What Did You Think of Nightmare in Silver?

What Did You Think of Nightmare in Silver?

Hedgewick’s World of Wonders was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.

When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes. The Cybermen are back

Now that the 7th episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.

Nightmare in Silver is the best example that Matt Smith is a TERRIBLE actor. Many actors have done an “evil twin” version of a character they play, and Smith’s attempt at such is so unbelievably bad it’s cringe-worthy. While possessed by the Cyberman programming the Doctor appears neither different nor evil, despite Smith obviously trying to be so.

      April 13th, 2014 - 4:47pm

I am afraid you are wrong

Matt smith is one of the best actors who ever lived in every episode he played the doctor , he gave a ground breaking performance and in nightmare in silver he gave another amazing performance and I would like to see you try to do what he dose

And if he was a terrible actor then why would he get countless awards

      So you are wrong 🙂

I agree with MCA. I think he’s a good actor but his attempts to play an evil version of the character in Nightmare in Silver failed.

I think matt played the doctor in nightmare in silver very well

And matt has got a lot of prase for this role

The new cybermen s head looks werid anybody who agrees respond

    May 18th, 2013 - 11:18am

The worst cyberman story ever, the kids were annoying the doctor at points was annoying and it didn’t make any sense.

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:58am

It was a fantastic episode but I have to agree the kids were lame. Everything else was terrific. Also the cybermen’s new heads look a lot like the Tomb of the Cybermen, which I found particularly odd.

  • Obsie

    May 16th, 2013 - 10:41pm

Seemed far too silly and superfluous, more of a downgrade than an upgrade. The children were irritating, especially the girl who said she was bored ( she was not the only one). However, if I was whisked away in a blue box bored would not be the first reaction I would come out with. Overall it seemed a sloppy addition to the season, which seems to be the trend at the moment. I really would like things to go back to the sharper and more exciting, atmospheric stories of its relaunch.

  • John Smith

    May 15th, 2013 - 5:02pm

Terrible episode! The cybermen are less scary than ever before, the speed of upgrade was ridiculous, the freedom of movement was awful. In fact the only thing that was an improvement was the fact that they moved really quickly. Also the children were terrible actors and the doctor overacted!

      May 20th, 2013 - 6:55pm

I prefer the paralel cybermen from Pete s world

I actually thought “Nightmare in Silver” was a good episode. Mainly because Matt Smith’s acting in this ep was astonishing, I applaud him! I think he did an amazing job.

    May 14th, 2013 - 7:46pm

did they really look for the worst child acters in the WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      May 20th, 2013 - 6:57pm

They must have rushed because the children did a very bad job.

  • Mad Dalek

    May 14th, 2013 - 2:10pm

Seen better , This season is worst by far, lack of thrills, bad acting, rubbish endings, and monsters being turned into camp panto vilians. Matt smith’s dr did start off good but he’s turned into a bit of a clown. I won’t be itching to see the next season, Seems that S. Moffet has killed the series off instead of darking it

its good to know im not the only one who thinks so

    • McGann is the Doctor

      May 15th, 2013 - 12:59pm

Turned into a clown ? Have you seen his first story ? He was nothing BUT a clown in that story, and for the most part of that season.

Only with the 2011 series did the character of his Doctor really start to work and the “clowning” actually get funny :p

  • TMD

    May 14th, 2013 - 1:58pm

This has been the worst season i’ve seen, Daleks who care for the sick, bad acting, bad scripts and monsters what have been turned into jokes…… it’s what happened to the Borg in Voyager. disappointment all round, seen better entertainment in the Sooty show

    • outnumbered

i agree with this so much

A dissapointing return of the Cybermen with some of the WORST acting I think I’ve ever seen since the re-boot of Doctor Who. Tamzin & the kids were awful

    May 13th, 2013 - 8:54pm

I really wish the Cybermen would say Delete!!! 🙁

I don’t agree, because Russel.T.Davis introduced that phrase, when in the classic series the cybermen most commonly said “eradicate them!”

    May 13th, 2013 - 7:44pm

I thought this was a brilliant episode , but also there could be some changes that could of made it better.

    • davros (with control of the time vortex)

      May 19th, 2013 - 2:45pm

yeah but they could of made iy better by killing the children to make a good twist

      May 20th, 2013 - 6:59pm

That would have been a good idea you are a genius

  • slayersamelia

    May 13th, 2013 - 12:52pm

I’m sure it wasn’t just me, but was there a clue in the doctor’s mind when it showed his regenerations? It showed all the doctors in a row, but when the 11th should have appeared you saw a “regeneration” effect and then the 11th doctor after that… It makes me wonder whether Smith is really the 12th doctor and the 11th is to be revealed?

  • matfav

    May 13th, 2013 - 9:41am

Okay, the series needs a serious regeneration and reboot simply because the writing lets everybody down. Can any kid get a ride in the Tardis care of the companion without explanation or reserve from the dr? The Cyber-men were clever, but the dr is really really dumb. The writers process of appealing to kids simply looses 98% of the rest of their loyal fan base is even dumber. When you have one dimensional script writing in a multidimensional universe it leads to a big F fail). We deserve better.

  • Lancescott70

    May 12th, 2013 - 11:45pm

So the new Cybermen are Star Trek Borg or more ridiculous. Also is anyone else wondering when Dr. Who became Dr. Who’s Companions? I am a little tired of it being the companions blundering into the solution or figuring it out for the Doctor. He is supposed to be this brilliant being that has been alive for 1,000 years and seen the Universe. Yet it is the little girl that provides them with the solution. Too often the Dr. has no clue what to do or how to help. The previous Dr. could save a genetically altered pig man from dying by “fixing” his DNA. The current Dr. wouldn’t know what to do if someone had a hangnail.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      May 13th, 2013 - 1:02am

The previous Doctor feared a process that he’s gone through 9 times before. The current Doctor chased the Atraxi off a planet and called them back for a scolding, rebooted the whole universe, came back from nonexistence, tricked a species into giving the order for it’s own extinction, survived the most terrifying and insane Daleks of all time. Just saying. Also, the Doctor is great and powerful and mighty and intelligent, but he’s not perfect. Back before the Time War, most other Time Lords saw him as a rebel and a joke. And if you don’t like the companion saving the day. then you either forget or don’t realize the point of the companion is to give the human instincts and intuition the Doctor lacks.

      May 20th, 2013 - 7:04pm

Yeah but every series in the last episode it s mostly about the companion than the doctor e.g series 1 Rose , series 2 Rose , series 3 Martha , series 4, Donna , series 5 Amy , series 6 a little doctor and a little river and series 7 Clara

    • TheSmartestH0B0

      May 18th, 2013 - 1:04pm

The episode was Ok to say the least, yet I didn’t feel exited by it at all. Niel Gaiman, the writer let the fans down because he wrote “The Doctors Wife” in 2011, and that was fantastic, but it wasn’t the same this time round. Also the children’s acting was horrendous, and I didn’t think the Cybermen were given a good enough part to play, like “Closing Time”, the Cybermen were taken for granted. I also think Gaiman got inspiration for the battle of chess through the mind from the three doctors as Omega’s slave and him fought, hand to hand in their heads. The Cybermites were an interesting idea, but I still prefer the old Cybermats which could poison you with venom, but Matt Smith and Warwick Davies made a good duet in acting. The newer Cybermen episodes seem to lack what they used to be, I’m still waiting for a episode similar to those of “The Tomb of the Cybermen” and “Earthshock”

  • dr doak

i thought the cyberman episode was great i believe it gave a great example and introduction to the new ones it was also great to see some old cybermen aswell

    May 12th, 2013 - 1:16pm

Hey guys Niel Gaiman said he wanted to make this one like THE TOOM OF THE CYBERMEN and he did because the toombs looked the same only in colour and bigger and also at the end when the planet blew up a CYBERMITE survived and when the toombs were destoyed IN TOOM OF THE CYBERMEN a CYBERMAT survived.

    • i am the 1 and only!

      May 12th, 2013 - 2:04pm

I think the cybermen noticed the bomb and teleported and the ship with the beepy noise was the cybership.

    May 12th, 2013 - 12:04pm

In my opinion it would have been better if they showed them upgrading people into proper Cybermen. That’s what was scary about them, the upgrading and forcing someone to become emotionless. If they had that in I feel like it would be better.

    • Anonymous

      May 12th, 2013 - 4:05pm

I think this way was a quick upgrade, just to get them to fight for them, I hope we see a full upgrade though. I find they are scarier when they are on earth, walking down normal streets, into normal homes, it makes you feel it could happen in real life!

      May 20th, 2013 - 7:19pm

That is not a quick upgrade thier like those spoonhead things in the bells st john they just stand there Normally they become cybermen real quick e.g series 2 episode 6 the age of steel jackie tyler is upgraded proper quick

  • Sebatron

    May 12th, 2013 - 11:59am

One of the best episodes ever!!!
It was brilliant to see the new cyber-men and they were much better than I thought they would be. It was also to see inside the Doctor’s mind. I loved how at the end there was a single cyber-mite that was still alive, so the cyber-men aren’t completely extinct.
    I loved it!

  • Da Big Friendly Button

    May 12th, 2013 - 11:46am

Compared to Closing Time, this episode is far better in every respect. I like the idea of the cybermen upgrading themselves, especially where they can adapt to different obsticles, makes me think the Daleks will have their work cut out for them.
As a fan of the Cybermen I love the new design, though I am afraid this makes the old cybermen feel like old news now. But then I guess they take their place with the other cybermen bofore them and become classic cybermen.

And I loved the new cybermen, to upgrade whenever there is an problem is a great idea, and the scene with the cyberman running whilt everyone was in slow motion was genius! Which is why Dalek:the Supreme I think it would be the makings of a great story if the Daleks are having to take it as much(if not more) than they dish it out because these Cybermen are more of a threat. Then we see how really resourceful they can or have to be.

In the original series as you probably know they were nearly made extinct in their war which was otherwise stalemated for centuries with the android Movellans because the Movellans developed a virulent anti Dalek virus. And what in series canon happened to the Movellans?
