Confirmed for 2013: Cybermen and Stellar Cast

Confirmed for 2013: Cybermen and Stellar Cast

From the official site…

The Doctor will come face-to-face with some old enemies…

We can confirm that the Cybermen will be menacing the universe once again when Doctor Who returns for a run of eight epic episode in spring, 2013.The iconic enemies will feature in an adventure directed by Stephen Woolfenden and written by the acclaimed Neil Gaiman whose previous episode was the Hugo Award-winning, The Doctor’s Wife.

Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion, the episode co-stars Warwick Davis (Life’s Too Short and Harry Potter), Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders and Hotel Babylon) and Jason Watkins (Being Human and Lark Rise to Candleford) as a band of misfits on a mysterious planet…

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, told us, ‘Cybermen were always the monsters that scared me the most! Not just because they were an awesome military force, but because sometimes they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing. ’ He added, ‘And with one of the all-time classic monsters returning, and a script from one of our finest novelists, it’s no surprise we have attracted such stellar names as Tamzin, Jason and Warwick.’

You can check out Cyber-galleries and enjoy clips from Cyberman stories in their very own Cyber-section or revisit Neil Gaiman’s previous Doctor Who adventure by watching interviews with the writer and clips from The Doctor’s Wife.

The Cybermen last appeared in 2011’s Closing Time but debuted in 1966 opposite William Hartnell’s Doctor in the classic The Tenth Planet. Over the years they have proven constant in their attempts to terrorise the Time Lord, invade our planet and destroy humanity… Secrecy surrounds all future adventures but we can’t wait to find out more about the Cybermen’s latest deadly gambit!

Doctor Who returns on December 25th for the Christmas Special and is back for a run of eight episodes in spring, 2013.

Sadly guys, that’s a trend that will continue with the next 8 episodes 🙁

Hopefully once series 8 has been commissioned by the BBC, the title sequence will go back to the way it was for series 5 and 6, or perhaps a whole new title sequence for Matt Smith could be made, like the video ‘Doctor Who Series 7 opening titles / intro 2012 /13 – VIEW IN HD’ made by ‘Billy Da Kid UK’ which I recommend taking a look at, it is absolutely awesome 😀

This is brilliant news, I heard it earlier on BBC Radio 2. I love the Cybermen and Neil Gaiman will make them more menacing and evil than ever. Warwick is a really good actor and he’s a nice addition to The Cyberman. 😉

ok fair enough, but which ever way you look at it, we’re both right, because although it is a christmas special, its still the sixth episode in the series. It’s not like you can skip over it

  • Ben Roberts

The Christmas episode doesn’t count as episode 6. The production code for the Christmas episode is 7.X (series 7 – Xmas), and the production code for episode 6 is 7.6. So, this episode will be episode 12. Episode 13 is being written by Moffat.

They haven’t had a single two parter under the Moffat era. I think personally this is a superb oppurtunity to redesign them again , the best versions need to be looked at, The Moonbase/Tomb Cybermen were for me the very best but I do also have a soft spot for The Invasion ones going crazy in the sewers.

no 13, there are 8 episodes in the spring next year, not including the christmas special. The christmas special counts as episode 6, therefore the cybermen will be in episode 13

    Warwick ‘Star Wars’ Davies ? . . . . NICE !!!! 😀

I saw Warwick recently recently at the London MCM Expo during the last weekend of October. He was there also back in May this year.

Wish the Cybus version of the Cybermen where deleted now, there boring, not as fun as they where in my view, and I don’t like the idea that the Mondasian Cybermen of our universe now look like them but with a different chest plate in place of the Cybus logo. Ours should return with a new design, or one that has never been seen on screen like the ones in the 6th Doctor online story ‘Real Time’ or the 8th Doctor comic strip ‘The Flood’.

Cybermen? Well, maybe they’re redesigning them! Oh well, I hope they’re gonna get more of an appearance than they did in Series 6.

Normally, I wouldn’t be that fussed. The Cybermen have been in it a bit too much in SM years. But NEIL GAIMAN is writing it! He’ll give the Cybermen some of their menace back!
