Nice that Elisabeth Sladen was mentioned just before the episode began, but why not Nicholas Courtney as well ?, his death was totally ignored by BBC News as far as im concerned, but you’de have thought the BBC would have including him with Liz with a quick mention also, seriously, did nobody at the BBC ever truly value Nick other then us fans ?,

Frankly, I think, for the hype they tried to generate, and just for the SEASON PREMIERE, it was a little slow. It did make me think, BUT matt didn’t feel like the doctor for most of the episode. He was a little to sane! and it was a little too teeth-pullingy with the whole them not telling him about his future. It was a really great episode, don’t get me wrong; it just didn’t have the BANG that a season premiere should. Just my two cents.

Yeah i know that, ive been a fan for many many years but Moffat goes way too far with the timey wimey claptrap such as the Big Bang rubbish season finale last year. I would love a season of unconnected stories for a change! Saying that, i have just rewatched it on BBC I-Player and it works better after a second viewing.

So, if The Doctor is really dead then is the show over? Did the BBC cancel it and just not tell us? Or is he gonna find a way around his own death and keep on going till his next proper regeneration? And what about River Song? Who is she? Is she Amy’s daughter? Or is she just another human The Doctor happens across? Am I over thinking all of this too much?

It is a show about time travel 😉

I know people keep saying they don’t like it because it’s too confusing, but surely that’s the point. The story didn’t fail to make sense. The plot worked. It simply left lots of unanswered questions which I’m fairly sure is the point of a cliff hanger. Moffat has done amazing writing in past series’ and seems to be continuing the trend. I think he’s encouraging kids to think harder, which makes it more enjoyable for adults too.

This is classic Doctor Who. I absolutely loved it!

@Simon W what River whispered in the Doctor’s ear was his true name. It was established in Silence in the Library that that is what she said to him. Setting up the idea that she knows a lot about the Doctor and how much trust he had put in her sometime in the future by telling her his real name.

Too much timey wimey nonsense. Too confusing, some nice elements but for JOE PUBLIC and most of us fans not very straight forward. Certainly not the best season opener, tho the Silence are very good.

Well the bad thing that is going to happen to her was explained in The Impossible Astronaut. In the episode where she said she fears the time when the Doctor meets her and he does not know her. She thinks that is the time she will die. That was a nod to the two parter in series 4, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.

this was a really good episode i think the silence looks like a really great monster and also great filming it in 1969 and in america, but the only probally i find confussing is the astronaut, why is it a little girl?when the little girl is ment to been scared of the astronaut and with the doctor regenerating i think the 11th doctors great i reckon hes more of a time traveller than use to be.
and i really wanna know who river is and why somthing bads goin to happen to her????????

This is without doub’t the best episode i’ve seen since the dalek story in season 4 and the Tennant regeneration story, daleks my number 1, or will this story take over, we’ll see next episode.
I think the silence have started this series and i think they will most likely finish the series in a 2 part season finale.
Todays episode posed quite a few interesting questions to be answered as the series progresses, and i doub’t if we will get all the answers this year.
the biggest qusetion of all is… if the present Doctor died on that beach then is this the Doctors final regeneration… ‘ i doub’t it ‘ but it will be interesting to see how Stephen Moffat sorts that one out, especially as the story line confirmed that it was the Doctor who died.
Keep up the good work guys, and by the way… Matt Smith is fantastic, Matt Smith is the Doctor.

yer a good start to the new series,,, we should have known that Amy was having a baby with the Doctor say that he could see that she had put weight on… HaHa Ha

With the killing of the Doctor i, think that it’s River which is Y she could not kill herslef after the deth of the Doctor in the “Ep” which would also make it river who is the gril in the suit…

And am liking the sound of her being Amy’s daughter but i just con’t see it…

    just WHO is RIVER SONG!!!!

It was a very good start to the series! I am looking forward to the next episode to see what happens. I had two favourite bits from this episode, the one where the Doctor says that his special straw makes his drink fizzier and where Rory sees all of The Silence and then turns around and says, nope, nothing there.

I dont think the Silents were as scary in this as the Doctor Who Adventures mask

The episode wasn’t well written and was convoluted from the start. There was a section about 40 minutes in where the doctor was taken off the screen and forgotten. If he was looking for the cause he wasn’t looking very hard. He became a secondary not a lead character in his own drama. He wasn’t given enough exciting scenes to make this episode a good start to the new series. If he is the doctor what was he suposed to be doing. Not a lot really. Lazy writing. 3 out of ten. the special effects was where the entertainment showed and not with the doctor.
