Bernard Cribbins 1928 – 2022

Doctor Who and Wombles actor Bernard Cribbins has died aged 93, his family has confirmed.
During a career that spanned seven decades, Cribbins narrated the 1970s children’s programme The Wombles.
He also played Dr Who’s companion Tom Campbell in the 1966 film Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150, returning 41 years later in the revived series.
He played Wilfred Mott, Catherine Tate’s grandad in Doctor Who from 2007 to 2010.
At the age of nearly 90, he published an autobiography looking back on his years in show business in 2018. Its title was Bernard Who? 75 Years Of Doing Absolutely Everything – and its advice was simple.
“Do your best and be grateful for every single job”.

But we shouldn’t be too sad about someone who at nearly 94 had a good innings.And we can still look forward to seeing him in the specials.RIP

July 28th, 2022 - 2:52pmA very sad day indeed. Bernard was a big part of my childhood, especially The Wombles & Jackanory, his voice was like a warm cosy blanket on a cold winter’s afternoon. As a lifelong Dr Who fan it was fantastic to see him return to play Wilfred, one of my favourite characters of New Who by the way. He was fantastic on Would I Lie To You also, very witty man. I’m so glad he got the chance to come back once again as Wilfred, now that will be really emotional to see. A true legend of the industry & more importantly, one of life’s humble good guy’s. RIP Mr Cribbins. You’ll be sorely missed.

July 28th, 2022 - 12:33pmNot many Doctor Who actors can say the starred in both the series and a film adaptation, he always brought that warm charm whenever he was on screen and youthful drive when starring alongside Peter Cushing. Such an amazing actor.
I do hope he is honored when the next series airs.

July 28th, 2022 - 5:26pmEvery line out of his mouth as Wilf is just the epitome of warmth and gentleness. A scene that often gets overlooked is partners in crime, Donna and Wilf just talking and laughing on the hill. Pausing the plot to just let these two actors work their magic. He was the nations grandad just as he was Donnas. And he’s going to be missed.

First David Warner, then Bernard, both having done something for the 60th. Will be bittersweet to hear/see them again.
I know we’ll all be sad about Bernard. Shame I never got to meet him. Hope his family is doing as ok as they can.
