I completely agree with you. I think the last 5 minutes let the episode down.

It was ok. Probably around a 6/10, though it would have been higher if they didn’t resurrect Bill. Speaking of which, that entire segment felt really out of place.

An amazing end to an amazing series! Best finale since 2005! Everyone gave great performances, the writing was fab and of course, Capaldi was magnificent as always.

For a while there, this was actually a good episode, even with the Doctor pontificating yet again, to the Master of all people. But that ex-machina infested ending was just pathetic and left many loose ends. How did they get back to the Tardis? What happened to the Master? Will Bill continue the course of study she started at Uni? Will the Doctor still have his job at the University?

There were laughs to be had at the farcical death scenes. It was almost as if there was some competition on to see who could hold a conversation the longest after being killed. Apparently, a Cyberman laser is powerful enough to take out the side of a barn. But the Doctor is left standing, with mild heartburn, after taking two shots of this same laser. Any more laser shots and it would have been a Tums festival.

I still don’t get what’s so bad about being a Cyberman. The new versions don’t look particularly impressive, and I don’t get that teardrop thing with the eye design. Additionally, where are all the intermediate versions of their evolution, if they were evolving? In this ep, they only show the very old and the very new Cyberman versions. The dude that invented the internal combustion engine wasn’t driving around in a Subaru Impreza WRX the day after he invented it. So what gives with these flying Cybermen?

Strange that Bill only stayed for one season. Although she’ll likely make a return. Going by the ending, I foresee many jokes being made relating to comparative Doctor ages and Tardis interior designs.

I’d rather that be Bills ‘after life’ I hated how it was possible to eventually restore her one day so she basically isn’t dead at all we just won’t see her again. Why couldn’t he just kill her it would have been an emotional end and a final end for her after becoming a cyberman

Really, really enjoyed it, really entertaining and a bit of a rollercoaster. Gonna miss episodes that reference things from 50 years ago when Moffat leaves (sounds as though Chibnall won’t do that as much).
I am truly gonna Miss Missy, made me pretty upset seeing her lie there motionless not gonna lie (the other thing that got me to tears was Cyberman Bill walking through the ash to the doctor)
Some things I didn’t quite like (girl with the star in her eye saving the day) but they were easy to forget when looking at all the other things that happen. Other things I didn’t like made sense after a while such as flying Cybermen – they needed to fly to get to the upper floors.
Peter Capaldi was amazing and I’m so excited to see him with the first doctor, makes me wonder what William Hartnell would think if he was alive today.

Had to smile when Missy took the dematerialisation circuit from The Master, it was exactly the same (apart from size) as in Terror of the Autons.

Whished we had seen master into Missy regeneration and at least the outside of his/her tardis. Otherwise a brilliant episode with a great end!!

Cheers Lorraine. In no way am I saying that fans shouldn’t have their say on these forums; I’ve had mine. I just believe some comments posted are completely unjustified.

OMG that was good. Not quite what I expected but pleased that their was explanations as to why there was different versions of cybermen in the episode and that worked perfect!
The scene involving missy and the master killing each other was fitting and the way they both laughed gave me goosebumps! (The master will NEVER die!!!!)
The way that it tied into episode 1 was great and the flashbacks from the companions was brilliant! Very 5th doctor regeneration style
The albeit predictable ending was awesome with David Bradley playing the 1st doctor, likely during his regeneration story vs the mondas cybermen and also the revelation that he also refused to change gave me chills!!!!
    AMAZING fan pleasing episode

Very fair and concise response Ollie. I agree with the points you have made. In many ways Moffat has taken the show to a different more mature level. I sometimes wonder just what those who are complaining expect. However these forums are here so that all may contribute their views which is how it should be I suppose.

Well, I cried. Personally I thought it was brilliant, especially to see the Doctor’s desperate heroism (without hope, without witness, without reward) and the culmination of each key character’s journey in the series.
Also a fantastic cliffhanger, it will be interesting to see how Christmas works out!!

I thought that this finale episode was excellent, there was so much going on, it was sad in one way to see that Bill had died but good in another way knowing that Heather will look after her in the next life. The Master and Missy was on top form in being very devious and only they will kill each other by their own way. I cannot wait until the christmas special to see how it will pan out and who the next doctor will be.

There’s a difference between having a subjective opinion that can be backed up by evidence and relentless whining! I feel my opinions are balanced and fair. There’s been enough good moments in Doctor Who in the last seven years to justify the show’s success. The good outweighs the bad massively. If Steven Moffat was so bad a show runner, you and the others would have switched off long ago during Matt Smith’s era! Instead, you carry on watching and criticise with a view to finding faults with everything he’s done. It’s completely unjustified.

  • When The Doctor Was Me

    July 1st, 2017 - 9:38pm

I really loved this two parter. Bills end is sad but kind of a happy sad. Sad shes gone as she was brilliant. But happy that her soul has lived on.
The cybermen were good if a little underused but still a threat. Just wish they didn’t fly!!!
Missy and The Master were great together, it seems fitting that they ultimately end each others lives. In essense a weird and twisted suicide.
Capaldi just mastered this episode. I felt choked by his words and pain.
Nardole seems to have a fitting end to a harmless character.
Bradleys return was done brilliantly! Though i predicted a continuation of the scene last week as this. I was happy to see it actually happen!

One thing thats bugging me is people online keep saying when the doctor looked as his hand following a quick burst of regeneration energy it was a womans hand. I failed to see this? Did it actually happen?

Doctor 12 doesn’t want to regenerate… he wants to die. He’s not fighting it just because he doesn’t want to change. He’s had enough. Perhaps the final straws were Bill’s conversion & Missy’s apparent betrayal after her progress during her imprisonment. When he wakes he doesn’t know Missy tried to come back to help. He doesn’t know Heather found & saved the essence of Bill if not the human form(I know Heather said she could put Bill back together as human but I choose to ignore that because a) ‘reset buttons’ are annoying & b) I don’t think Bill would ever choose that).
Doctor 12 never expected to exist. The 11th thought he was the last. He had seen his grave on Trenzalore after all. The entirety of series 8 was, to my mind, the Doctor trying to recover from some kind of PTSD after a 900 year war, to find his reason to go on. In To Kill The Moon, for example, he says he might regenerate forever. While he says this in a kinda playful way, he looks to Clara & I think there’s a hint of reproach too.
Doctor 12 isn’t saying he doesn’t want to go, he’s saying he doesn’t want to go on in my opinion.

Great pace and momentum in ‘World Enough and Time’. Uneven pace and momentum in ‘The Doctor Falls’. Makes for a game of two very different halves. I seriously couldn’t believe in that countryside being inside that spaceship. That created a big imbalance and different tone and feel set in ‘World Enough and Time’.

Why bother to bring back the Cybermen, if they are easily defeated or conveniently blown to bits! I was greatly impressed by the threat the Cybermen posed in ‘World Enough and Time’. Only to then be too easily wiped out in ‘The Doctor Falls’. Just when I thought they got the Cybermen right, they go back to being cannon fodder. What a waste.

That was an incredibly strong piece of television! Sure, not perfect, but very impressive!! I did find parts of it a bit…. quiet, but overall I was actually hooked and totally invested!! Would have liked a bit more of the city in chaos scenes at the beginning,as I feared the Master/Missy evil teamup ended fairly quickly but actually took a nice turn in the end!! Strong end to a strong series! And the ending… Ooooh!! Christmas!

It wasn’t just you, we had it as well on Virgin up here just outside Glasgow. I thought it was my surround sound set up doing it as I have had some issues with it recently, but tested on TV speakers and got exactly the same. Was absolutely fuming.

Thought it was ok, not brilliant. A typical finale to multi-part stories of recent years, flat. Best thing about it finally the end of the Moffat era, shudder! I’m surprised a dalek wasnt just written in for no other reason than to be blown up as a kind of ‘mof last request’ but I guess enough damage was done to the daleks in season 9 with the ‘exterminate me’ dalek and whatever the twist was when they say exterminate in that adventure I cant even be bothered to remember the name of because it was that terrible.
