December 29th, 2013 - 11:14amI must voice my displeasure at this episode. The first 50 minutes were nail biting, very good indeed. But by the end I felt that this was not a fitting goodbye to Matt Smith. I mean come on, surely 11 needed a more dynamic exit? And Amy bloody Pond coming back… ugh. Isn’t her story done? And Rory has done way more than Amy so why wasn’t he there??? And the half-a-millisecond regeneration was diabolical and just lazy of the BBC. And then Capaldi running around screaming in a Scottish accent! I don’t have anything against it, but it sounded a lot like he was putting it on too much. This episode isn’t in my good books – 2/5
Doctor Stu
December 29th, 2013 - 11:42amAmy was the eleventh doctors main companion like rose to David Tennant so it was only fitting that she came back
Dalek the Supreme
December 30th, 2013 - 1:09amSo you liked almost the entirety of the episode, but give it a rating of less than half? Also, the reason for the short change was because the big part of the regeneration came with destroying the Daleks, and honestly, what makes moping about change and acting like the next Doctor isn’t the Doctor better than reflecting on what we’re leaving behind, but still looking ahead to what the next Doctor will bring?
DoctorArkham
December 30th, 2013 - 10:34amThe rating is based on the regeneration sequence/outcome. If I had to rate this episode it would get at least 3. I’m really excited for Capaldi’s Doctor but I think that he needs to tone down the accent and make it less apparant. I found that Amy returning was emotional- but was it really necessary? There are an infinite number of possiblilites that could’ve been done, but Amy’s return was easily the most predictable.
DoctorArkham
December 30th, 2013 - 10:37amAlso, in this Crack In Time arc, there is a plot hole. The Cracks in Time closed when the Doctor averted the destruction of the TARDIS in 2010, does this mean that Gallifrey caused the TARDIS to explode in a future series?

What happened to the turkey and did it make the

Not sure if this episode was a turkey and so I will watch it a couple more times.
Clara as ever holds it together.
will she be able to have the same flirty chemistry with Capaldi.. probably not appropriate .. so cant see her fitting in
maybe wrong..
another scots accent with capaldi
well done matt… I think the Snowman episode still one of my favourites.. great music too.,.

my biggest issue was that there were so many commercials it was choppy,, I was alittle disappointed really,, I think I either missed a lot of the episode or it was confusing and part did not really make sense,, and then the very ending,,

December 28th, 2013 - 6:22pmI have noticed a tiny plot hole when the 11th doctor regenerated into capaldi. capaldi should have been seen whereing matts wig and the wig would have not regenerated
Dalek the Supreme
December 28th, 2013 - 8:57pmThe Doctor was protecting Trenzalore for centuries. Since his hair aged, it’s safe to say that it grew back while he was battling Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, and all those others.

December 28th, 2013 - 6:07pmAfter watching it again I enjoyed it a bit more but I’m still annoyed he didn’t say Geronimo.

December 28th, 2013 - 5:41pmI think it helps to watch the episode again a couple of times which i normally do as we all miss something on the intial viewing, on the whole it was a good episode and had a lot to live up to compared to the 50th aniversary!
Maybe it could have been a little better and i have seem comments about the regeneration scene being too short?
From what i see this was a two stage regeneration with the initial phase on the clock tower (reset?) after getting his new life cycle, phase two was in the tardis which was a little quicker than what we are used to. don’t forget what the doctor said about that regeneration being a little longer than normal and i wonder if that is due to his “rebirth?”.
As for Peter Capaldi i have every confidence we are in for something special with his take on the new Doctor! Roll on 2014!
timelord327
December 28th, 2013 - 4:03pmIthink that the story should havebeen a 2 paerter like tens last. This would have allowed SM to, let it flow and giving more indepth detail to ‘Christmas’ and ‘Handles’. Not ONE ‘Geronimo in the entire episode, bit diapointed. I think that by having a quick regeneration it got rid of the tension and shocked the viewers by giving something they’re not used to. (that was a good thing) 8/10 Moffat- OK, but nowhere near DOTD.
😉

December 31st, 2013 - 1:45amIf it were a 2 parter, then viewers would have been tuned off of BBC, and BBC AMERICA.

December 28th, 2013 - 2:48pmI quite enjoyed it. Yes it had its pacing issues. Yes it should have been longer and yes, I still believe SM should go and hand over to MG. But over all I quite enjoyed it. Better on a second viewing.
Im amazed at the number of people making bold statements about PC as he was only in it for a few seconds. Lets hope that when the series returns he will bring more gravitas and ‘old school’ Doctor with him instead of the childish, schmaltzy stuff we’ve had of late.
Lets also hope that Clara stays around for a while. Second best assistant (to the great Sarah Jane)inmy humble opinion.
Jon Patrick Hartnell
December 29th, 2013 - 10:13pmCouldnt agree more. Lets hope for more Doctors 1 – 4 stuff. Would love to see a darker Doctor. Also agree about Clara and Sarah Jane.

RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
December 28th, 2013 - 1:45pmI thought I would watch it again before I said anything, but I still found it not that great. The plot was a miss mash and moved too quickly, and too many story arcs were answered. I think the Crack in Time should’ve been left alone, as series 5 was Matt and Steven’s test series. The Silence didn’t have a major part and just got slated by the old Daleks, which should’ve been the new ones. Not fond of the growing old thing either as I think the Doctor should’ve been allowed to be him for his last episode, not restricted by a walking stick. I still don’t know why the monsters all wanted the Doctor, as he wasn’t saying his name anyway, and again Clara saved the day and stole the show as she made the TL’s give the Doc more lives.
It was great to see Amy at the end, and part of me thinks she should’ve just stuck with him for his whole era, as the Crack was essentially her story. She could’ve upped and left Capaldi saying ; I don’t want to forget my Doctor’ or something like that. Would’ve been nice to see Rory there too, he could’ve just come on with Amy. Also the 11th Doctor’s last line was well written, and the regeneration wasn’t too bad.
Capaldi will be great, although he was just like Matt’s entrance, and I think he should’ve been like the 6th Doctor. Also the TARDIS was randomly crashing…
I was quite disappointed with the whole thing, at many moments it got good, then fell a bit flat.
Professor When
December 28th, 2013 - 3:50pmAgree mostly. 🙂
I wonder if the Tardis was in a strop about the Doctor regenerating, an that is why it was crashing? 😀

December 28th, 2013 - 9:56amThe new doctor has zero charisma. The plot of this final episode with MAtt Smith was poor. SO disappointed.

December 28th, 2013 - 10:41amThat’s a big assumption for 30 seconds of screen time.
TheBritishCupOfTea
December 28th, 2013 - 5:09pmRos, you’ve seen less than 30 seconds of Peter Capaldi as the Doctor so far, so you cannot judge him on that short clip. Also remember, he’s still loopy after regeneration.

The Renegade
December 28th, 2013 - 3:31amThe line about the kidneys was disappointingly predictable and silly. The only other thing I didn’t like both in this and the 50th anniversary episode is the lack of funky Time Lord Weaponry. The Doctor is fine blowing up enemies all over the place but stands defending Christmas in both siege and open war against all his enemies without a single serious weapon?
TomBakersBiggestFan
December 31st, 2013 - 3:54pmSo, The Renegade, you are seriously telling me that you predicted that PC’s first words as the Doctor were going to be about his kidneys. I highly doubt that. -_-
Marcus
December 28th, 2013 - 1:44amIt was anti climactic and had a claustrophobic atmosphere to it(The Dr. just forgets earth and disappears for 300 years? I wonder what happened to UNIT).All in all Im happy with the changes S Moffat made. Im glad the worst of RT Davies’ideas were rolled back. It was a good to bring back Gallifrey and I loved John Hurt in the Day of The Doctor. Capaldi is a throwback Doctor, he seems like one of the originals. I cant wait for the new episodes.

December 27th, 2013 - 8:01pmJust re-watched the episode again and enjoyed it much more than the initial viewing. That’s the great thing about Moffat scripted episodes there is always much more to see and hear than on first viewing. The writing was sharp, clever and witty. The production values remain extremely high. The actors, writers & crew are at the top of their game.

December 29th, 2013 - 3:04amSorry but every entrance iv seen has depicted the new doctor perfectly everytime. Matt has me thinking he would be great from all of the 30 seconds we saw him after david T’s regeneration.
Capaldi on the other hand came out looking like a drunk. Possibly homeless. He just isnt doing for me. I was massively disapointed the second I saw him.
Oh and the doctor not knowing how to fly the tardis????
I cant beleive people are being payed to choose awful actors.

December 27th, 2013 - 6:04pmI thought at first that clara was seeing the capaldi looking like the 11 th doctir like he was because of the hologram thing with the clothes. Then he started having hallucinations. Not the best resolution to to multiple season arcs.

December 27th, 2013 - 5:18pmI don’t know why so many people are complaining about having an older actor to play the doctor considering the show stated with an old actor who was brilliant and then again we had pertwee who is one of my favourite doctors I think people need to give capaldi a chance I think he’ll be brilliant
The astronaut of death
December 27th, 2013 - 5:21pmYeah I remember when Matt started everyone was saying that he was to young and he would be terrible and look at him now he is a brilliant doctor

December 27th, 2013 - 3:41pmThey were 4 key things that got me annoyed with Steven Moffat, he shouldn’t of changed the TARDIS in the Snowmen, it should of sayed the same since 2010 and He shouldn’t of changed his clothes because it was better in his tweed jacket and everything also the series 6 and 7 splits, it was stupid and also what really made me annoyed is that Matt Smiths final words weren’t Geronimo!
Jamie
December 27th, 2013 - 4:11pmIm glad his last words weren’t Geronimo that would have been very predictable and disappointing. And personally I like the newer TARDIS console room more than the previous one.

December 27th, 2013 - 4:11pmIt was a good episode the down side no good last words and i dont like capaldi
McGann is the Doctor
December 27th, 2013 - 4:19pmanonymous: the Tardis was changed because the 2010 set could not be moved from the old building to the new one
it is also an improvement because it looks like a real high working Time machine instead of a cosy little “wizards cupboard” as Moffat says
can you imagine “Journey to the Centre of the Tardis” with the 2010 room? there would be no tension! 😆
Defender of Trenzalore
December 28th, 2013 - 12:01amThe current TARDIS is perhaps THE best design yet, and far better than the 2010 one, Matts’ ‘new’ look was amazing and his last words were brilliant!
But I do agree about season splitting being awful

December 27th, 2013 - 3:26pmI have a theroy that may answer why his regeneration was so quick.
When Clara opened the tardis , you saw his cloths all over the floor.
He’d already changed, Clara was seeing him young and perhaps what the tardis wanted her to see. Then being grabbed by peters dr, kinda shaped her out of her trance. Don’t forget he’d gone through a powerful regeneration on top of the tower.

December 28th, 2013 - 10:54amI think that regeneration was just so powerful as he’d just got more lives, so for the next they should have it like tennent to smiths but have a different effect. Something like the regeneration on top of the chuch tower with like molten liquid stuff shot out of his hands, like we was in TTOTD, just not as powerful or big.
WhovianinTexas
December 29th, 2013 - 1:02amHere’s the deal with the Dr’s regeneration. I’ve seen several regenerations and only nine and ten had ‘golden light shooting out their fingers’ (oh–and The War Doctor as well). The rest just faded into the next Dr., JUST LIKE Matt Smith did. So the regeneration of THIS doctor was more true to the ORIGINAL first NINE Doctors. As for Americans believing THEY are ‘the biggest fan base’and the BBC needs to let them call the shots–I say B.S. Dr. Who had MAJOR fans everywhere in the WORLD before the Americans ever even saw their first Tardis. As for the whole show–I wanted it to be longer….maybe two full hours. Satisfied though. Fitting ending for Matt Smith.
