Omega to Return in 2017 K9 Big Screen Movie Timequake
“Move over R2D2 and C3PO”……
K9, the World’s most famous robot dog traverses the dimensions of space and time to become the latest robot star of the big screen!
Having made his TV debut nearly forty years ago in the 1977 Doctor Who TV serial “The Invisible Enemy” K9 went on to become one of the most iconic characters from the BBC series.
A new look high tech K9 for today’s cinema is being prepared for film stardom.
The film “K9-TIMEQUAKE” has been written by one of K9’s original creators; Bob Baker, a renowned writer of classic Doctor Who serials. Bob went on to co-write with Nick Park the Oscar and Bafta winning Wallace & Gromit series of film shorts as well as the feature film Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
The new K9 will be appearing in a Multi-Million Dollar movie which promises to be a great action adventure set in deep Space. The film will be full of dashing heroes and heroines, Androids, monstrous Aliens and an ultimate foe who will also be familiar to Doctor Who fans everywhere; the megalomaniac OMEGA.
The film is to be a UK co-production with exteriors filmed overseas and studio work planned for the UK.
K9 is the perfect character to star in a movie with a whole new bunch of action heroes making this a home grown Star Wars come Guardians of the Galaxy style cinema must see film.
The film is currently slated for release in 2017 which will be K9’s fortieth birthday!

Moffat owns Weeping Angels, the Silence, Mme Kovarian, etc, etc. RTD owns Sycorax, Judoon, Slitheen, etc etc, Terry Nation estate, the Daleks, The Cybermen are Kit Pedler and Gerry Davies estates, Robert Holmes estate, Sontarans, Rutans, etc etc ……. And the list goes on and on ……

DALEKS: Invasion Earth 2150 AD was shown on 22nd July 1966.

October 25th, 2015 - 11:48amCompletely agree, in all honesty, you could even say the 1996 movie isn’t canon and devise your own way that the 7th regenerated into the 8th. In a way, you could say any single episode isn’t canon, if you wanted to – it’s really personal preference. Eg, a lot of people like to believe that Kill the Moon never really happened – and just ignore it from the continuity.
It really is your choice on what you approve as canon, although I like the think all of the TV series is canon, this K9 movie may not be in my eyes depending on how good it is, or whether I like how they do it.
Sometimes people go too far, saying things like, all of new who isn’t canon, and in that case, you may as well say the entire of Doctor Who isn’t canon to Doctor Who – like honestly, people need to let it go sometimes.

MkII fought in the time war after being left with Romana and then ended up on Earth 2050 where he regenerated into the new K9, same software, different case.

October 25th, 2015 - 8:49amWhat is this obsession with ‘canon’? It really doesn’t matter! If you want to include something be it the Peter Cushing films, the Virgin or BBC Books, Big Finish or K9 then do so. There are no rules. Infact, RTD and Moffat have illustrated this…the McGann 1996 TVM is ‘canon’. But both refuse to acknowledge and expand on the whole ‘half human’ thing. So those few important lines in a couple of scenes are now supposed to be wiped from Who-lore. And yet, watch the episode and there are the lines – bold as brass. You can’t deny it. The story revolves around it. Yet, we do.
Canon discussion is a waste of energy as DW will always contradict itself when it needs to. In this case its simple. IF you include the efforts of Big Finish, simply because in a WEBcast (not a TV screening), Paul McGann is given a line mentioning characters from their audios, then you must include the Virgin and BBC novels as they have characters and planets mentioned in the series since 2005. Similarily, you have to acknowledge K9 mark One in his own tv series as he has actually appeared in DW! This movie is a follow on for his adventures and pits him against Omega – who has also appeared in DW! Not fleeting mentions, but actually appeared! So, of course you can consider it canon!
This movie is an amazing achievement in an industry which is business led rather than creative led. To get a character that is nearly 40 years old off the ground not once. but twice in this climate where production companies are struggling and only certain projects get greenlit is to be celebrated. Let’s be factual here, if you have read the ‘Essential book of K9’ you can see why the tv series ended up like it did … like the 1996 DW effort – it was a co-production with many different parties being catered for. Not an easy task. And with the Conservative government in the UK set on destroying the BBC, we should be grateful for anything new as we may soon not get as much BBC tv programming as we are all used to.
Confirmed at the DWAS convention in Manchester yesterday, Paul Tams says the BBC are free to use K9 and Omega at anytime (Bob gets script approval) but as of yet, they don’t want to. K9 and Omega are Bob Baker creations and copyrighted to him. Good on him for using them.
I can’t wait to see what they do with these characters in this film and I applaud their determination.
And as a final – it won’t be an animated K9 in the movie – the illustration is an artist impression. According to the K9 team staffmember at the DWAS event, K9 will be a real model with CGI for certain battle scenes.

October 25th, 2015 - 12:56amThe thing about this is if it’s the original K9 Mk1 and original (ish) Omega then it would probably work BUT seeing as it’s most likely going to be the K9 from the spin off show (and if omega was in it he would likely be not dissimilar to a Power Rangers villain) then I think maybe this might not be as good as it could be. Like how much of it will be The K9 show and how much will be something new, different and actually enjoyable to watch?

I know I could have used the right words and not wrong ones I hope u will forgive me for my digression. If the change his looks for the film I hope they do it better. I would love to see the old but a little updated look for the film.
