I think steven moffat is a brilliant writer but I do think hes bitten off more than he can chew as producer as well. Maybe time to hand the baton to someone else but just retain his writing duties to ‘who’. Maybe then we wouldn,t have all these convoluted story arcs. Blink and silence in the library/forest of the dead are just 2 of my all time favourites.

A very dissapointed Whovian here 🙁

I always look forward to every regeneration and this was the biggest let down ever. There was the long, long goodbye, and then in a split second he changed. Far, far too quick. Should have kept it like the previous 3 regenerations…more exciting. I didn’t even have the same emotional feeling like I experienced when David Tennant Changed to Matt Smith. Some younger viewers might have liked the story, but for us veterans of Dr Who…. a dissapointing finale.

And the regeneration scene was a disappointment as well. Moffat basically made regeneration into magic, destroying Daleks, and the flash between Smith and Capaldi was disappointing as well. I always liked the slower tranformation, but oh well. At least we can look forward to Peter Capaldi, and I’m very glad Steven Moffat finally tied up his story arcs.

in what way has time shown the RTD era to be awful? although far from perfect, as with Moffat’s, it is still a very strong era.

I’m going to be honest… I wasn’t really fond of it. Bit of a disappointment after all of the hype, rushed, all over the place… The old Doctor’s prosthetic was frankly appalling as well.
His farewell, although shorter than Tennant’s went on forever and felt a bit forced. I’m going to say it was about standard fare, 7 out of ten. I may warm to it in the future, but but I’m not holding out hope.

I have recently returned to the DW fold, fallen in love with Amy, River and Clara, like Matt a lot, loved series 5 and 6, but by Gallifrey that DOTD was tosh, and so is this TOTD. It is all just for the uber-fans, us part-timers will need our confidence restored again!

Amazing episode and a fitting ending to smiths era. Questions answered, heart warming and looking forward to capaldi.

But why are some whovians are like catholics they celebrate doctor who they mourn it.

I do love Peter Capaldi from The Thick of it and he is very very funny in it and I think at the end of the time of the doctor after he said “I’ve got new kidneys” he should of said “How the f*** do you fly this thing…” it would of been very naughty and everything but funny at the same time and btw farewell matt we miss you!!! and good luck to Capaldi!!! 😀

Depends on your definition of a minority. If I see that about 65% of the fans absolutely loved this and about another 20% seems happy, but had expected maybe a bit more, I think he did fine. He had to kill of a doctor, wrap up quite a few plot points and find a way around a giant problem (regeneration limit). I adore Moffat, and you can have your own opinion but the haters are ALWAYS a minority. Dw has never been more popular, and it keeps changing and growing. Either we change with it, or you’re just gonna grow bitter…

One more thing – the Sontarans have been turned into a cheap joke appearing only for a bit of (attempted) humour. Not good.

I do wish RTD would return to the show. Yes i enjoyed The Time of the Doctor but under Moffat all the Xmas specials have not been up to the standards of RTD. I have high hopes for Capaldi as the Doctor only if Moffat leaves if not the show could be doomed which is a shame.

I don’t think it’s a minority group. Fandom is pretty split about this one…

Graham S. Had to say, I love Ace and think she is very well portrayed. She evens has a back story which ties two unsuspecting stories (almost two years apart) together. But it never demanded the audience to be interested in her, sometimes like Clara, which I find much more satisfying.
