power too when getting into Grace Holloway’s car in the TV Movie without her even noticing he’d got in the back.

May 3rd, 2013 - 7:50amDoctor Who one, that’s Awesome! I never knew that! Though I imagine that it’s a skill as opposed to a power. 🙂

McGann is the Doctor
May 15th, 2013 - 12:55pmAlex that would have made a sound, and I agree DWONE.
But how did he end up OUTSIDE the Tardis in the first place ? ❗

April 21st, 2014 - 11:52amClara, because the TARDIS was so damaged, it was leaking out the bigger on the inside, so the sensor thought she was under the TARDIS when really she was still onboard.
Thats my theory

May 2nd, 2013 - 3:37amI enjoyed this. Ever since Castovalva I loved exploring the Tardis. Good to see a proper Tardis pool also and not the dodgy ‘real’ pool seen in the Invasion of Time. I think the continuity of the eye of Harmony is muddled a bit and probably best not dwelt on too much. In the novel the 8 doctors by Terrance Dicks it said the Tardis eye wasn’t the real one, just a copy of the one on Gallifrey. No reason why there can’t be one on gallifrey and one in each Tardis. Makes you wonder but – when the Tractators pulled the Tardis apart in Frontios what happened to the eye?

DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 29th, 2013 - 4:50pmAnyone else confused about the appearance of the Eye of Harmony appearing in this story ?.
It just seems odd to see it back cos the Tardis had a link to the Eye of Harmony in the Cloister Room [The TV Movie] with the eye itself under the floor of the Panopticon on Gallifrey [The Deadly Assassin], yet the eye surely should not exist because Gallifrey was destroyed in the Time War, surely therefore the eye was destroyed too, and the Doctor has since been using alternative sources of power, such as the Cardiff rift, to refuel the engines of the Tardis, yet the eye itself is now in the Tardis.
Maybe he saved it somehow, or his trying to create one in the Tardis and just named it after the original, or to put it simply, the writer of the story did not follow continuity, which has been known to happen at times.

May 8th, 2013 - 4:14pmwell if the eye was destroyed, didn’t the doctor say something about how in the great time war he ended it himself, possible by creating a singularity in Gallifrey and ending the war by turning his home planet into a new eye of harmony? for his own ends (the sliver of ice in his heart)

DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 29th, 2013 - 4:53pmI like Clara. She’s interesting and a bit funny in my view.
I had hoped modern Clara was going to be a lot like her ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ counterpart, being flirty and all that, cos it made her very funny and likeable for me.
Just ignore the haters. Their fools.
Dalek The Supreme
May 1st, 2013 - 5:12amI think Clara’s great so far. I liked her in Asylum of the Daleks and The Snowmen. I wasn’t sure about her in The Bells of St. John, but The Rings of Akhaten quickly changed my mind! I think it’s because I like Clara that I plan on collecting the 3.75 inch figures.

May 4th, 2013 - 10:38pmShe’s probably a time traveller or the doctor from the future of something, you can see Moffat coming up with something like that. He can be pretty strange.
morlu
April 29th, 2013 - 10:41amIt was ok but wasn’t what I was expecting or hoping for. Ever since I saw the newly regenerated 5th Doctor unravel the 4th Doctor’s scarf and use it as a way not to get lost in the Tardis, when he still hadn’t settled in his new body. I have always wanted to see an episode where he explores parts of the Tardis that he never dared go in case he never found his way back. As it is supposedly infinite.
Big D
May 4th, 2013 - 12:04pmI quite agree morlu. In the end I was disappointed with the representation. It reminded me more of Star Trek than Doctor Who. Also it was a great opportunity to link with ‘The Movie’ but sadly messed – sorry, missed – it. I guess though it just sums up how Ive felt about New Who. Disappointed. Just hope they can rekindle this old mans faith with the 50th special.

April 28th, 2013 - 10:32pmThe issue I have with Doctor Who, at the moment, is either Matt Smith or the way the actor has been told to portray The Doctor. Drama is substituted with dim-witted Jar Jar Binks-esque reactions, and any hope of weight and gravity in dialogue is ruined by Matt Smith(or The Doctor) sounding like a 12 year old stamping his or her feet. Not for me, I’m afraid.

Professor When
April 29th, 2013 - 3:49pmWhile I can see your opinion, and I respect it, I have to disagree. I think the Doctor is being portrayed brilliantly at the moment. You really get a sense of age, and there is a sense of vulnerability perfectly balanced with an air of Alien-esque wonder. Even then there Matt Smith adds another atribute to the lot- he is a bad-ass. Even with some Childish reactions, when the Doctor is Angry, monsters run.
But yeah, I do see your point, even though I don’t agree 🙂

RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
May 1st, 2013 - 7:39pmi do agree with 47 in some areas, as the reason i liked the 10th doc was because he was serious, nice and had the occasional laugh too. it really annoyed me when the doc was found with a barbie doll. that just struck me as 5 year old girl.
Big D
May 4th, 2013 - 12:12pmI agree 100% with 47. Though I didnt like David Tennant either. I didnt mind Christopher Eccleston though for me you cant beat the first 4 Doctors. Guess I’m just a bit of a dinosaur really.
I also think that Clara is the best of the new companions (cannot stick Rose)but cant beat Sarah Jane or Jo. I just dont want any more soppy, lovey dovey carrying-ons.
Also not impressed with alot of the writing. Theyre making Doctor Who too childish. (I know its a family show and was devised for kids but its getting ridiculous). Like I say, I guess I’m just a dinosaur.
Scott the Raptor
May 28th, 2013 - 8:29pmI agree 100 % with 47. Professor When, 47 already mentioned that Matt Smith’s Doctor is so comedic and how he sounds like a 12 year old stamping their feet. That doesn’t show any age. I liked David Tennant’s Doctor because he could show fear, excitement and energeticness at the same time.

DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 29th, 2013 - 3:16pmYeah saw that – I don’t think he would do such a thing. The Doctor respects his female companion’s, he wouldn’t do anything that would be considered inappropriate behavior like giving Clara a smack on the bottom.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 29th, 2013 - 3:21pmOk just had a quick look at the ending on BBC IPlayer, FINE, HE DID GIVE HER A BIT OF A SMACK ON THE BUTT WITH THE CLOTH.
BIG DEAL !!. At least it was with a Cloth rather then using one of his hand’s, otherwise then it would have been inappropriate.
And in fairness to the guy saying that I don’t pay enough attention, my eyes where focused on the TV screen entirely, it’s just that our eyes don’t notice every single detail first time around that’s all, cos it take time for our brains to process what we are seeing through our eyes if you did not already know that.

July 22nd, 2014 - 5:22amI definantly saw him do that. I watched it over a few times and even if he did miss it was clear he meant to. But when I saw it the first time, for some odd reason, I couldn’t stop laughing. Not like the doctor to do that. Then again in a later episode he does mention that her skirt is just a little bit too…tight.

April 28th, 2013 - 6:47pmI hate stories that get resolved by pushing the reset button, in this case literally!
But, wouldn’t Clara still remember his name? Amy remembers killing Kovarian , Martha and Jack remember the rule of the Master and the Toclafane.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 28th, 2013 - 7:02pmThe only reason why Martha, her family, the Doctor and Jack remember the Master rule in what became known as ‘the year that never was’ is only remembered by them because they where inside the Valiant when time was reversed back to the day the Master’s rule over Earth began, so to anyone who watched the introduction of the Tochlafane anywhere in the world, all they saw was President Winter’s getting killed and that was it.
As for Amy remembering killing Kovarian, I’m not sure, that finale of series 6 confused the hell out of me.
Time was altered in yesterdays episode when the Doctor gave that button to the recent version of himself at the start of the episode, so the events of the episode suddenly never happened, meaning Amy never saw that book with his name inside, as she never went to the Library once the events where avoided.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 28th, 2013 - 7:03pmI mean Clara never saw the book, not Amy.

April 28th, 2013 - 11:16pmThe reason they were burnt and dead was because they were the result of what would happen if they all stayed in the room with the eye of harmony hence the Doctor saying ‘after a couple of minutes, the skin will start to melt’ its all Wibbly wobbly timey wimey
matfav
April 28th, 2013 - 11:33amAll in all an okay episode, however, no progression of clara’s mystery or personality. She is very plastic and look like she is only a pretty face, come on writers get with the program.
I hate how again it is saved and wrapped up in the last minute, I feel robbed of an intelligent ending. On intelligence, I feel the script was over cerebral, confusing and too easily treated the audience as morons, again writers, “we can think and work things out for ourselves.” Leave a little mystery and stop wrapping it up in a bow!
As for the Doctor, you would think he knew the Tardis better. All boils down to the writing and knowing the who universe.
Look the actors do a stellar job. The writing has to treat the audience as intelligent otherwise it fails.

Richard Cave
April 28th, 2013 - 10:59amThis was a a very weak episode, I have a suspicion that this was a budget episode, where its based in three sets using a lot of stuff from previous episodes redesigned. Also the corridors around the tardis were not very well designed, have you seen Gallifrean headress. The whole timey wimey thing was annoying, the mechanical replication room was good visually. Clara is annoying, far too clever and her Mary Poppins nature is grating. The libary was done on the cheap from a back to back shoot. This episode was a let down. As for the three brothers hated them to bits, cruel and nasty characters hoping for a extremely painful demise to them. I was bored on this episode and there is a danger of Americanisation, the script was not very good.
Cold war was good, as was Bells of St john, and The Cold War was good. These back to back episodes done on the cheap let the show down. Upside is that the money saved on this episode hopefully gets used on another episode.
BBC not your best!
