What did you Think of Dinosaurs On A Spaceship?
What did you Think of Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
The second episode of series 7a has aired so what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.
An unmanned spaceship hurtles towards certain destruction – unless the Doctor can save it, and its impossible cargo … of dinosaurs!
By his side a ragtag gang of adventurers, a big game hunter, an Egyptian Queen and a surprised member of the Pond family. But little does the Doctor know there is someone else on board who will stop at nothing to keep hold of his precious, prehistoric cargo.

September 9th, 2012 - 12:01amA great episode, and much better than the trailer suggested. The dinosaurs were very realistic with some good CGI.
I wasn’t sure about the Doctor leaving Solomon to his fate – not very Doctor like. Former Doctors would probably have given Solomon a chance to save themselves first.
By the way, with the Doctor picking up the Ponds every few months or so, it gives great scope for some “missing adventures” stories in book or audio form at some time in the future.

September 8th, 2012 - 10:58pmThe worst episode of the Matt Smith era by a mile. Please no more Chris Chibnall Scripts, hes a dreadful writer and this episode was a complete mess from start to finish!
Esterath
September 8th, 2012 - 11:03pmI hate to say Chibnall has written episode 4 TPOT.
Adam
September 8th, 2012 - 11:06pmIm hoping episode 4 cant be any worse than this but then Dinodung was a lot worse than his last 2 parter!
The TARDIS
September 9th, 2012 - 7:25amThat’s quite harsh – especially compared to the weakness of The Hungry Earth…

September 8th, 2012 - 10:40pmBecause of the doctor getting darker, i think he’ll be the main reason Rory and Amy die.

September 8th, 2012 - 10:24pmNot good! Sometimes I long for the day when DW was spread out over 3 or 4 episodes where characterisation and plot could develop. My major gripe here is Queen Nefertiti. Just thrown into the mix for the sake of it just being Queen Nefertiti – she didn’t need to be there at all – Solomon could have bargained with the TARDIS – much more precious. The idea of comedy double acts/comedians being in Who should have been abandoned with Hale and Pace in Survival – stupid robots! It only started to pick up when Solomon appeared and we found out more about who the ship belonged to, but even Solomon didn’t get enough screen time – and would this version of the Doctor REALLY have sent him to his death? I’m not moaning because it’s new – I really liked Aylum last week, but for me this was childish nonsense that will probably be gracing the lower end of the Season 7 votes in DWM this time next year. Still waiting for Mat Smith to have his Blink or Midnight ‘classic’ episode because he deserves so much better than this!
Esterath
September 8th, 2012 - 11:01pmMatt Smith has loads of classic episodes! TEH, TTOA, FAS, VATD, TL, TPO, TBB, ACC, TIA, DOTM, TDW, AGMGTW, TGWW, TGC, TDTWATW, AOTD, DOAS and ATCM.
Justininferno
September 9th, 2012 - 10:18amI totaly agree Mat – the Smith era is devoid of true classics. I doubt that in 20 years time many will be remembered at all. Not like Genesis if the Daleks or Caves of Androzani or even Midnight or Stolen earth/Journeys end. The Moffat era just doesn’t add anything to the legacy apart from huge mistakes.
The TARDIS
September 9th, 2012 - 11:48amThere aren’t many true classics, but what about the Doctor’s Wife? Surely that MUST go down as a classic?
dr who
September 9th, 2012 - 12:50pmthey need it all to keep it going else it runs out and characters have nothing to say then it will only be 10 minutes long
matparks08
September 9th, 2012 - 2:55pmEsterath, have you really just listed A Town Called Mercy in your Matt Smith ‘classic’ list?? You cannot seriously call all of these ‘classic’ stories? I do think ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ is probably correct and apologies that it had slipped my mind, some are very good too like ‘The Girl Who Waited’ and ‘Time of Angels’, but. overall. I just feel so many of the Matt Smith stories are rushed, incoherent and forgettable.
Esterath
September 11th, 2012 - 7:24pmI believe that ALL the stories I listed are classics. It’s my opinion.
John Smith
September 12th, 2012 - 7:57amI both agree and disagree. So far a lot of Moffat’s episodes have gotten on my nerves. They’re too damn complicated. Although every now and then there will be a good episode.
matparks08
September 12th, 2012 - 10:10pmI’m only arguing against you listing ‘A Town Called Mercy’ as a classic episode because it hasn’t even been shown yet – how have you based your opinion on it?
TheMadDalek
September 8th, 2012 - 10:10pmWell that was a hell lot better than the first… how come if it’s not the Daleks or Cybermen, they don’t screw it up?

September 8th, 2012 - 10:01pmI enjoyed that. Nuff said.

September 8th, 2012 - 9:54pmam i the only one who hated this ep. it was silly and stupid. everyone has been saying it was great and funny. but dr who is not a comedy its a drama but steven moffat wants it to be a drama and comedy and thriller and romance and chick flick. its all packed in to one show and it makes its stupid. AND THE ROBOTS….NO JUST NO I COULD NOT WATCH AS IT MAGE ME CRIGE ALL THE WAY. i think its sad to say that it took russle t davis 6 years to build up what he did and it took steven moffat 2 years to take that way.
booboo
September 8th, 2012 - 9:57pmseems your in the minority, i really enjoyed it to be honest, some of the dialogue a bit over the top and Amy seems strange, Solomon was a brilliant villain
That Dinosaur over there
September 8th, 2012 - 9:58pmYou’re right. Doctor Who isn’t a comedy… And it’s not a drama. Doctor Who is a show where something new happens every week. One week, it can be a nice light hearted adventure (like this episode), the next it can be a dark, action adventure episode (like next week’s). 😛

September 8th, 2012 - 10:24pmI liked it, I’m enjoying this series a lot more than series 6 so far 🙂
Justininferno
September 9th, 2012 - 10:22amOtnumbered is certainly not in a minority – thre are plenty of fans, including myself who agree with that opinion, just possibly not on this forum which I think is really used by many younger fans. So don’t think you are alone Outnumbered as you are certainly not. The Moffat era has added nothing to the DW legacy apart from misjudged ideas (Teletubby daleks etc), bad design (the TARDIS). I can’t wait for the tell all book in 10years time which tells of the behind the scenes problems during this era!
The TARDIS
September 9th, 2012 - 11:46amIt depends on your personal opinions really. Younger fans will love it because of the dinosaurs and some older ones will enjoy it for some comic relief in what looks to be quite a gloomy series.
Dr who
September 8th, 2012 - 9:47pmI’m sure this is part of a big arc since trial of the time lord which introduced doctor dark, known as the valeyard, then the 7th doctor was darker and the doctors following are darker,so it has to be to do with the valeyard
TheWhomobile
September 8th, 2012 - 10:07pmI would love to see the Valeyard return, I really liked the character although I’m not sure this has much to do with it, but it would be nice.
The TARDIS
September 9th, 2012 - 7:22amI liked the Valeyard too, but I think the whole “The Valeyard’s coming” is going a bit too far – he isn’t the Doctor: He’s made from everything dark in the Doctor. And unless Matt Smith’s lying, in-between the 12 and 13th Doctor is a long way away.
dr who
September 9th, 2012 - 1:05pmnot that long add up all the clues
across david tennant era,the doctor was lonely,a god and had fury of a time lord,he was described as a destroyer of worlds an killed daleks and time lords and never carries guns.
time lord victorius, the doctor believes he can change fixed points, waters of mars
matt smith era he carries guns
the dreamlord is a hint at the valeyard, the dreamlord is the darker side plus we saw him in a reflection hinting he may return
the pandorica opens,we have the doctor as a wizard and god
he also kills whole races the silents, cybermen.
a good man goes to war,he is a warrior, this is the same as the pandorica opens
lets kill hitler, river says he can’t understand war or something and is peaceful, but he is not
then in the god complex,we have room 11 worst fear, most likely himself,he is too powerful
in the closing time and wedding of river song the doctor says he has lived too long and is too powerful
then we get the silence who fear the doctor answering the question at trenzalore, his true identity this seems to hint at something so terrible to happen, the valeyard could be that as he is terrible
then we get in series 7
the doctor’s mercy and dark side, killing soloman.
possibly more in atcm
all of this is about the doctors dark side in the end at trenzalore, when he is forced to answer the question,i think it will do something to form the valeyard or dream lord again.this will then see the doctor regenrate into his 12th form
when the doctor is in his 12th form eventually the valeyard will get powerful and appear somewhere near the 12th and 13th regenration.
the question is said to be a terrible event, focusing on the doctor being too powerful,so it has to be connected to the valeyard.
that is evidence, there is alot more as well like sylvester mccoy was darker and christopher ecclestone, this darkness and destruction will form the valeyard,or dream lord.
John Smith
September 12th, 2012 - 8:02amThe Doctor was performing very out of character when he left Soloman to die. Although it could be leading up to the whole thing of the Valeryard/Dream Lord returning.
The TARDIS
September 8th, 2012 - 9:44pmIt was a brilliant episode, although I think another 15 minutes would have helped make it more credible and feel less rushed. And when he effectively killed Solomon in cold blood, I couldn’t help but remember the uproar from Day of the Daleks and Vengeance on Varos. I have a feeling this is going to end badly – both on and off the screen…
foreverdalek 1323
September 8th, 2012 - 9:35pmi engoyed this episode, would have loved to see a T-REX awake and stomping around the space ship.
Dr who
September 8th, 2012 - 9:32pmThe doctor is becoming darker and as I said,I think the valeyard is coming, the question will be answered on Trenzalore, the doctor is becoming a murderer and hints at his dark side, dream lord and that, even Russell t Davies with the waters of mars gave hints at Matthew smith era,the valeyard has to come.
John Smith
September 12th, 2012 - 8:09amBut RTD has literally nothing to do with Doctor Who anymore beside Torchwood and the now canceled Sarah Jane Smith adventures due to the unexpected death of Elizebeth Sladen. May she rest in peace. I know that Steven Moffat says that he’s planning something big but you can never be too sure… If I was the head Writer and Exec producer of Dr Who I would definitely bring the Valeyard back. It’s an established point in Doctor Who’s history and can’t just be forgotten. I love the classic series and jump in joy when they show clips from it!
Radburn
September 8th, 2012 - 9:27pmIt would have been nice to actually watch it – Unfortunately the crappy digital signal drops in & out half-way through ruining a perfectly good episode’s viewing experience for me! Give me analogue any day!
The 14th Doctor
September 8th, 2012 - 9:15pmPure fun, which is what Steven Moffat’s series has lacked more than anything. Really, why can’t we have a dark opening and finale to each series, and have the middle episodes like this?
But yeah, the bit about breaking in was weird, and I was so upset that the Dinosaur died!
Even so, I’m not sure about the Doctor leaving Mr Filch to die was very good. For a dark and serious story, maybe yes, but not for a fun romp like this. It just didn’t feel appropriate. It’d have been better if he got handed over to the Judoon or something.
Ryan
September 8th, 2012 - 9:02pmVery funny, but, this episode should have been played as a jolly romp, as the tonally oposite merciless death of Solomon at the end, just felt wrong, considering the innuendo filled comedy romp with Dinosaurs we’ve just been watching! Very odd…. But, still, good performances, outstanding effects and suprisingly laugh out loud diolouge. 6/10

September 8th, 2012 - 9:11pmDo you think maybe the doctor being like that leads into a town called mercy?
joe (joeandteddy)
September 8th, 2012 - 9:02pmOut of the two episodes we have seen this series, this one was the best. by far.
Asylum of the Daleks was an extremely weak episode which was hyped way too much. This episode had very little hype and, in my personal opinion, was one of the best episodes since 2005. It’s definitely the best episode (so far) of the 11th Doctor.
I liked this episode so much because 1) a villain – Solomon – that i genuinely thought would get away with it. 2) the doctor is not acting like a child anymore. he’s not pratting around and we are seeing a much darker side to him, which i like. and 3) Rory’s dad was BRILLIANT! He should return.
10/10, much better than i expected and i liked the scaly Doctor Who logo in the opening credits. (i bet in episode 5 the logo will be made out of stone…)
Finally, the games hunter (riddel i think he was called – not sure though) The actor who plays him would be a brilliant Doctor i think.
Thats my mini review.
Joe,

September 8th, 2012 - 9:09pmi think Rory’s dad is returning in episode four the power of three

September 8th, 2012 - 9:49pmThey should do an episode all about Rory’s dad ,I like his dad,he funny.a Rory dad spinoff

September 8th, 2012 - 8:56pmThe dialogue was highly questionable, there is such a thing as too much innuendo. With adjustments to dialogue, this should have been on at 5.15 as it was definately for the children. Dull and boring. 3/10

September 8th, 2012 - 8:45pmI didn’t mind it. It got a bit too silly at times, but I’ll forgive that if next week lives up to it’s dark premise. The scenes with the Doctor and Solomon were definitely the best, though. 🙂
Next week looks absolutely brilliant! I can’t wait! 😀
That Dinosaur over there
September 8th, 2012 - 9:05pmAnd the Doctor letting Solomon die is certainly hint towards the darker side the Doctor seems to adopt in A Twon Called Mercy. 🙂

September 8th, 2012 - 8:40pmExcellent,an enjoyable space ship drama,i thought it was very good,i liked many things about it.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 8th, 2012 - 8:37pmit’s hard to compare with asylum of the daleks as it was a totally new idea. i thought it was really good. i was genuinely surprised! i think ep 1 had more action, but the characters were great. couple of things, i thought the villain was a bit weak, and there should have been a proper goodbye scene betweeen the doctor, and riddel and neferetiti. the beginning and the ends was a bit rushed. and the dinsaurs didnt do that much interacting with the doctor apart from the triceratops. plus points, amy was quite funny, music was great, acting was great, and there were some great scenes. cant wait till next week! i like the way he hinted about seeing amy till the end, it’s nice to have a little bit of a build up. anyone agree with anything i said?
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 8th, 2012 - 8:37pmand the silurian link was good.

September 8th, 2012 - 8:37pmQuite a fun episode, quite enjoyed it but one question.
Did the doctor actually just KILL someone? he never kills anyone. Only daleks and time lords it seems.

September 8th, 2012 - 8:54pmi just cant believe how emotionally attached i got to a cg triceratops and yeah it was kind of a shock when that happened however i felt that Solomon got exactly what he deserved
the astronaut of death
September 8th, 2012 - 8:33pmloved it brlliant
only 2 bad things about this ep
1. on the post card it was the wrong tardis
2. im starting not to like how the doctor goes on 1 adventure with amy and rory and drops them back of a there house and then 10 months later thers another adverture
but apart from that loved it i voted it fantastic 🙂

The TARDIS
September 9th, 2012 - 7:14amI was wondering about the RTD TARDIS, and I also think that Moffat should show us some “inbetween”adventures with the Doctor on his own – it stretched credibility that we only see the Doctors adventures every now and then as opposed to a series of them. When the Doctor said “I can’t forget the Ponds”, surely he’d say that every time! He’d want the Pond’s to see EVERYTHING. But yeah, I voted fantastic as well.
crazy guy
September 8th, 2012 - 8:27pmthat was awesome loved that bit with riddel and Amy shooting the dinosaurs with the music that was just epic. what i saw from the trailer for next weeks episode it will be the best one ever.

September 8th, 2012 - 8:26pmAt the start I thought it was a little silly, but it became quiet good from then on! I liked it and rated it good on the poll. I wonder why the Doctor KILLED Soloman! I think he is getting darker while he is away from Amy and Rory. Anyway, I am looking forward to the Gunslinger, The next time trailer looks really cool!
