Doctor Who to Return with ‘The Bells of St John’ – First Official Picture!

Doctor Who is to return to BBC One on 30 March in a modern day urban thriller announced today as ‘The Bells of St John’, as the first official image is revealed giving fans a sneak peak at what to expect from the epic new series.

Written by Steven Moffat, ‘The Bells of St John’ will mark the official introduction of the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Having already made two appearances last year, the opening episode will be the first time fans get to see the Clara that will accompany the Doctor across the series’ eight adventures.

Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge, ‘The Bells of St John’ will also establish a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.

Steven Moffat, executive producer and lead writer, said:

“It’s the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what’s going on! We’re up in the sky and under the sea! We’re running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There’s new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor’s greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn’t already our most exciting year it would be anyway!”

Featuring a movie a week from a ghost story to an underwater siege to a period drama, the new series will also introduce new monsters, as well as bringing back fan favourites the Ice Warriors and Cybermen.

Meanwhile the series’ stellar list of guest stars include: Celia Imrie; Richard E Grant; Warwick Davis, Jessica Raine; Dougray Scott and Tamzin Outhwaite, as well as for the first time on screen together, mother and daughter Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling.

Same here. Letting the Doctor spill his real name all over the pavements would ruin most of the mystery of the show.

Thank God! That old School Lego Hand was not appreciated in my opinion. It always made them that little bit more unrealistic and silly. At least now they can grip onto door handles properly… More or less…

Well, judging by what I’ve heard, the Cybermen will be going back to their classic series roots and will be slightly frightening like they were back in the 80’s. I partly agree with Mr Anonymous when he says that it’s a nickname for these new monsters or whatever they are. Lol. Spoon Heads. What a name. At least young Dr Who fans will know that they have to eat their veggies or else their spoons will attack them! That’s what I love about Dr Who, they make everyday objects scary!

HA HA! The Ice Warriors look Fantastic! I’m glad they kept to the original design and they haven’t completely stuffed it up like they did the Silurians. For some reason I have a funny feeling that they’ll look slightly different in the actual episode. Guess I’ll have to wait and see!

It would be unlikely, as the classic series was killed off. Surely they would give us the name then, if they had it for all those years.

I think David Tennant would make a better Joker, than Matt Smith and Heath Ledger combined. 🙂

Hooray for classic monsters but where are THE CLASSIC’S…you know what I mean, The lads, the boys, The Daleks! It’s not just Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, it’s the Daleks too, they deserve a 50th anniversary episode and Asylum of the Daleks doesn’t count because it was crap.

Love the picture and the new ice warriors. Would be super cool if it was the doctor and Clara smashing through the shard in London

I think it is more of a nickname the doctor calls them! Which isn’t bad, maybe they are spies from the lady in the trailer ( who says something about clara being pretty) and they don’t really have a name, but the docotr gives it to them?

I know it is a rubbish name for a monster but that’s one monster .I think the weeping angels are scary as hell and the silence were rather scary aswell and where getting a ghost episode and everyone knows ghost stories are scary doctor is still scary

Comsidering the Doctor explained he chose his name alike the Master, I wonder why his name is so important. If the universe falls when the Doctor Who is answered, then why would the Doctor answer it. He said there is only one reason in the Forest of Dead, but why, I hope we find out, not actually the name but why he would say it.

who knows maybe moffat does know the doctors real name. something originally created and kept secret by someone like sydney newman or verity lambert that has been passed down between showrunners over the last 50 years. unlikely i know but maybe.

It seems the slight tweaks hopefulyl have made the Ice Warriors look a little more modern, just how I wanted. Hope the body isn’t like a full makeover, but their head looks pretty good in my opinion 🙂
