This episode was okay, but left a few large holes in the plot.

    1. How did the creature lay another egg after it had just hatched? I can’t think of one creature that can do that.

    2. Webs. Why do the spider things create webs, what is the purpose of them other than make the atmosphere creepy.

    3. The Doctor completely leaving. I cannot remember one episode that the Doctor left completely and left us to our own devices, it isn’t exactly in his persona or personality to leave humans alone for big decisions.

This is what I think kinda went wrong in the episode, hopefully this won’t sound too rude.

      1. well I imagine that certain alien has a different reproducing cycle than most species

      2. well they use it to catch things like there pray ,in the moon base some of the Russian spacemen were pinned up on the wall by the webs so they just use it to catch things .just like normal spiders but the ones in kill the moon use different ways to kill

      3. he is a new doctor he acts differently to his past incarnations . he handles situation differently

My first thought on the whole moon/egg story was that it would end up being the star whale from series 5 that saved Britain… Sort of humanity saved the creature so the creature could save humanity loop!

It always takes a little time to accept a new doctor and let go of mourning the last – but in this episode I’ve let go of Matt Smith’s doctor and opened the door to Peter Capaldi’s – he’s found his feet – and Clara, as always, is just brilliant. Beautiful and emotionally complex episode.

Most disappointing episode. Did they end up in the Land of Fiction or somewhere where the laws of nature and physics have been misplaced?

The Moon causing problems by changing it’s mass(?), turns out to be an egg which hatches and then lays a replacement Moon(egg)?

How long before this second Moon/egg hatches?
Lots of plot holes, waste of acting talent and production values.
If any episodes from the current era need to be added to the missing episodes pile then I nominate this one.

First Robin Hood now this. What are they trying to do – dissuade the older fans who grew up with this series from watching?

DW has sometimes bent the rules and played around with (pseudo)science/fantasy – but nothing like this. It’s descending into a pantomime.

the new egg will just take the same time to hatch as the other egg (i thoght that was obious)

and you do realise doctor who is intended to be a kids show

what do you mean Land of Fiction it is a tv show about a man traveling in a blue box throgh time and space its all fiction

‘Land of Fiction’ – 2nd Doctor story (pocket universe) where fictional characters, mythical creatures exist and the laws of physics appear to be suspended.

Kids show – yes – but with a 50 year history there’s more than a handful of grownups around who also have an interest in it – besides, the show started out as an educational programme as well as entertainment (historical adventures didn’t always have to have a SF monster in it). If something is well written it doesn’t matter what age the audience is.

New egg taking the same time to hatch as the previous one – not necessarily. The Earth has changed, the sun has also changed over the course of billions of years as well. Is the new egg smaller – will it develop faster or more slowly – the environmental conditions that caused the Moon to hatch may change…

Answers to such questions are not always necessary, and would require too much exposition, which would both bog down the episode and not fit within the allotted time for the show. Simply because not every question is answered, or even that many questions go unanswered, should not automatically make everyone scream plot hole. Some details are simply not important to the story the author is attempting to tell. On another note, I would say that the stories this season have been much better tailored to fit the ~45 minute time slot.

There is and has always been a prerequisite willing suspension of disbelief when watching any science fiction program. If you want to attack scientific flaws, what about the Quarks recharging by waving their arms(which exerts their own energy), or the inconsistent application of the Blinovitch Limitation effect? What on earth does “Reverse the Polarity of the Neutron flow” mean? We love the show in spite of and because of such things.

I am probably among the smaller minority, but having returned to Dr. Who, after many years and catching up over the summer with every episode (at least 2-3x) from 2005 and on, also reigniting the entire fanciful and wonderful experience. I find myself a bit on the defensive, I like Peter Capaldi, I do not like him as the Dr., I do not like where he has taken the caricature and the writing has very much lost its way. I love Jenna/Clara but what happen to continuity “The impossible girl” who has saved the Dr. (albeit in background) throughout history, In fact she was I thought being developed as a reincarnation of each future companion. She was strong beautiful and smart, never afraid and the Dr. never put her in that position and never would. Sorry I have been a devoted fan but with each episode my interest is waning. Where I could watch an episode 2 to 3 xs just read each inflection, each nuance and repartee, now I can barely sit through an entire episode.
I hope I see something that changes my mind and piques my interest but I would like continuity and integrity to the historical story line, these characters all have long history and the writers seem to have abandoned much of it. I would like the Dr. to be true to the persona, That reignited interest through Eccelston, Tennant and Smith.

I am still supremely confident that Peter Capaldi will rank as one of the great Doctor’s. I am also glad to see human morals being examined via the Doctors apparent lack of them.
I am also okay with most of the writing the only problem I feel is that no one in pre-production office is saying “NO” to Mr Moffat when the story steps outside the laws of Physics (To quote from another famous show “Ye cannae change the laws of physics”).

Capaldi’s Dr is brilliant. Most of the stories have been excellent (obviously not the Sherwood one). Kill the Moon was however utter rubbish. Gaping holes like why did they have to get a shuttle out of the museum – what were the Mexicans using as a supply ship then? A rowing boat? And they were soon forgotten. Spiders that are germs? Germs with webs? Not to mention impressive gnashers. The moon as an egg? With the space beast laying another one of the same mass? Utter rubbish. It wasn’nt the space beast that laid the egg, it was the BBC!Very poor story and not up to the standard of the others.

Been disappointed with this series I think the doctor has potential but the characters don’t seem right to me. Clara does not seem to work well with Capaldi or Smith, resorted to watching fan films on youtube recently. although most are rubbish but to be fair cannot expect them to come up to professional standard others are certainly a good contender for Dr Who, Untimely Death to name one, problem is we have come to expect high standards from TV

Really. This site seems to have stopped publishing the viewing figures but this episode managed only 4.82 million viewers overnight. The Caretakers final result was 6.81 million, making it only the 20th most watched programme of the week.I think potentially Capaldi could be one of the best but it is time to get Moffat out he spends too much time giving interviews telling people how wonderful he is,more like a politician than a showrunner

I have been quite unhappy with this Doctor. Imagine if this episode had placed either Tennant or Smith in the same place – abandoning Clara (or Amy or Martha or Rose) to make a decision of this magnitude. What Capaldi lacks is the ability to exude compassion. Simply put, I would have enjoyed Kill The Moon about ten times more had it been Tennant and five times more had it been Smith. As for the writing, I agree with those that have pointed out that the schoolgirl is just distracting fluff.

Well I’m happy with this Doctor and I think he did a great job in Kill the Moon by leaving Clara, Courtney and the Astronaut to decide the fate of Earth because that shows that this new Doctor doesn’t want to interfear in events like that anymore. Also, I don’t think Tennant or Smith would of done it better than Capaldi.

Very odd episode. Love Clara (hot-blooded male here), but didn’t like her in this much (all-though she did look great through the episode). Egg-moon-egg was nonsense, and apparently the moon’s huge mass was causing huge tides, flooding cities, yet the tardis crew stood on a fairly normal beach. And the tide was out!
And is it me, or are the endings all just a little flaccid?

What’s going on this series, I have yet to see one that I enjoyed. I have loved Dr Who for years, but Peter Capaldi is not living up to expectations. Why is he so abrasive and angry all the time? In fact he was downright unpleasant in this last episode! And Clara threatening to ‘slap him so hard that he would regenerate’ …. A tot of kids were watching and I am nit sure it was appropriate. I found it uncomfortable viewing.

It was good. The bacteria were terrifying, and the whole morality plot made sense. The Doctor running away from an intense moral dilemma felt out of character, but the explanation kind of made sense. He didn’t want to interfere in one of humanity’s most important moments, and I can see the Doctor respecting humanity enough not to want to get in the way of them being impressive. I like how grimly realistic they were about the human race’s decision to kill the moon. All the supporting characters except the one astronaut lady felt underdeveloped, and I still don’t see what the point in Courtney Woods being a companion is. I don’t mind a teenager on the TARDIS, I mean, Ace is my favorite companion, but I would like SOME understanding of the character and who they are. My favorite scene would have to have been the one where the astronauts threaten to shoot the TARDIS crew, and the Doctor eggs them on, pointing out that, not only would they be shooting a kid AND her schoolteacher, but they’d also have to kill the Doctor himself several times before he finally died, all while doing gravity checks. That moment just felt do Doctory, and coming from a Doctor who only seems to act like the Doctor HALF of the time, it was really good to hear. It very much reminded me of the Seventh Doctor’s speech to the two snipers in The Happiness Patrol.

It was slight in the plot but the daft eggshell moon plot had a sort of late 70s feel to it. The sort of storyline douglas adams would have had a field day with. I don,t know why but i kept thinking of ‘the creature from the pit’. I do wish they would stop endorsing brand names. Pringles, zovirax, and ‘Tenalady’, a word i thought i,d never hear in doctor who. Also, i was disconcerted that they had one the courtney character stealing id to buy’white lightening and alcopops. Bit irresponsible in a family show. It wasn,t amusing or clever. I hope thats the last we see of courtney, the precocious schoolgirl. She serves little or no purpose between the clara/doctor relationship, even as light relief. I feel coal hill school is now blurring into weekly installments of waterloo road. also the guest stars and the weekly alien threat are underused and underwritten. Other than that there was a germ(no pun intended) of a good story in there

The character of the doctor was always
    1. Exploration
    2. Save earth

    1. He would never abandon a companion no matter what
    2. Has more empathy than most humans

All THIS IS MISSING WITH THE CURRENT DOCTOR!

Not always like that. Look at some of the early hartnell story’s. He was more for saving his own skin than saving the earth. He left Susan behind at dalek invasion of earth. William hartnell tom baker and Colin baker a lot of the time didn’t show empathy so this isn’t new. He wasn’t abandoning his companions. He was showing Clara has faith in her and Courtney.

I am a little bit it uncomfortable with Kill The Moon; firstly, what really was the point of Courtney?

I can understand Clara’s anger at being put on the spot by the Doctor; she knew the Doctor before he regenerated… and, don’t forget, she was partially responsible for that being possible… She begged the Time Lords for help…. but the man who walked away from the regeneration is not at all the same person. We all miss Matt Smith’s energy and charm but Peter Capaldi brings an entirely different dynamic. I still don’t know what Peter Capaldi will ultimately bring to Doctor Who, but am concerned that this series has lost it’s way a little. I am not certain that the narrative continuity worked in Kill The Moon; there was no rational behind the moon being an egg and even less about the newborn leaving a fresh moon exactly where its own egg had been. This is science fiction, but if you look at Asimov, Philip K Dick and Stephen King, back in the day, narrative continuity will justify any amount of surreal. I liked the tribute to Eddie Izzard’s “Cake or Death” sketch… “Maybe it wanted to find out what you taste like…. Chicken, apparently.” I hope I am not the only person to have picked up on this.
