What did You Think of The Return of Doctor Mysterio?

This Christmas sees The Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure.

With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost.

Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

The Surgeon, you might be happy to watch and applaud mediocre stories that we are getting at the moment! I expect better, some of us want this show back to it’s best.
Unlike some I remember only too well the the barren years of no Doctor Who at all on TV, if this poor writing continues we will be back to the dark days.
So it’s not about being miserable, its about want better.. much better.

Is no one talking about the fact that these body stealing brains were in The Husbands Of River Song? I can’t see it mentioned anywhere.
I can see these being long lasting villains, maybe the big bad of series 10?

I agree with your opinion, Series 9 was bad. Some stories were dull (GWD,WWL) or just plain bad (MA/WF (Good davros scenes but everything else was rubbish), HB (Recon this please)).

Was better than expected and now hopefully from about Easter we can get into series 10 and as well as Skaro’s finest being in it there are also reports about maybe the return of the Sea Devils as well. I hope that’s ACTUALLY true!

Series 9 was brilliant for me. No time for people being miserable and expecting everyone else to agree

I agree! I am really not into superheroes and didnt ever think they should cross something like that to Doctor Who but it was ok!

I really enjoyed this episode, I expect writing a Xmas is a thankless task as one is always under pressure to add the usual dumbing down “cheese” but as a one off episode I found it a lot more enjoyable than I expected. A nice pace throughout, well acted good humour, all good.

Absolutely loved it! All four of our family, from the super fan to the barely a fan enjoyed this episode very much. Thanks Stephen Moffett for a job well done.

Honestly? It was better than I expected. I was expecting this to be a really stupid episode, and I was not looking forward to it one bit. And… it was okay. It wasn’t great, or anything, but it had its moments. The supporting characters were likable, and seeing The Ghost shuffle between his secret and superhero identities was amusing. I got a kick out of the Doctor’s reaction to superhero comics, and Nardole had a funny line every now and then. The villains were creepy, and their plan wasn’t half-bad, but they didn’t really leave that much of an impression. The supporting characters were likable, and even if I don’t think that the concept really belongs in Doctor Who, I guess they executed it well enough, and the episode succeeded in what it was setting out to do.

No just no. Found myself waiting for the end. Cheesy, boring, long winded and silly. Come on Moff we know you can do good. Look at Series 5! Why do you progressivly get worse and worse!

    December 26th, 2016 - 1:53pm

And I thought Hell Bent was bad enough! Can it get worse? Apparently it can. I have NO faith in Moffat turning this show around now, he has single handedly torn the shows once great history apart and the fandom along with it.
Season 9 was so bad he should have gone then, the future is bleak I hope the new showrunner can undo the mess Moffat has caused in the last two seasons of this once great show.

Wayne I suggest you prepare for a poor season 10, things won’t change until Moffat has gone. Looking at the new series trailer it looks awful.

  • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

    December 26th, 2016 - 1:00pm

I really thought it was quite unspectacular
Nardole provided cringy unfunny comedy, and it was all a bit flat… he wasn’t actually needed at all
Interesting story with harmony shoal, but as villains they weren’t that good, and they just got reused from last time
    Lucy was very good though
But sadly probably one of the weakest specials

  • doctor no more

    December 26th, 2016 - 12:05pm

yep, same story as most moffett xmas specials just recycled, the snowmen is still my favourite which moffett wrote,no spaceship crashing towards earth that time just a really different brilliant story with fantastic music score.

I got the reason how Nardole had got it his head back (probably giant centipedes again from “Class”. How he is capable to pilot the TARDIS is a mystery but I’ll go along with it, perhaps we’re all expecting bit a too much from things at Christmas now. The best thing from it was the trailer from the new series in the spring, bring it on and let’s see where we go to next 🙂

Stop keep on moaning about nardole because I think he is a good companion this just winds me up that we have only seen him be a companion once and already judging him. Just wait until the end of series 10 to Comment on him

How much would everyone give it out of 10? I would give it an 8

  • The Outcast

    December 26th, 2016 - 7:48am

Nothing is as bad as Hell bent, but I do agree with the special being underwhelming. I think the best part for most people was the Trailer for series 10 at the end.

Ok episode that could have been better but was fine. Some good ideas. But I hate that they keep dredging River up. Let her rest and get on with Twelve restoring his memories of Clara. Not convinced that Nardole has improved from last year. Twelve had better chemistry with Mr Huffle. And Bill came off as sense in the trailer rather than intelligent. I’m hoping she turns out better in the final episodes.

Well now I’ve seen it I personally think it wasn’t too bad.

Visually, the shoal of the winter harmony are an awesome race of aliens and the thought that they have scope to return is fantastic.

Grant/Ghost is a marketing scheme. I saw it a mile off. I said they would do comics of it and they are. I wouldn’t mind an action figure as well actually. The character was alright and it was written relatively well. Yes it’s a little basic for a hero and very similar to another (basically Superman) however I enjoyed the Who-esque spin on it.

Nardole was in my opinion SO much better than in The Husbands of River Song, playing a more companiony character with actually relevant lines including that lovely end speech to Lucy and Grant about River.

So, on to series 10. AsBill still looks and sounds dreadful after 4 viewings of the trailer. Matt Lucas may actually improve the series as a recurring character… we will find out in April.

I agree. After waiting a year for something new from the DW world it was disappointing. I tried to get into Class too but I thought that was terrible. Ah well onwards & upwards.

I wasn’t too impressed by it tbh. I asked my 9 year old what she thought & she gave it 5/5. So all in all not a great reception in our house. Still looking forward to seeing the new series though. Pleasebegoodpleasebegoodpleasebegood!!

And don’t say they was working on sherlock if he wanted just to one show he should have left last year.
