Doctor Who / Torchwood Writers at Alt. Fiction

Attention Sci-Fi Lovers! An illustrious host of Doctor Who and Torchwood screenwriters and novelists will again be taking part in this year’s Alt.Fiction Literature Festival in Derby, one of the UK’s leading events for writers and readers of science fiction, fantasy and horror.

The festival returns to QUAD on 25 and 26 June, with two days of science fiction, fantasy and horror writing events. With over 50 top authors, agents and editors participating, the weekend is packed with readings, discussions, workshops, podcasts, films and much more.

Our extensive line-up includes Paul Cornell, the scriptwriter for Doctor Who episodes Father’s Day, Human Nature and The Family of Blood. He will be joined by Robert Shearman who famously wrote Dalek. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with a wealth of BBC Books authors including Dan Abnett, Guy Adams, Paul Finch, James Goss, Una McCormack, Mark Morris, Sarah Pinborough and BBC Books editor Steve Tribe.

Paul Cornell is a New York Times #1 Bestselling Author who has written for Doctor Who, Action Comics and Batman & Robin for DC Comics. His new urban fantasy novel is out next year from Tor. Paul will be participating on several panels and readings regarding genre fiction and also on the podcast session ‘Has Genre Conquered The Mainstream?’.

Dan Abnett is Guest of Honour alongside Alastair Reynolds. Dan is an award-winning comic book writer, who has written almost 40 novels. His Torchwood novel Border Princes was a bestseller in both the UK and the US. Dan will be heavily involved throughout the weekend, not only on numerous podcasts, readings and panels but with his own keynote address on the Saturday afternoon.

BBC Books editor Steve Tribe, says: We’re really pleased to be bringing the authors of our latest Doctor Who and Torchwood books to Alt.Fiction 2011. Last year’s event was a highlight of the year – a great opportunity to talk to readers and authors, and perhaps to meet some potential future writers for our ranges.”

Alex Davis, Alt.Fiction Coordinator says: “It’s hugely exciting to be working with BBC Books on this year’s event, and I’m delighted to have authors and screenwriters of this calibre taking part. Our BBC Books panel is bound to be a highlight, with no less than nine people participating!’

Alt.Fiction is truly a weekend not to be missed for book lovers and writers alike.

Weekend tickets are £45, available from www.derbyquad.co.uk
