That’s exactly what I thought! I just wouldn’t be Moffat if he didn’t acknowledge the Valyard on screen. When I heard that Kris Marshall had ‘apparantly’ started filming, I thought he had been cast as Valyard.

And anyway, wouldn’t everyone like to keep their dark side in a vault! Locked away, so no one can ever see it. With Nardoles safe hands!

I welcome it, everybody knows that world is not all white and programs have a duty to reflect that and appeal to every type of person. The Doctor and Bill visit a time where slavery is still a thing and so it had to be referenced due to Bill being black. I think it was important they had that as it allowed us to see the more human side to a Bill and how far we’ve come since the 1800’s. It’s good to remind people that things weren’t so fine and dandy in the past and ignoring it would be an insult.

All I saw was an horrendous racist character get what was coming to them, nothing more.

I see someone is triggered. If you knew anything about history, you’d know that it isn’t all sunshine and flowers. I’m not sure if you’re going to get all Holocaust Denial on this, but slavery was actually a real thing you know. Also it’s fiction, politics wasn’t really the point of it. But whatever, enjoying stuffing your tunnel vision politics into everything you see.

Maybe inside the Vault it’s the Doctor himself…The Valeyard!

I thought that this epsiode was excellent full of drama and suspense. I cannot wait to see who is in the vault, my brother thinks that it is the master in there only time will tell.

    Yeah, I agree with this.

    Thanks, Doc.
Teach folk that covert racism is the way to go if you’re going to be a racist.
Let them all smile at Bill in public and then discriminate against her in private. Problem solved!
Apart from forcing that half-baked notion into the ep, the story was ok, I guess.

Also, the Doctor is male, so a male punch a male is supporting the SJW movement?

Offended? Not at all. I’m just slightly confused by your comment actually. As stated near the start, racism was quite a problem in 1814 and, in my eyes, the script reflected that. Doctor Who does have a history with dealing with issues like that in its stories and I don’t see why it should stop now.

I love the 12th Doctor and still feel he has been delt with poor to average stories with very few gems here and there.
This series so far has yet to change that pattern as far as solid stories go.
All 3 are some what return to ideas we have seen time and time again.
Having said that what is a huge leap forward for this incarnation of the Doctor is the relationship and character work between him and his companion Bill.
After viewing the teaser introducing Bill to fans,I feard I was going to be annoyed by her character. Im so pleased to of had a complete 180 on that assumption. Pearl Mackie and the writers surporting her charcter has made Bill the best thing to happen to this Doctor in Capaldi’s run so far. If this continues I will be very sad to see their partnership end come christmas.

Random Critic you’re obviously one of these people who get offended at everything

    Ummmmm… No

  • The Outcast

    April 30th, 2017 - 2:48am

I didn’t think it was saying ‘all whites are racist’, rather I thought it was just saying racism was bad, which it is.

I really just watch this for the sci-fi, for the escapism.
If they want to put in their “references to racism”, then at least integrate it better into the actual story and not use it for unsubtle virtue signalling. As someone whose ethnic origin is that of a Black African, I find it all a bit cringe worthy and I do feel slightly sorry for white people that have to put up with it.

Now let’s see that queue of the easily offended line up to call me an uncle tom or aunt jemima or whatever the term is these days.

Really liked it, also like how you can watch the first 3 episodes as one continuous movie, really good idea

Good grief! Can’t even watch a bit of sci-fi without being beaten over the head with SJW nonsense at every turn. Please tell us again how white people are all terrible, especially the males, and feel free to use violence against one of them to make your point.

By the way, who’s pumping the air?

And “melanin”, what melanin? Oh, you mean the melanin that dark-skinned people have and you obviously don’t possess much of, Bill, to make slavery an immediate threat to your safety. Apart from rich white men, obviously, that can guess your genealogy just by looking at you. Oops!

There’s still no-one pumping the air.

Hey, Mr fish-pie seller, did you not learn how to run away properly when you were in school? My mistake, that was some “plot-convenience” running away. It’s very easy to confuse the two, apparently.

There are enough films around that show the pumping. How do they miss that?

The universe really does become a smaller place with every episode I’ve watched of this lately. Never mind. Another episode, on Earth again, to nitpick next week.

Really loving the series so far, was surprised they allowed the kid to be killed! Though the bigwigs at the beeb would have balked at that. But very good so far. Not convinced the master is in the vault as it seems to obvious but we’ll soon see. Oh, and if we are having a multi-master story I would love to have the decayed Geoffrey beevers version back, the new audience needs to hear that chilling voice he brought to the role. Big finish proved how good he is so I say bring him back as Well!

I agee, she did an amazing job of wrapping up Clara’s story only to have it all unravel again two episodes later unfortunately

I really liked this episode, the cgi isn’t going to win any awards but I liked the character development, usually in moffats era the character development domiantes the episode and the episode wraps up too quickly and it all feels a bit rushed but for the past three weeks it’s worked with a great balance between character development and plot. I loved the children as well and the references to racism i think that was important for the episode to highlight especially at the moment. All in all I think that was my favorite this series

The Return of Doctor Mysterio – 8/10
    The Pilot – 6/10
    Smile – 8/10
    Thin Ice – 8/10

I must say that, so far, this has been a huge step up from Series 9. Capaldi’s great as always, the writing (on the whole) seems to have improved, Bill’s been a much better companion in three episodes than Clara was in three years…..the year off really seems to have helped. (:

Really loved this episode! Great story, Sarah Dollard can come back anytime she likes in my opinion! So far this series has been great even if last week’s did have a bit of a cop-out ending

Nah it can’t be the Adric, even the Doctor would not be that careless enoougth to risk releasing Adric. Imagine all the trouble he could cause by failing to use mechs with lasers again.

  • Dalek Eye Stalk

    April 29th, 2017 - 9:12pm

That’s why he was knocking…Adric just wanted to know “was he right” …that’s all. Then he would go back happily into the Vault. 🙂

  • The Dalek Whovian

    April 29th, 2017 - 9:06pm

But the question is did Adric know he was right?
