Elisabeth Sladen [1948-2011]

A picture is worth a thousand words… please feel free to print and circulate.

Tom Baker…

Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions. She can’t be dead. But she is: she died yesterday morning. Cancer.

You can read the full tribute Here.

Matt Smith…

“What struck me about Lis was her grace. She welcomed me, educated me, and delighted me with her tales and adventures on Doctor Who. And she also seemed to have a quality of youth that not many people retain as they go through life. Her grace and kindness will stay with me because she had such qualities in abundance and shared them freely. I will miss her, as will the world of Doctor Who and all the Doctors that had the good pleasure to work with Lis Sladen and travel the universe with Sarah Jane.”

David Tennant…

I just can’t believe that Lis is gone. She seemed invincible. The same woman who enchanted my childhood, enchanted my time on Doctor Who and enchanted generations who have watched her and fallen in love with her – just like I did. I feel very honoured to have shared a TARDIS with Sarah Jane Smith, and I feel very lucky to have shared some time with Lis Sladen. She was extraordinary.

Russell T Davies…

“I absolutely loved Lis. She was funny and cheeky and clever and just simply wonderful. The universe was lucky to have Sarah Jane Smith, the world was lucky to have Lis.”

Nicholas Briggs…

We are all so shocked and so very sad at the news of the death of Lis Sladen. Only yesterday I was filming a DVD extra in which I was talking with such heartfelt passion about how she was so ‘luminous’ on screen and how brilliant she was as Sarah Jane Smith.

Please bear in mind some comments on this site are from very young and upset people. This news as come as a great shock to many fans, old and new.

RIP Liz/Sarah Jane. One of the best, if not the best assistant. Uncanny that planet of spiders released shortly before her passing.

I woke up on Wednesday morning to find my mum sitting at her computer. She called me over and I couldn’t believe what was on the screen. Elisabeth Sladen Dead! It just seems impossible. R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen. Forever in our hearts. And another thing I think they should make the tribute to her longer. At least half an hour or a quarter of an hour. I also nearly cried writing this. And as I said earlier R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen. Forever in our hearts.

The Impossible Astronaut will likely be a joint tribute to Lis and Nick, as it’s the first episode of any of the Whoniverse shows after their deaths. There’s also a special programme about Lis on CBBC on Saturday.

Sarah Jane won’t be recast. But they could have Jo Grant return to take over – after all, she was already reintroduced to the viewers last year. It’ll probably be a while before the BBC announces the show’s fate.

Cant stop people from dying mate, Tom and Sylvester will be gone someday themselves, but fingers crossed not for an awefully long time, i would hate to see them go so soon, but like William, Patrick and Jon, when all the Actors who have played the Doctor have passed away, their incarnations of the Doctor will allways live on, as long as we watch Doctor Who, after all, as Elisabeth Sladen said last year as Sarah Jane Smith ” With friends like us, his NEVER going to die !! ” 😀
