What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?
What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?
The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special.
In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

November 24th, 2013 - 10:15amAbsolutely amazing! I am so glad I watched it in the cinemas, because the atmosphere was brilliant! As soon as David Tennant and Peter Capaldi made their first appearance, the crowd just went wild! Every now and then I would see someone lift their sonic screwdriver in the air and flash it! 😆
The special itself was excellent! Although I was expecting something different, it was still great. The Zygons were extremely awesome, but here is my question:
What happened to the Zygons?
The 13th Doctor
November 24th, 2013 - 6:14pmMaybe 10 and 11 dealt with them before saving Gallifrey?
Dalek Smith
November 24th, 2013 - 10:09amYou could just tell that when they started with the original opening titles it was going to be a great one. I loved the Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi cameos, John Hurt was incredible!. I think I can guess at what next seasons arc is (maybe). Finding Galifrey
Dalek Smith
November 24th, 2013 - 10:15amoh, there is one small issue, not enough classic series
Jonny Scoones
November 24th, 2013 - 10:46amI agree, I needed closure on the zygons story, what treaty did they come to, any one got an idea?
Dalek Smith
November 24th, 2013 - 11:00amperhaps they agreed to give the zygons a vortex manipulator so they could go back to the 70s, build a robot nessie and get beaten by the 4th doctor. Just a guess
Obsie
November 24th, 2013 - 11:38amZygons are duplicitous and lie. They can change their minds as often as their shape.
Daryl
November 24th, 2013 - 11:49amIf they moved Gallifray so all the Dalek ships destroyed each then surley the Daleks already on Gallifray it’s self would have been OK?
Daryl
November 24th, 2013 - 11:50amAlso who was John Hurt?????
Anonymous
November 24th, 2013 - 12:02pmDaryl….did you watch it?
Daryl
November 24th, 2013 - 1:03pmYes but was he the 8th Doc or another completly different one!?
Jammy2305
November 25th, 2013 - 12:46amThe true 9th… Go watch the prequel “The night of the Doctor” and see why. Although the 9th Doctor is still the 9th “Doctor”, he is now the 10th incarnation and so on. John Hurt is the 9th incarnation but doesn’t refer to himself as the Doctor.
Chris
November 24th, 2013 - 10:07amIt can’t be the same sonic! It was eaten by Prisoner One and then by a flying shark.
cyberman2
November 24th, 2013 - 10:09amBut from the same tardis which saved the software
Anonymous
November 24th, 2013 - 10:10amSame software…different case…no one ever said it was the same screwdriver.
Scott’s TARDIS
November 24th, 2013 - 9:56amSteven Moffat doesn’t decide how long it lasts. He gets given a time schedule by the BBC and that’s final.
Adam Sumnall (The Biggest Doctor Who Fan Thats Ever Lived)
November 24th, 2013 - 9:56amI loved John Hurt in that episode, He was funny and a proper classic doctor. Ten and eleven were talking about timey-wimey,geronimo and alloys and he had no idea what they were talking about. and when the three doctors were in a line-ten and eleven acting all cool and there was hurt not giving a care in the world! He was fantastic!

November 24th, 2013 - 9:37amJust wonderful…two questions….how did were the past incarnations summoned to help save Gallifrey – wonderful sequence but puzzled how it happened.
Also….what on earth was Tom Baker….?
The 13th Doctor
November 24th, 2013 - 6:16pmFuture Doctor revisiting an old face
The TARDIS
November 24th, 2013 - 9:25amI enjoyed it… But it wasn’t the fiftieth anniversary episode it should have been. It would have been a great anniversary episode for the new series, but as the episode for the history of the whole show, it fell a bit short. Tom Baker’s appearance was the only really special part. And I’m not entirely sure about the whole off to find Gallifrey biz. But hey ho, I’m sure lots of people think it as brilliant, and who’s going to argue with them?
sheepinafez
November 24th, 2013 - 9:25amso i gatherd that at the end of the doctors existance he turns back into an old tom baker and retires to earth(which is an amazing ending) what do you guys think oh and also THAT WAS AMAZING
dan23uk
November 24th, 2013 - 9:14amThe 50th David t was before his last episode referring to the master & time lords returned
DALEKSKITTLES
November 24th, 2013 - 9:08amSo, did anyone else get annoyed that a dalek fell to earth burning and survived, but in this episode some daleks get bumped by a tardis and they fall apart or they get pushed by a sonic screwdriver and fall over and burst into flames and die……really!? Daleks aren’t looking so powerful to me….
Booboo Jr
November 24th, 2013 - 9:15amAnd the Sonic is becoming too powerful.
Doctor PSY
November 24th, 2013 - 9:19amWith one sonic screwdriver, it’d take years, but with three…
DALEKSKITTLES
November 24th, 2013 - 9:45amHonestly don’t see how three sonic screwdrivers and kill a dalek :/ it’s really annoyed me, yer maybe the tardis has a shield on it do it could “bust” the daleks but the screwdrivers!!?? Really!!!!!!?
cyberman2
November 24th, 2013 - 10:11amIt just pushed it back what killed it was the fall out the painting
DALEKSKITTLES
November 24th, 2013 - 10:40amYet in 2005 a dalek survived a fall from space to earth!? But now they get pushed over and blow up?
100000BC
December 4th, 2013 - 4:27pmThat Dalek was part of the painting, and so removing it from the painting destroyed it as it wasn’t a real Dalek.
Matt Smithy
November 24th, 2013 - 9:04amWell, it’s your own fault for expecting to much. They had to make a decision and stick with it. Sure they COULD have had those companions back, but they wouldn’t just for the sake of it or it would ruin the story. Plus Tom WAS playing the Doctor… a future Doctor reliving old faces… And it didn’t need a key villain. It’s the 50th anniversary. If it was a normal episode what would be the point? It’s just made for you to sit and thing “wow, I love this show that’s been around for 50 years” and “oh, that was a nice reference/cameo”
Irene
November 24th, 2013 - 8:58amIt was fantastic….to see Tom Baker, David Tennant & Matt Smith celebrate with John Hurt & the breif but significant intro of Peter Capaldi was brilliant….I can’t wait to see what is store with the new season….here in Aus we can only but hope that there will be many more regenerations to come….Well done.
E.Brierley
November 24th, 2013 - 8:55amFor some years now I’ve been wondering how Gallifrey was going to come back, and now it has, when the doctor finds it again. Loved the episode can’t wait for Christmas.so,e newspapers are slamming it,saying Moffat as done a Dallas shower scene, meaning all the previous episodes don’t mean a thing ,don’t they realise that with time travel you can do anything………..
LEWIS
November 24th, 2013 - 8:41amI thought it was awsome I think David Tennant was funny but I still wouldn’t wnt him king of England even though I’m Scottish. I think he would still atract zygons and daleks to more places than just England 🙂
alison copeland
November 24th, 2013 - 8:19amSo in this new reality Hurt is the 9th Doctor and Capaldi will be 10 sooooo…plenty more regenerations to go in this new doctor time line…our 10,11,12 (Ecclestone, Tennant, Smith) don’t exist on Capaldis time line as a doctor as he comes before them in a now changed reality…..FANTASTIC…..But I could have done with some RIVER SONG…
LEWIS
November 24th, 2013 - 8:45amno you’re wrong Hurt is the ninth Ecclestone the tenth Tennant the eleventh Smith the twelvth and Capaldi the thirteenth
Doctor PSY
November 24th, 2013 - 9:27amBoth of you are wrong, I believe.
Moffat said at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations that he’s not re numbering the doctor, however, in theory John Hurt is the ninth doctor…
Before, he wasn’t referred to as ‘The Doctor’ but now after saving Gallifrey he has been referred to as the doctor… The ninth doctor.
JustCurious
November 24th, 2013 - 12:13pmExcept he doesn’t know that. Noone remembers that he never was he war doctor, except the eleventh.
Booboo Jr
November 24th, 2013 - 8:04amUsing the original title sequence was a nice way to pay homage to the shows first broadcast 50 years ago.
I reckon I’ll have to go back and watch the episode again to find all the references Moffat has thrown in!
timelord327
November 24th, 2013 - 7:34amThis was so good I’ve made a vow to forgive Moffat for series 6!
11matt
November 24th, 2013 - 8:56ami loved series 6
Matt Smithy
November 24th, 2013 - 9:09amThe Doctor’s Wife, A good man goes to war, Night terrors, The Girl Who Waited, Closing Time isn’t too bad when you watch back over it for what it is, The wedding of River Song, and most of the others were all ok. Infact the only episodes I didn’t like were Curse of the black spot, Let’s kill Hitler and the God complex.

November 24th, 2013 - 9:39amSeries 6 was great!
ROCKSTAR
November 24th, 2013 - 2:38pmSeries 6 wasnt that bad
DOCTOR WHO ONE
November 24th, 2013 - 7:10amI can’t believe Moffat clearly has found away to bring back Gallifrey and the Time Lord’s [all is forgiven Moffat, all is forgiven !!].
The only problem I have with the special is the that Doctors 1 to 8 help out save Gallifrey, when they all came before the Time War, so how exactly the got involved is confusing for me at the moment, but it was a real treat seeing them all right at the end.
And oh yeah, how come Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor made a brief appearance ?. His Doctor don’t exist yet.
timelord327
November 24th, 2013 - 7:35amWondering how Pete was there? The answers obvious i would have thought. Wibbly-wobbly, Timey-wimey
sheldon
November 24th, 2013 - 8:45amif you think about it, the only doctor that knew of what the three had done was matt smith’s so in turn that would mean that Capaldi’s Doctor would know also as he was after, and so he knew of the opportunity to help… as for the other doctors, all i can think, is that the Bad wolf(as im calling the weapon) must have created more time tunnels….
well that’s what i think… lol
Nice Baker Cameo also… this special makes up for quite a weak series, i’ll just believe that he was spending to much time writing this….

November 24th, 2013 - 4:04amWonderful! It was great to see Tom Baker again!!

November 24th, 2013 - 3:38amI’ve tried posting this a couple of times and it’s not showing up, so I’m sorry if this comment ends up repeating. I loved that Clara was teaching at Coal Hill School. I absolutely loved the inclusion of the sign for I. M. Foreman’s Scrapyard. I think that these were lovely touches that connected the 50th as well as the current incarnation of the show with its roots.

November 24th, 2013 - 3:32amTom Baker was brilliant!!

November 24th, 2013 - 3:14amLoved every bit of this, brilliant and fun and touching and thoughtful. I will watch it again and again. Thank you all the Drs and Moffat.

November 24th, 2013 - 2:45amI’m torn over the 50th. As a lifelong Whovian, there were parts that I loved and there were parts that I didn’t really care for all that much. I loved all of the Doctors being worked into the end, especially Hartnell as he’s always been one of my favorite incarnations of the Doctor. I loved the bantering between the Doctors. I loved the addition of Rose as Bad Wolf from her having absorbed the time vortex in the first series of the reboot. I loved that Clara has gone on to work as an educator. I love that Clara has a healthy friendship with the Doctor and that her life doesn’t revolve around him as opposed to many other recent companions who had very codependent relationships with him. I loved the addition of Jack’s vortex manipulator. There were a few gaping plot holes, especially inconstancies between The End of Time and the 50th… 10 and 11 already knew that Gallifrey wasn’t destroyed and was time locked, as seen previously in The End of Time. I really wish that we had gotten to actually see Jack. Why did Baker not ask Smith if he wanted a Jelly Baby?
Anonymous
November 24th, 2013 - 2:55amAnd I almost forgot… Yes, I know that it has been mentioned before that the Doctor married Elizabeth I. I always assumed that was just a joke. How is it that Elizabeth I is in love with/married to the Doctor? Yet, at the end of The Shakespeare Code during the third series of the reboot, she claimed that the Doctor was her worst enemy and wanted to have him beheaded?

November 24th, 2013 - 5:02amGallifrey was destroyed in The End of Time, the 10th Doctor sent it back into the time war just before the War Doctor used the moment.
Elizabeth made the Doctor her sworn enemy because he abandoned her after they got married.
And Tom Baker didn’t offer the 11th Doctor a jelly baby because he ran out
JustCurious
November 24th, 2013 - 12:19pmAnd now we know that it was not destroyed, but only the eleventh will remember that.
And it was not the fourth, but a future doctor
Hellbelly
November 24th, 2013 - 1:22pm@Anonymous – “The Shakespeare Code” is set in 1599, 37 years after the Doctor (accidentally) marries Elizabeth I, and then he does a runner and (presumably) doesn’t come back. Of course she’s mad at the Doctor.

November 24th, 2013 - 2:33amI loved it everything I expected
Doctor J
November 24th, 2013 - 2:29amAdventure in Space and Time told a brilliant story of how DW came to be and what it is today. The Day of The Doctor all I wanted from it was to tell a really good story and I’m very happy of how it’s turned out Matt David and John brilliant including Clara and Rose/Bad Wolf and to see Tom Baker. Love the Zygons hope to see them make future appearances
Only issue Queen Elizabeth in love with Ten.
I can’t wait for the Christmas Special and of course I’m sad for Matt Smith leaving but equally excited for Peter Capaldi and seeing him in the special.

November 24th, 2013 - 1:42amWhoah. Amazing.
Laugh-out-loud moments, high action and intrigue. all with a healthy dollop of great emotional character acting.
The plot was tight (although I can imagine right away that there will be people asking what happened with the Zygons), and the pacing was superb.
I like the little bit where Tennant’s Doctor has a double-take moment when John Hurt’s mentions the ‘Bad Wolf Girl’. It could be a throwaway comment, or a hint. Either way…
Oh – and that 12-TARDIS solution? Brilliant.
One slightly off note for me, a personal thing, was seeing just how old and frail Tom Baker has become. He was MY Doctor, and to see him in this was thrilling and sad at the same time.
Vive Doctor Who!
Silence Will Still Fall
November 24th, 2013 - 1:31amJohn hurt stole the show hands down! and it was lovely to see the 10 and 11 accept him as the doctor at the end. Did anyone else jump out of their seat when they saw mr capaldi? i know i did lol…… And does anybody else get the feeling he’s going to be the greatest doctor ever? because i do! but matt smith (my doctor) will undoubtedly be a hard act to follow. Here’s to another 50yrs. Geronimo!
