Pearl Mackie to be New Companion

Pearl Mackie has been named as the new Doctor Who companion alongside Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord in the Tardis.

The Londoner’s role was announced on BBC One during half time of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United.

Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, whose character Clara Oswald left the show in 2015.

Filming for the next series of the long-running science fiction show will start this year but air in 2017.

Mackie, who graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is currently performing in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

First I think its great how instead of doing a 10 second video of Pearl Mackie saying “Hi I’m the next companion” they did a awesome action scene that also introduced her character. I have a feeling that Bill will be a great companion. Her asking the doctor a lot of questions is a good sign because it says what the audience is thinking and it can make a scene more entertaining. She reminds me of the 8th doctor companion Lucie Miller I think a companion like that would be prefect for the 12th doctor. Please don’t make this companion too complex having them become a “chosen one” makes them less relatable to the audience.

The last bit of the clip when the Dalek spots them is new but the other Dalek clips are from into the dalek

Are you sure because there’s a behind the scenes picture at the middle picture showing the Daleks by Peter and Pearl. Correct me if I’m wrong though

I’m expecting the new companion to be similar to Ace (Sophie Aldred)

The video says a scene from a future episode of Doctor who but the Dalek clips have all been spliced together from into the Dalek

Brilliant! A new companion with no preconceptions from previous TV roles. An original companion who won’t be referred to as ………. from ……(pick whatever TV soap). A return to Dr who bringing unknown actors and actresses into the light!

Don’t hate her! I agree that she was a little annoying, but that’s just because they were playing around with her and Capaldi!

I don’t know who she is. I don’t think she will be good but we have to give her a chance.

I’m thinking it’s a pre-production name, as they may still need do finalise what her name is, later in the production of series 10, before announcing it…

what i like about the image on the twitter page is that the doctor is at the front with the companion behind, recently with amy pond and clara they have either been centre with the doctor or in front. thats the best thing about this uninspired, dull casting…

Might be a little too early to judge this but I think Bill will make series 10 a much lighter series. She reminds me of Donna

Could be, or Billie Jo or something. Sorry to say anything, but is that text abbreviation allowed as it is technically swearing??? It does mean a swear word.

at least it ain’t the girl off eastenders, tbh I think the fans weren’t too keen on that Idea, but this choice? well it is far too soon to give a proper opinion

Unimpressed and uninspired for now, even Capaldi seemed a little off form. Will see what series 10 brings I suppose.

I’m happy as it is the first time we have had a non-white companion since Martha Jones and I wanted either a black or Asian person to take the role
