Welcome to The Tardis – The Doctor Who Experience

Doctor Who Experience – Welcome to The Tardis

What’s one of the first things any Doctor Who fan would want to do? I suspect to visit the Tardis – Well now you can, for a limited time this summer the Doctor Who experience are offering visitors the chance to tour the actual set used in the currant series, not in the experience, but in the very studio at Roath Lock where the programme is filmed.

Thanks to BBC Worldwide we were lucky enough to be in one of the first parties to step foot on the set, needless to say its an experience not to be missed, the set is completely enclosed so the thought that you are in studio at all soon disappears, in fact the outside world suddenly seems very distant – its somewhere where you feel you want to stay for a while.

I think in this case we will let the pictures do the Talking…

Also on offer are walking tours to filming locations around Cardiff, its actually quite fascinating finding out how some of the buildings and interiors were used, not just for Doctor Who but Torchwood as well. From Derelict buildings to Sand dunes its well worth adding this attraction to your day out. We have not included any pictures of the tour as they may somewhat spoil the surprise of how buildings and interiors are used. Its much better to see them for yourselves.

The Experience also has a number of new addition from series 7b so a return visit is well worthwhile if you havnet been for some time. You cna see some of the more recent additions along with some of the long standing props in the gallery below.

Press release…

What a great day, visited the set no words to describe the moment of walking through the doors. Amazing the closest ill ever get to being the Dr in the Tardis. At 44 my inner child was jumping for joy. Fantastic. Also great new additions to the experience, it just got to be done every year. Cannot help but wonder where they go from here with Peter taking over hmmmmm.

Do they allow filming? I was thinking about a nice shot of entering the TARDIS, but from what you’ve said, it sounds like they only let you do it once you’re in there, and it’s only photos?

The Tardis was BRILLIANT!!, while we were waiting to go in, the tour guide made a quiz for us to do. I did the ultimate tour: The Walking tour first, then the Tardis and then the experience.

am going to that very soon, do you get to touch or go near the console at the BBC studio or is it all fenced of?

    • MONKEY MONK MONK

      August 8th, 2013 - 7:27pm

no you can’t touch anything as it is a working set and they might have to use it anytime so it is fenced off but you can still go downstairs 🙂

Your allowed VERY VERY close but can’t touch considering of filming (Basically I mean if the Doctor made a leaver go up, you pulled down and they were filming again it would be pulled down instead of up.)

Seems like all the tickets to go around the studios have been snapped up? a pity really as i would have loved a look around the location.

Not to worry i will be still coming down for the experience in a couple of weeks (was there last year!).

Are you given full access around the set? As in, are you allowed to touch the console, or go up the stairs to the balcony or down the stairs to the controls underneath?

you can walk around yes but cant touch the console, its a working set, not an exhibit and they need everything to stay where it is for continuity purposes.

you cant go to the top level because of safely but there is still plenty to see, you wont regret it
