Pearl Mackie to be New Companion
Pearl Mackie has been named as the new Doctor Who companion alongside Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord in the Tardis.
The Londoner’s role was announced on BBC One during half time of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United.
Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, whose character Clara Oswald left the show in 2015.
Filming for the next series of the long-running science fiction show will start this year but air in 2017.
Mackie, who graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is currently performing in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

Watch an episode or two before vowing never to watch again if you are any sort of fan. Complain bitterly after you have some more evidence. Give her a chance to be introduced properly. One of the risks of Who is the ever changing cast, but it’s also kinda the point – new Doctors, new companions.

April 24th, 2016 - 9:50amI think the whole scene is an intro to the new companion & possibly won’t even appear in series 10. Into the future of 2017 could be a reference to the air date of the next series.

Of course, we all know by now what a Dalek is and why it’s a scary creature to many of us, but this is her first encounter with the evil little space-Nazis, and she’s seeing this salt-shaker shaped tank armed with a gun that looks like an egg whisk and an arm that looks like a plunger, and she is just amused by it. It also really feels like she’s going to be an ordinary human from Earth, which really is what we need after Amy and River and Clara. Let’s make this a Christmas in July special, ’cause I don’t want to wait!
