June 6th, 2011 - 3:38pmIf River is the little girl and she can regenerate, why didn’t she do so when she died at the end of Forest of the Dead ?

June 6th, 2011 - 3:11pm(sorry in advance for the long read 😛 Had a lot to say :P)
1) Melody is NOT the Doctor’s child. It would be wrong in so many ways and would stir up a bunch of moral issues Doctor Who would not want to cause. (the Doctor kissing and probably eventually more with his daughter?!? The concept that the Doctor would sleep with Amy, his good friend, thus betraying Rory, another good friend)
The whole purpose of the dialogue sequence between the Silurian woman and the Doctor was to explain how Melody was a time lord born from two humans (Rory and Amy). Though even then they might be a little more than human while obviously not being time lords. It has been shown time and time again that long term contact with the time vortex via the Tardis has side effects. Major such as the Bad Wolf/Rose and Donna/Doctor Donna examples. But minor effects could simply mean that Rory and Amy have “time energy” (i forget what the technical term was) in minor contact at all times, thus causing the child to have a slightly different DNA patern (part time lord) examples of this are hinted at:
-During the Silurian and Doctor dialogue in which they say that it has to do with the baby being concieved while passing through the time vortex
-Amy’s fear of her baby having a TimeHead because of her travels through the time vortex
-the Doctor’s intense reaction to the idea that Rory and Amy might have concieved the baby a little after their marriage IMPLYING that the foetus growth would have happend during their travels.
-The Doctor mentions something about it being impossible because it would take centuries for a human to develope the Time Lord Gene. BUT Amy’s child was growing inside of her while she traveled through time. Time being different in the Tardis, she did travel from the begining of time to the end of time or a litle in between that length, implying that she has traveled through… You guessed it!… hundreds of years.
I highly doubt that Madame Kovarian would have had to do anything at that moment, considering Melody probably would already have had all of the necesary elements. She might, on the other hand have helped the birthing process, it being probably traumatic and dificult for a meer human. This might explain why the Doctor told her to “breath only when she (Madame Kovarian) tells you to”.
2) This one’s tricky but I gather that the intro sequence implies that the Doctor destroyed the major part of their fleet and then killed off the remaining few. Implying that the Doctor really has gone slightly mad and violent and/or the Cybermen are going soft. Not necesarily the writers best move, but interesting concept none the less. Like the Daleks I feel they will come back, just a little more scared/angry, a little more careful in their approach. The Doctor is getting a little more vengeful, but as River implied, its causing a pretty big anger on the part of his enemies too. I mean who would be mad enough to steal the Doctor’s friend’s child (also his maybe wife) other than all of his biggest enemies majorly pissed off and scared? They failed when they allied to imprison him, they thought of the next best thing: Attack his companions and loved ones. Its been done before and it usually works damned well!

June 6th, 2011 - 11:02amI agree with lepter. I was waiting for the “game changing ending” but it limped out with a rubbish reveal for River Song. There was no point to the Cybermen in this story, it could have been any race. Rory was completely out of character, he has been a complete wet wimp since the start. Amy, I am so bored of Amy, who in all honest is in my bottom 3 companions along with Adric and Rory! A Sontaran “Nurse”? Really? WHY???? A Silurian in England in the 1800’s? If so, why did she not raise the rest of her race and wipe the “vermin” from the face of the earth. All the “enemies” were out of character. As for the headless monks, like the Silence before them, they were average! No real scare factor. And what was with the use of the TARDIS corridors on Demon’s Run? Another thing I am really getting sick and tired of is this stupid obsession of calling “Jenny” the Doctor’s daughter! She isn’t, she is a clone used from the Doctor’s DNA! And while we are on the subject of family, why have Moff and RTD before him decided that the Doctor no longer has family? What about the Doctor’s Granddaughter? If people really want to see scary Doctor WHo then watch Pyramids of Mars or Terror of the Zygons! Come on Moff, you can do so much better then this less than average story

June 6th, 2011 - 10:00amWhat about the Flesh doctor. They mentioned a couple of times there can only be 1 doctor. Could it have been the Flesh doctor being killed perhaps.

June 6th, 2011 - 9:22amI think you’re right, it’s a future Doctor that is killed at the lake, so he knows who River really is but doesn’t reveal it. He knows she’s going to kill him when she’s a little girl and he can’t do anything about it without interfering with her history.

June 6th, 2011 - 8:37amNo, River wouldn’t *purposely* kill Rory… accidently, maybe. But… also consider there may be a River ganger floating about too… if they could make an avatar of her as a baby, they might be able to animate a ganger. Why have only one ‘weapon’ when you can also have a spare, especially if the Doctor steals the original! Plus they might have genetically meddled with a ganger, and sent it completely mad.
If the ganger died during the event… original River may have been blamed and jailed for the crime… River seems the type to blame herself for something like that, and then take the punishment.
Or the man she (original River or otherwise)’kills’ could just as likely be someone new that we meet in the second half of the series.
It’s all timey wimey topsy turvy lol. 🙂
(Personally I don’t want Rory to die at all lol, I actually quite like him!)

June 6th, 2011 - 6:35amBut I think Melody regenerated into the looks of River Song!! And changed her name permanently (River Song) to avoid confusion!

June 6th, 2011 - 6:32amI just jumped on the sofa as I saw Captain Avery and his son, Sontarons, Cybermen, Silurians, Judoon and I would have never expected the doctor to be the last monk!!!
And since when was Rory brave, strong, and a nurse???
bdayboy
June 6th, 2011 - 6:29amNo Mels, Rory is river’s dad!!! She wont kill him!!!
bdayboy
June 6th, 2011 - 6:26amI think the girl in the spacesuit is Melody pond (River) grows up, shoots the doctor at the lake!!!
bdayboy
June 6th, 2011 - 6:22amAh, Melody = Song
River = Pond!!!!!!

June 6th, 2011 - 6:21amNo, entirely the opposite, this series has been too good for words!! If you are 90, OK. But once I tried to watch the 5 doctors and fell asleep!!! What does that tell you? THIS SERIES HAS BEEN THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 5th, 2011 - 11:17pmI couldn’t agree more I have been watching Dr Who since it began and I am a terrific fan. It was great seeing kids that used to watch it write the episodes in the Dr Who tradition. This last episode whilst a great spectacle had me saying WHAT???? is this all about, the baby thing I find distasteful I am sure most mothers would agree; and as a primary school teacher the story lines are now so complicated and intricate it leaves the kids quite puzzled no one can discuss the stories anymore. Do they consult their young (and old) viewers. I suggest they should!

June 5th, 2011 - 10:14pmSlagging off RTD again! Surprise surprise! Doctor Who fans are never happy. This reminds me of the awful fans who slated JNT when he was producer. Why cant you just say I dint like the first 35mins of the episode – why bring RTD in to it?

June 5th, 2011 - 10:08pmEveryone i speak to at my work place (big hospital) say they have stopped watching Doctor Who since Tennant left and that the new Doc isnt as good and that the stories are becoming too complex to follow. Is Moff alienating the general public? Now that is not my opinion, thats Joe Public speaking. I loved the RTD era and Tennant is defo my favourite Doctor but i wont slag off the Moff era because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Just seems Doctor Who fans are vicious and have to slate off the era they dont like. That has never changed. Its the one bit of fandom i hate.

June 5th, 2011 - 10:02pmbring down the dr by destroying the universe…bit drastic isnt it. Why not just shoot him. (oh, they did! ;-))

June 5th, 2011 - 9:59pmnot true. The keys to time story arc had 5 seperate stories linked by a simple quest to find the key segments. You can watch any one story, eg power of kroll on its own and still enjoy it. Trail of a time lord again had seperate stories bridged by a trail. You could watch terror of the vervoids on its own and still enjoy it. This LLLOOOOOONNNGGGG two year story arc is overly complicated and watering down the power of dr who. Wimpy cybermen? Whole fleet killed by one man. At one time, rory would have been toast, (or converted…cyberroary! Dont mind Mat smith. Lesbian silurians? Pennant sontarans? Two year story arcs….its a bit much. And yes, I love dr who.
The Master
June 5th, 2011 - 9:56pmExactly what I thought
lepter
June 5th, 2011 - 9:47pmme too….would have been a better twist than the river/amy baby thing though.
lepter
June 5th, 2011 - 9:45pmOverly convoluted stories with little plot except for furthering the LOOONG story arc covering TWO SEASONS. Cybermen turned into paper soldiers, one man destroyed a whole cyberfleet! Gone are the Tomb of the cybermmen vibes, all invincable and scary, instead rory stands there acting all tough and for what? Big on genocide though isnt he at the moment. The blue guy could have told them were amy was all along. A sontaran who needs to serve penance? Were is the TIME WARRIOR vibe gone? A lesbian silurian in victorian england? come on…..No, Old Dr who wipes the floor with this season. Now we have to wait THREE MONTHS to find out whats going to happen. after waiting a year already to find out who the voice was…(we still dont know)And this in a kids show.
After masterpieces like GIRL IN THE FIREPLACE, EMPTY CHILD and BLINK….I am VERY disapointed with this season. The last season was ok. (new daleks, vincent, dream lord….cool stuff) This season though….all fizz, no substance. LOVE DOCTOR WHO…not impressed with this season so far. (river song bieng amys baby…so predictable…no suprise there. )
riversong:)
June 5th, 2011 - 9:43pmthey wouldn’t have kissed lol :’)

June 5th, 2011 - 9:33pmI agree. RTD, come back, all is forgiven.
wowza
June 5th, 2011 - 9:22pmNo, because it only translated to River Song beacuse the people of the forest don’t have a word for pond.
