What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?
The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special.
In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

November 24th, 2013 - 9:16pmOut of sheer curiosity, could John Hurt’s “war doctor” be in dire danger of becoming a “war lord” as seen in “The War Games” had he gone ahead and destroyed Gallifrey?
Dalek the Supreme
November 24th, 2013 - 11:08pmNo, he would have become the same Doctor we saw in the 2005 resurrection, since he didn’t know Gallifrey survived until the 11th Doctor lived it.

November 24th, 2013 - 6:59pmjust hope this years Christmas episode is as good as last years as it is one of my all time favorites, brilliant story and music score to match,FANTASTIC!!!but I think matching david tenants departure will be a tall order.it has to be a good regeneration as I think paul mcgann was still short changed and john hurts was for no reason and didn’t show the 9th docs face.

November 24th, 2013 - 6:52pmI am confused, how come Matt Smith’s Dr. didn’t know that Gallifrey was frozen in time rather than destroyed when it reappeared just before David Tennants regeneration?

November 24th, 2013 - 11:51pmIn the end of time the dr says gallifrey was time locked and that the ood had shown him a prophecy, is it then beyond the realm of possibility that the timelords were returning AFTER the events of the day of the doctor where they were locked in time by the 3 doctors.

November 24th, 2013 - 6:30pmenjoyed it but didn’t live up to the end of time 2 episodes.russell t davies should have wrote this one,the privelige of bringing it back in 2005,his writing outshines moffets.why when tenant hears its been bad wolf doing things he doesn’t make more of it,also why is the 11th doc now 1200yrs old,in the fantastic trailer of all 11 docs he says 900yrs!!sadly wasn’t as good as I hoped as I hoped to hear more of murray gold older themes which were missing.bit confusing about 4th doc/tom baker but great to see him.

November 24th, 2013 - 6:45pmYou are kidding – the end of time were without doubt the worst DW I’ve seen in 35 years. They had so much promise but utterly failed to deliver. The whole Master race sub plot was embarrassing – no wonder DT was so keen to take part in the 50th after the awful send off he got.
Dalek the Supreme
November 24th, 2013 - 11:14pmThe Doctor said he forgot if he was lying about his age or not. The musical score is still written by Murray Gold, so why is it so bad that he isn’t recycling older tracks? I sense you’re one of the people who stopped liking the show when David Tennant left?

November 25th, 2013 - 2:02pmagree about the end of time, and the last of the time lords as well, both season finales with the master, both some of russell t davies worst writing. i enjoy most of his stories, journey’s end is suberb but the two master stories are just awful. day of the doctor was brilliant…

November 24th, 2013 - 5:02pmEnjoyed both fish doctor thing and the 50th special. Really think Colin Baker should of been in the Day of Doctor. I know he’s not quite the Colin he used to be, but he hasn’t appeared in Doctor Who since the end of his original run has he? Give him a chance hated Colin’s Doctor but he is both a lovely person and should be given a chance to repair the damage that was done in the 1980’s.

November 24th, 2013 - 4:44pmThis was absolutely brilliant. I have been a very tough critic of Doctor Who recently (for a couple of years) and I gave two very difficult conditions to see if the BBC were truly making the most of the 50th Anniversary. Both of those conditions were met.

November 24th, 2013 - 3:30pmI loved the ” Day of the Doctor” BUT they messed up…..they squeezed John Hurt in between Paul McCann #8 and Christopher Eccleston #9. When you watch the show with McCann , he turns into Eccleston,,,so it does not make sense. They could fix this by changing the end of McCann to change into Hurt, then make a couple of shows and then have Hurt change to Eccleston. Also River song gave up the rest of her 9 regenerations to save the doctor in one of the shows, so he should live on past Matt Smith for 9 more doctors…..This would be the only way I figure the show could flow properly from #1 right through to the future of 20 or 21 doctors.
fish from space
November 24th, 2013 - 3:47pmwe’ve never seen mcgann regenerate into eccleston
karen deslauriers
November 24th, 2013 - 4:42pmyou’re right, McGann doesn’t change at the end and Eccleston just shows up. But I still think that to put John Hurt in between them would make for more shows if they did show a change from McGann to Hurt to Eccleston…..even if it were one show……I also still think the doctor can go on to 20 or 21 lives because of the lives River Song gave to him.
TheDoctorWhoGeek
November 24th, 2013 - 6:17pmHave you watched the prequel for the show? You see McGann regenerate into John Hurt 🙂 And then at the end of ‘DotD’ we see Hurt regenerate into Eccleston (though we don’t see Eccleston’s face) I also dont have a clue what you meant about living ‘past’ Matt Smith for 9 more Doctors..
karen deslauriers
November 24th, 2013 - 7:36pmFor the series to continue with more doctors past Matt Smith, he will need to regenerate. Since they only get 12 regenerations plus their original body for a total of 13 , the series can’t go to much further…. In one of the shows with the characters Emily Pond , Roary and River Song,,, River gives the rest of her regenerations to the doctor to save his life ( I figure about 9 left)……River is Emily and Roary’s daughter conceived in the Tardis… The Tardis added Time Lord DNA into her at conception, which makes it possible for her to regenerate. TADA more Doctors to continue the series another 25 to 30 years.
Dalek the Supreme
November 24th, 2013 - 11:16pmKaren, the Doctor probably doesn’t realize this yet. And they’re called Amy and Rory, by the way.
Jammy2305
November 25th, 2013 - 12:25amOh dear… Where to start?
When Hurt regerates, Eccleston’s features are CGI’d in (Namely his eyes and darker colour of hair. Add this to the fact that the final credits show McGann, Hurt and Eccleston in that order, it confirms that, well… That’s the order!
Secondly, only the Timelords can grant a full new cycle of regerations. Capaldi is the final incarnation but Gallifrey has now returned. If Capaldi’s Doctor finds Gallifrey then there’s every chance that, for saving the planet, he will be rewarded a new cycle and the show will continue with 13 more incarnations.
Hopefully that makes sense…
P.S Definately Amy and Rory 😉

November 24th, 2013 - 2:50pmSorry let me rephrase that. Does anything now known or seen in ‘The Day of the Doctor’ muck up anything we know or seen with the Time Lords in ‘The End of Time’. Thank you.

November 24th, 2013 - 3:49pmSeems to me this is consistent with “end of time” it’s all of the comments about destroying the doctors etc and walking around with long faces that are inconsistent.

November 24th, 2013 - 6:15pmno, the rassilon sequences could take place before the doctors removed gallifrey as both end and day take place on the last day of the time war. err, i think! best not to worry about it really!
100000BC
November 24th, 2013 - 7:15pmThe End of Time seems to be set during the events of the Day of the Doctor from the Time Lords’ perspective, as a Time Lord during End says “The Doctor has the moment.” Therefore, logically, it takes place between when JH and ‘Rose’ leave Gallifrey and when the Doctors turn up and save the day.
Jammy2305
November 25th, 2013 - 12:33amRassilon and the High Council were acting from the capital city whilst the High Command was operating from Arcadia, Gallifrey’s second city. Both events are happening during the last day of the war. The fall of Arcadia was probably the final tipping point for Rassilon to initiate his plans for the end of time. However, he was “defeated” by the Master before anything could happen. Meanwhile back in Arcadia, the Doctor’s were planning to freeze Gallifrey (In which they succeeded). Thus nothing from “The End of Time” has been changed. Hope this helps 🙂

November 25th, 2013 - 12:33amAlso this means The Master lives on!
100000BC
December 4th, 2013 - 4:17pmLook no further than two lines spoken by Time Lords, one from each story. In DotD we are told “The High Council is in session” whilst during the meeting being discussed, in TEoT, we are told “The Doctor has the moment” which is discovered by the Time Lords in DotD, who are discussing about “The High Council is in session”, etc.

November 24th, 2013 - 1:01pmPlease help. How did they get back to earth? I thought they were stuck in the Drs time stream on Trenzalore?
Why did the bomb appear as Rose Tyler to reassure the Dr (John Hurt) when he would not have met her before? Would it not have been more reassuring for her to appear as an earlier companion he had met?
Why is David Tenant’s Dr banging on about destroying the time lords when in the 2009 TV Story the End of Time he relocks them up in time to stop the time war. Unless that happened after this, but then Matt Smith would remember that anyway. But as all 13 Doctors were in on the final act wouldn’t they all know what they have done anyway? Why make a big fuss of the 50th Anniversary and then only really use the last two Dr’s and a made up Dr. Surely they could have used Mcgann’s Dr instead of Hurt’s it would have made as more sense of “the lost years”. And taking the use of The fantastic Tom Baker as an anniversary indulgence why did they have the wit to use the other Doctors in an equally imaginative way. Yours confused and slightly disappointed.

November 24th, 2013 - 4:40pmi guess moffat is saving the dr escaping trenzalore for another story, the xmas special is on trenzalore, the fall of the 11th. the conscience of the moment appeared as rose, someone he cares for in his past/future she says, rose is arguably the companion he has loved the most, bad wolf has had significance in his future too.
who rules
November 24th, 2013 - 6:17pmthey didn’t need to “escape” trenzalore. the dr and clara could just step out of his time stream and then they and the pasternoster gang would just pop in his tardis and off they go. still, might have been nice to see them do that!
TheDoctorWhoGeek
November 24th, 2013 - 6:24pm1) They got back to Earth through the TARDIS, it was in the background when Hurt was revealed I thought – either way it was something wibbly wobbly timey wimey that we don’t need to concern ourselves with
2)The moment thought Rose was a past companion, as she ‘always’ gets past and future mixed up.
3)He bangs on about them cos he’s obviously upset, the End of Time occurs after this, and Rassilon threatened Earth, as did the Daleks etc (if Rassilon swapped Earth for Gallifrey then Earth would be getting attacked by Daleks)
4) The Doctors all forgot about it afterwards (we know this ‘cos Tennant and Hurt forget about it)
5) Moffat wanted a big reveal, which was the inclusion of a new Doctor (not a made up one, because the War Doctor is canon, yet you could argue that all the Doctor’s are ‘made up’
6)They couldn’t use all the Doctor’s as cameo, as then the episode would have just been the Doctor talking to random old characters that bear resemblance to his past selves.
Hope that cleared stuff up
100000BC
November 24th, 2013 - 7:21pmThe End of time, from the 10th Doctor’s perspective, has to take place after Day because he regenerates at the end! From the Time Lords’ perspective, End takes place during Day, as according to a Time Lord, “The Doctor has the moment”, implying that he has taken it but not saved the day (both of which he does during this episode).
100000BC
November 24th, 2013 - 7:26pmA special with too many Doctors can be quite crowded, especially if you want a other characters and a story as well!!!
Also, it’s the Doctor’s own time stream; surely he just left because he knew the way out!!!

November 24th, 2013 - 12:22pmok, night of the doctor. the doctor is dead when he arrives on karn, the sisterhood bring him back to life for a short period, then give him the elixier to trigger a controlled regeneration, so yes, hurt is the 9th doctor. however, the next doctor (ecceleston) refers to himself as the ninth doctor, chosing to forget “the war doctor” so eccleston is 9th doctor, ninth regeration, tennant tenth doctor/tenth regeneration and so on. In case you are wondering, i just checked night of the doctor with the subtitles on and yes it is stated that the doctor is dead! this won’t clear this up as it can be changed by an writer who wishes! oh, if capaldi is the 13th and last doctor, how about at the end of his run, he saves gallifrey and the time lords give him a new regeneration cycle in gratitude? just a thought…

November 24th, 2013 - 6:01pmtotaly agree thats the way round it after all they gave the master a whole new set of regenerations for saving the doctor in the trial of a timelord
TheDoctorWhoGeek
November 24th, 2013 - 6:26pmI assumed that the Time Lords would grant the Doctor more lives as he ‘froze’ them and fixed the Time War. Either that or because the 13 lives rule is implemented by the Time Lords (i.e. they could live past 13 but the Time Lords terminated life after then) the Doctor will just continue until the Time Lords catch him (or not as they’re in their little bubble – like a painting)

November 24th, 2013 - 12:05pmI went to the cinema to see it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My own personal preferences is weight, gravity and drama, as portrayed in Night Of The Doctor, and not been big in appreciation for the Moffat/Smith era as this has too often been substituted for comedy, childish tantrums and clowning about. So, I went with no expectations, for good and certainly not for ill. I enjoyed the story, the part everyone played in it and how the character acting bounced off each other to provide the contrasts; a great ensemble piece. Overall, yeah, good stuff, and to repeat myself cos I can’t be bothered to use a different superlative whilst drinking tea, I enjoyed it, very much.

I’m sure it started to morph into Peter Capaldi. And there’s no reason why it shouldn’t!!!

November 24th, 2013 - 10:48amThis could also explain earlier comments about Hurt being the 9th and 10,11 & 12 not existing in Capaldi’s time line.
