What Did You Think of Nightmare in Silver?

What Did You Think of Nightmare in Silver?

Hedgewick’s World of Wonders was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.

When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes. The Cybermen are back

Now that the 7th episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.

All I’m saying is, I’m not a fan of New Who or Classic Who, I am a fan of Doctor Who, plain and simple.

My opinion has improved, I give it a 7/10 now. It did succeed in making the Cybermen threatening again, and the whole story reminded me of Tomb of the Cybermen without being too similar. Also, the Doctor’s comments about the Cybermen’s weaknesses to cleaning fluid and gold proves that these are the Cybermen who hailed from Mondas. And Big D, if they’re going to have children in the story, then they should give them something to do.

There’s a difference between cowardly and strategically intelligent. They wouldn’t have wanted to unnecessarily lose Daleks when they had more mobile clone troopers to send instead reason, and the Dalek begged for mercy in The Big Bang was because it knew it was the last Dalek left, and without it, the Daleks would be extinct.

They had a weakness to certain cleaning fluids and gold like the Mondasians, weaknesses that haven’t been seen in the Cybus Industries versions. That implies these Cybermen do hail from Mondas.

I want to see the Cybermen enter a full-scale war with the Daleks now that the salt shakers have a space armada again.

the thing that scared me the most about the new cybermen was the fact that it could movve really, really fast.

I’m sure it wasn’t just me, but was there a clue in the doctor’s mind when it showed his regenerations? It showed all the doctors in a row, but when the 11th should have appeared you saw a “regeneration” effect and then the 11th doctor after that… It makes me wonder whether Smith is really the 12th doctor and the 11th is to be revealed?

No matter how bad Doctor who, i’m still faithful to it. And i’ll try to watch every episode. I mean its still an intelligent show, just be glad Moffat didn’t turn it into a great big outer space Jersey Shore or something.

Okay, the series needs a serious regeneration and reboot simply because the writing lets everybody down. Can any kid get a ride in the Tardis care of the companion without explanation or reserve from the dr? The Cyber-men were clever, but the dr is really really dumb. The writers process of appealing to kids simply looses 98% of the rest of their loyal fan base is even dumber. When you have one dimensional script writing in a multidimensional universe it leads to a big F fail). We deserve better.

I loved the episode and I agree that they should’ve spoke more, but at least they don’t say ‘Delete’ all the time anymore, it’s starting to get annoying now.
P.S. I love the new cyberman voice!

The previous Doctor feared a process that he’s gone through 9 times before. The current Doctor chased the Atraxi off a planet and called them back for a scolding, rebooted the whole universe, came back from nonexistence, tricked a species into giving the order for it’s own extinction, survived the most terrifying and insane Daleks of all time. Just saying. Also, the Doctor is great and powerful and mighty and intelligent, but he’s not perfect. Back before the Time War, most other Time Lords saw him as a rebel and a joke. And if you don’t like the companion saving the day. then you either forget or don’t realize the point of the companion is to give the human instincts and intuition the Doctor lacks.

So the new Cybermen are Star Trek Borg or more ridiculous. Also is anyone else wondering when Dr. Who became Dr. Who’s Companions? I am a little tired of it being the companions blundering into the solution or figuring it out for the Doctor. He is supposed to be this brilliant being that has been alive for 1,000 years and seen the Universe. Yet it is the little girl that provides them with the solution. Too often the Dr. has no clue what to do or how to help. The previous Dr. could save a genetically altered pig man from dying by “fixing” his DNA. The current Dr. wouldn’t know what to do if someone had a hangnail.

Richard I applaud your post. I honestly couldnt have put it better myself. Its like you read my mind. Your views reflect mine exactly. My family cant understand why I still watch it but having watched every Doctor since 1963 I feel obliged to continue. I think they feel sorry for me when, after every episode now, I have that look of disappointment.
I like Clara though and really hope they dont start down that lovey dovey, sentamentalist road that theyve gone down with every companion since it restarted.
Lets get back to a stronger, older, darker Doctor who has strong writing behind him rather than glossy effects with little or no substance.

Well said Radburn. Much overused and in some pretty dire stories too – which is unforgiveable. I did like the speed of the cyberman though. That was a good upgrade.
The story itself could have been good. The basis was there but the execution was poor. It felt rushed, jumpy, unfinished and too much of a story crammed into one episode. I feel it would have helped itself to be spread out over two episodes. The kids were dire (what was the point?), the ‘soldiers’ were weak and annoying, whilst the Doctor overacted. I must admit I do like Clara though (and not just because shes so attractive). I found myself thinking that it would be good if she was really Susan (not that it’ll happen)and could hang around a bit.
Did anyone else get the impression that they could be setting up a regeneration?

The kids did nothing? Surely thats a good thing. I dont know why the producers etc insist on having them. Very irritating.

I think this way was a quick upgrade, just to get them to fight for them, I hope we see a full upgrade though. I find they are scarier when they are on earth, walking down normal streets, into normal homes, it makes you feel it could happen in real life!
