Doctor Who to Return with ‘The Bells of St John’ – First Official Picture!

Doctor Who is to return to BBC One on 30 March in a modern day urban thriller announced today as ‘The Bells of St John’, as the first official image is revealed giving fans a sneak peak at what to expect from the epic new series.

Written by Steven Moffat, ‘The Bells of St John’ will mark the official introduction of the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Having already made two appearances last year, the opening episode will be the first time fans get to see the Clara that will accompany the Doctor across the series’ eight adventures.

Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge, ‘The Bells of St John’ will also establish a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.

Steven Moffat, executive producer and lead writer, said:

“It’s the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what’s going on! We’re up in the sky and under the sea! We’re running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There’s new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor’s greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn’t already our most exciting year it would be anyway!”

Featuring a movie a week from a ghost story to an underwater siege to a period drama, the new series will also introduce new monsters, as well as bringing back fan favourites the Ice Warriors and Cybermen.

Meanwhile the series’ stellar list of guest stars include: Celia Imrie; Richard E Grant; Warwick Davis, Jessica Raine; Dougray Scott and Tamzin Outhwaite, as well as for the first time on screen together, mother and daughter Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling.

Great to see the Ice Warriors looking almost exactly the same as they did back in the 60s and 70s! After they messed up the Silurians, it’s nice to see them sticking to the original designs.

i like the ice warriors, and cybermen. the bells of st john should be interesting.
what kind of name is spoonhead? πŸ˜›
i think that the finale will end with river (or whoever it is that asks) saying “doctor who?” and the doctor saying something like “exactly” then the credits.

Awesome, looks like the Doctor stole that outfit from the Joker (an obscure villain from the batman comic books, movies videogames and cartoons, you won’t have heard of him).

Is that a golden bowtie ? That can’t be right, he wears a purple one in the story ❗

This looks to be an incredibly epic season, with the exception of the possibility of the Doctor’s name being revealed. I hope Moffat has the sense not to reveal it. Though I just had an interesting idea: What if his name really was Doctor Who?

No fan of the Ice Warriors [they sound like they’ve smoked too many Cigarettes, giving them all very sore throats when they speak], but at least they don’t appear to have altered what so ever, except it now looks like they have a 3 fingered hand instead of the sort of claw hands they had in the classic series, but the overall familiar look of theirs has not changed.

Anyone else thinking of the 8th Doctor with Grace and the 10th Doctor with Rose on Motorbikes when looking at the 11th Doctor and Clara in these images ?.

I wouldn’t worry about it mate. The Doctors name won’t really be revealed, it’s just a great big joke old Steven Moffat is playing on us.

After all, if he reveals the Doctors name [which he can’t cos even he don’t know what it is really] then calling the series ‘DOCTOR WHO’ would become meaningless.

WOW! That looks amazing, can’t wait for the new series! Also I don’t really want to know who the Doctor is because it would ruin all the point πŸ™
