Now that we have had chance to see a full series of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor what do you think? Is he on his way to being the best or just not for you…

November 11th, 2014 - 10:56amClaras ‘Impossible girl’ was an original idea to freshly evolve a new companion during series 7 story arc and it worked. She did feel a little surplus to requirement this time round and the whole danny/clara romance seemed a bit sappy. New companion time.

November 10th, 2014 - 8:06pmCapaldi has brought the Doctor to a more rational level. Over the series, he has been seen as a deliverer from all evil, now he is shown as having a conscience. Having faced his death and own, all be it temporary mortality, and righted the past mistakes that led to the end of the time lords. The time line changed with that and it strikes me that having older actors has taken us back to the start of history and now being re written by the present Doctor. Who ever is the writer does not matter, as the new Doctor is just that a new Doctor. There is an awful lot of similarity in the character with first one and this backs up the change in the time line.

November 10th, 2014 - 4:54pmNot bad new doctor better than 6th but “going in to darkness more like dullness all the w Drs held centre stage while new Drs looses it to Clara and other characters maybe its the plan.i saw night of the doctor which left me wishing for more of the 8th Dr while as with the twelfth it would be ob well next lets hope it gets better next season

November 10th, 2014 - 2:40pmAgree up to a point- but opposite Matt smith Clara was a hugely appealing character – with a certain joie de vivre and a mischievous twinkle in her eye- especially as souffle girl.
On the subject of companions am i the only person who absolutely detested Donna? Worst companion in 51 years. (And yes I remember Langford as Mel)

If I wanted cliched love stories I’d watch Australian soaps
Also did not like his idea of the Dr being the lastof thetime lords.
Moffatt has written the best stories of the revamped series – The empty Child,Blink and several Matt Smith ones stand out.

November 10th, 2014 - 12:59pmAfter all the love I held and still hold for the Eleventh Doctor’s era, I truly feel like Moffat has lost his touch. I haven’t been able to enjoy this season as much as I have Series 5, 6, and 7. Oh, sure, the latter two had their problems, but I still enjoyed them more than this. I hope a new showrunner takes over and does Capaldi justice next season.

November 10th, 2014 - 12:56pmFor the most part, I agree with Anonymous, but a part of me agrees with Alan. Besides, Doctor Who is about change. Bringing back an old showrunner? That’s against change. Besides, Davies has written quite a few terrible episodes. Still, I feel like Moffat has lost his touch, and I’m hoping for a new showrunner next season.

November 10th, 2014 - 12:54pmAfter the high standards left by Matt Smith’s spectacular Eleventh Doctor, and my excitement for the darker, more serious Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi… I’m disappointed. The story arc was interesting, but it wasn’t the story arc we needed. We really should have had a story arc about the Doctor finding Gallifrey, and it didn’t help that this series would have actually benefited from being split into two parts. (One coming in Spring, the other in Fall, riding the excitement of the 50th Anniversary) The Twelfth Doctor was inconsistent and at times, unlikable for his first six episodes, but he’s come to be a character I can enjoy. Clara has gone from inconsistent to enjoyable, and I’ve loved her this season. Danny Pink started out interesting enough, but his levels of interest rose and fell pretty much every other appearance.
The Daleks were actually handled better than they were in the Eleventh Doctor post-Series 5, though, since they were actually killing people. The Cybermen are officially flying Iron Man jokes now, though. The Master being a woman was handled far better than I think everyone thought it would be, and it is sooo disappointing they just killed her off like that.
As for the new monsters, they’re a mixed bunch. You have some absolutely brilliant ones, like the Foretold, and the Boneless, some pretty darn good ones like the Half-Faced Man and the Teller, but then you have some pathetic ones like the Skovox Blitzer and the thing that we were SUPPOSED to NOT have seen in Listen.
The quality of the episodes seemed to rise and fall every other episode, with some good ones like Deep Breath, Into the Dalek, Time Heist, Flatline, and Death in Heaven, some meh ones like Robot of Sherwood, Listen, Kill the Moon, and Dark Water, and then a couple of terrible ones like The Caretaker and In the Forest of the Night. The story arcs disappeared and reappeared randomly, and it was all just “meh” overall. I feel Steven Moffat has truly lost his touch, and it’s definitely time for him to step down and let someone new take over. Don’t get me wrong, he’s written some of my all-time favorite episodes, and he was in charge in the era of my favorite Doctor (the Eleventh), but I don’t like his performance as a scriptwriter this season.
Overall, the Twelfth Doctor has failed to impress me, and though Clara has improved as a character and the Daleks are improving, Steven Moffat has overstayed his welcome, and it’s high time someone new took over. It’s time for Mark Gatiss’s or Neil Gaiman’s Doctor Who. In my honest opinion, it’s the best thing Moffat can do for the show now… To give the Twelfth Doctor and Series 8 a rating, I give them 5/10.

I will always be thankful for RTD for bringing the show back…but IMO, the worst episodes since the show’s return were the ones written by RTD…awful. In fact the highlights of his tenure were the stories written by SM. SM stories and ambitious, clever, funny and daring…they don’t always work…but as a fan that’s been watching the show since 1977, I think the show has gone from strength to strength under SM…and its clear from polls and reviews that most fans agree with that…they just don’t shout about it…so I thought I would 🙂

November 10th, 2014 - 3:40amCouldn’t agree more. Really can’t stand the Clara character, it is effective in small doses (couple of cameo roles a series) but the whole thing just grates on me. Capaldi has the potential to be a simply brilliant Doctor but most of the episodes seem to be about Clara.
In the latest where she was shouting “I am the Doctor” to the cybermen I was thinking ‘no but the writers seem to think you are’.
Make it stop please.

November 10th, 2014 - 3:39amAfter 3 wonderfully warm, funny and slightly wacky Doctors, I can’t take to this new Doctor with his almost cold arrogant manner.
Beware because as it gas happened before, departing from what should be places the show in jeopardy and we don’t want to see the show go off the air again.

November 10th, 2014 - 2:19amI am pleased that the new Doctor has taken the time to unfold his character, and not simply turn a switch and have us all tune to someone we are expected to embrace as readily as the Doctor we had. Generally, there is a period where one misses the characterization they have grown to accept. I believe that Peter Capaldi has done this brilliantly, and I am not as disappointed in this season’s scripts as others might be. When I consider the last episodes of Matt Smith’s run, which were rather spectacular in terms of scale, I believe the pace of revealing the new Doctor has been well achieved. I certainly remain a loyal viewer.

November 10th, 2014 - 1:20amThings started off slowly as Capaldi tried to find his feet but when he realised that an element of the thick of it character, with his trademark sarcasm was the best match for the Character of the Doctor, it got going and was fantastic.
Clara is the best character ever, apart from the Doctor.
The special effects have improved too, which makes things a more visual delight too.
I hope the partnership runs and runs because the chemistry between them is the best ever.
One day, when Capaldi does decide to regenerate, Clara would make the best next Doctor and add a twist and another dimension to things.
I hope that now that Gallifrey has been discovered that we can finally get a glimpse of the planet and the other time lords.
Space and time are the dimensions that we are used to but perhaps there is artistic licence to introduce a new kind of dimension that has not yet been thought of.

Peter Capaldi is great as the doctor and Jenna Coleman is absolutely awesome as Clara.
I love the chemistry they have together.
The themes of the show were a bit dark at some parts but well worked out and with enough light hearted moments in between.
All in all great fun to watch.

November 9th, 2014 - 6:16pmI have to agree with you, especially about the old tired married couple thing. Of course, I think of people who didn’t like the seventh doctor era the same way. Some of my favorite episodes are ones that in the past have made the bottom of the list, such as Paradise Towers. One thing I can think of that would have made series 8 better was if the Karabraxos Bank had turned out to have been designed by Kroagnon.

I think it was the best, most consistent season of the NuWho era and ranks among the best in franchise history. Maybe it’s time for some people to stop watching the show because they’ve clearly grown tired of it if they’ve reached the “they can’t do anything right” stage of an old tired married couple who are too lazy to divorce.
