Definitely Ice Warriors, just listen to the familiar rattle noise in the trailer when it opens it’s mouth. You can compare this to the noises in Cold War if you wish.

Glad to finally see Nick Frost turn up in Doctor Who, since his buddy and co-star of film ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Paul’ and ‘At the Worlds End’ Simon Pegg appeared as ‘The Editor’ in series 1’s ‘The Long Game’.

    Oh, you’d better watch out!
Santa Claus and Doctor Who PLUS Alien crossover is coming to town!
Stay away from those Robot Santas and Christmas Trees.

I just had a thought, Santa must be a time lord! How else does he get round the whole planet in just one night to deliver all the presents? His sleigh is a Tardis! It must be able to travel through time and be bigger on the inside to carry enough presents for every child in the world.
Is this the return of the meddling monk?

There may have been a time when the Doctor himself might have once been Santa himself.

Rose: “Look at you, beaming around like it’s Christmas”.

The Doctor: “Who says I’m not ?. Red Bicycle when you was 12 !”.

      Rose: “What ??”.

      😀

Actually, The Doctor Who One, that was pretty much retconned that idea when he showed a kid a picture of him with Santa Claus and Albert Einstein, even implying they went on guy’s nights out.

Actually, I like that idea better than the Doctor actually being Santa Claus, since the Doctor’s already Merlin.

Series 8 of Doctor Who was the most weakest, poorest series to date.

Terrible storylines, apart from a few EPs.
    Very wooden acting from Capaldi.
Highly annoying relation of Clara and Danny.
And the finale was very disturbing, especially for those who have recently lost a loved one and they see a story where a deceased person is begging not to be cremated.

A new head writer needs to be employed, as the drivel that is coming from Moffat is cringeworthy.

And this is from someone who has watched the show since the first episode.

I buried an uncle two days before the finale part one- the episode did not bother me in the slightest.
If you have watched the series from the first episode (assuming you mean 1963 as opposed to 2005), do you really believe McCoy’s debut season was better than this one?
I was unsure of Capaldi after viewing the first few episodes but he grew on me greatly – look forward to seeing what he does with the character in the future (or past as the case may be!)

Very hard to live-up to Tennant and Smith, but doing well. Keep Clara. She is the conscience and is meant to be a strong counterpart.

Can’t agree with the people moaning about series 8, I think this has been one of the strongest series since the Moff took overand I think his writing since he took over has got worse, I liked it when RTD was in charge and the Moff just wrote the odd episode, I’m glad he has taken a bit of 2nd fiddle in the writing this series and do like the direction the show is going in, it needed the darkness, scariness again, hated the writing during Matt Smiths reign up until mid series 7 & 50th show. Think Peter is going to go down as the GREATEST Doctor ever, really love his character traits and interplay between him and Clara, and HOPING we have not seen the last of Missy loved her naughty nature. I don’t want more Moffat fairy tale stories rubbish as what he did with Matt really annoyed me and to me in a lot of ways Matt’s reign for me was ruined by Moffat’s writing and the samey rubbish he wrote. I’m hoping that maybe its a new monster in the Christmas story, I would actually like to see the Slitheen back too, loved them especially Margaret Slitheen. Please too change the new version of the Theme, don’t like it, it sounds cheap.

My son and I agree. Great new doctor just hope the writing can match the caliber of the actors involved and yes the new version of the theme tune and graphics are not up to scratch.

Nick Frost as Santa, okay. In my opinion it is a good idea to add Santa. Only because recently the series has been going so dark. The show is becoming less child-friendly by the second. Death in Heaven probably being the worst culprit. This should make it a little more like a kids show again. But the aliens look good. Really want it to be the ice warriors but its prably a new monster.

      November 9th, 2014 - 7:13pm

      No I didn’t.

I am so bitterly disappointed with Clara that I really believe my 35 years watching the show is drawing to a close. She just spoils it.

I am all for strong women characters – but Clara is arrogant, self centred, takes centre stage over the Doctor every time and generally turns the Sci-fi into a soap.

Dr Who is turning to plop.

A shame because left to his own devices, I think Peter has the ability to be one of the best Doctors for years.

    • paula

      November 10th, 2014 - 7:45pm

Clare was difficult to watch. She made a lot of the suspense parts unbelievable as if watching pantomime. She has no credibility or breadth in the emotions she uses as if everything is a game. We switched off half way through the Matt Smith reign. He was good but the mixture of writing, plus Clare was too much. Come back to watch the new doctor and his lines and banter are great. Keeping us back in..just.

Hmmm, have to agree with people here. The episode looks good, but the downsides are how the Santa character will come across and the darkness of the episode. This looks dark, and frankly I prefer a Christmas episode to have more jolly times.
    Maybe it’ll beat The Snowmen, who knows. c;

Or maybe even more likely Krynoids due to the arctic setting and the slimy thing that is opening could be a mouth or a krynoid pod which was slimy also in The Seeds of Doom. Plus they made the same sound.

Christmas wouldn’t be the same without Doctor Who. Except I watch it on Boxing Day… It feels closer now than it did this morning. I suppose it is really. But it feels like it’s…well…like it’s upon us even more. It’s exhilarating and exciting.

Doesn’t look too good in my opinion. Bet it’s just ‘Yes, I’m the real Santa. Ho, ho, ho’ for about half the episode then we actually find out he’s a Slitheen or something, stealing children’s presents (bet kids will be involved somewhere too 🙄 )
