Of all the changes that are incoming for series 11, most which I am happy with, I think that Murray Gold absence is going to leave some MASSIVE boots to fill

I really want to see Lisa Dwyer Hogg as the Doctor, she’s my top choice for the 14th Doctor.

When I first here the new Doctor would be a woman I was genuinely disappointed. Why? When they named Jodie Whitteger I was exceedingly surprised and truly excited. Can’t wait ! She can pull this off. The Doctor has been women before, we just never saw that part. Well we saw Doctor Donna for a few minutes . Lol. It’ll be great since the reboot they’ve all been brilliant!

I think regeneration is slightly beyond mere biology. If it was simply a matter of chromosomes, all Doctors would look like Hartnell. I assume all chromosomes change in the process, meaning it is possible for the “y” chromosome to become an “x”.

Not happy with the idea of a female doctor. It just doesn’t feel right. He wouldn’t have the right chromosomes when he regenerated

Well we don’t “need” a female doctor. We don’t “need” a male Doctor either. You mean you don’t want a Doctor who is female.
Honestly, the writing is the most worrying thing at this point. The casting has given Doctor Who publicity -possibly the most publicity since the show’s revival- now it’s crucial that Chibnall can get people on board with his (hopefully good) writing.

Blame chibnall and the bbc. By doing this they have shown they don’t have much respect for the fan base, and just want to seem progressive to new fans, who just care about being pc.

  • The Moffat Paradox

    January 12th, 2018 - 2:12am

Came across articles I’ve read with wry amusement in which Moffatt says that people who voted for Brexit would be less likely than people with more “progressive” views to accept a female Doctor and that the writers had to worry about these viewers saying: “that’s not the same person” as “This isn’t a show exclusively for progressive liberals, this is also for people who voted Brexit.”(It obviously escapes him that people on the left voted for Brexit as well; which is why that’s called Lexit.)

Well other than the fact that is perfectly possible to have voted for Brexit and be happy with the gender change or have voted for Remain and detest it and that it’s lazy thinking to claim being “progressive” is always synonymous with improvement on anything that existed and worked well before (progress just literally means moving forward as in a new year in space and time; it doesn’t necessarily lead to a better outcome just because you’ve made this progress..) as TA puts it here: “It’s not just about the gender, it is also about the agenda pushing things they have been implanting in to the show”.

So if Moffatt in his time and Chibnal now were really so worried about instilling a viewer and fan revolt when their “progressive” agenda peddling has become so transparent if the damage isn’t already irrevocable perhaps the writing team’s new year resolution could be to stop giving the impression that outside of Who they live in a world in which Remain won the referendum and Hilary Clinton is in the White House.

Every body say at first the costumes at hated, but I never remember any one giving much hate about previous doctor costumes, compared to what ever this is.

Darren, you summed up my feelings as well.

It’s like the return of JNT’s excess influence in poor taste of costume attire of the mid-late 1980’s. One hopes this costume for Jodie’s Doctor changes during series 11 (season 37), and does so quite rapidly…ideally in the second or third episode.

I think what was good about those eras was the storytelling, at the beginning tom had some of the best doctor who stories, same with David in his run, until Moffat’s writing started to go down and pc agenda was probably coming in. They need to have good storytelling and no political bias in it, and do smart decisions that won’t affect the fan base too much, but…

I’ve decided I don’t like the costume. It looks ridiculous, and looks like something cobbled together without much thought. It’s looking more like a light weight kiddies tv version of Doctor Who. It’s how the Doctor would look if she made a guest appearance on ‘Balamory’! Seriously get a grip BBC, and get the Doctor in something that can be taken seriously, and not looking like an outright joke!

she will be great doctor and I like her outfit for new series which out this year

  • The Outcast

The way to boost viewer numbers is simple, figure out what was good about was good about the most popular years of the show (e.g. the 4th and 10th Doctor years) and update that somewhat to fit what is currently popular in media today, e.g. 80’s style (seems to be shown here), having more female sci-fi/action heroes (check) and whatever else is most popular in media.

    January 4th, 2018 - 1:14am

There are many theories such they need a boost in viewing, they want to try something different or it for a pc agenda, which could be the most likely the way the show has been going recent years.

  • The Outcast

    January 3rd, 2018 - 12:22pm

Still true though. Not all outfits are loved. Its not instantly “hate commentary” to dislike the outfit.

@ The Outcast, note tj’s use of the word “nearly”.
