I hope to see these missing episodes on DVD as it would be great to have more DVDs in our collection for both early Doctors

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:27pm

if they have been found, then there is NO DOUBT that they will eventually release them on dvd. To be honest that was a pretty stupid comment to post Jonathan, OF COURSE they’ll release them on dvd. Every doctor who fan across the world would be furious with the bbc if they didn’t 🙂 Especially this one

I don’t mind which serial it is, but when they discover more Hartnell episodes, I hope it will be the missing parts of The Celestial Toymaker.

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:14pm

A poll to see which serials episodes most people would like to see back would be interesting !!

    • Nick

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:21pm

      A poll? I’m in.

Most wanted Hartnell: Masterplan, Toymaker, Savages, Galaxy 4

Most wanted Troughton: Both Dalek stories, both Yeti stories, Fury, Macra

But if I had to pick a story to be completed it would have to be The Invasion. Only 2 eps required!

  • The TARDIS

    October 7th, 2013 - 7:03pm

I don’t know whether I would rather go for ages constantly reading things confirming and then denying rumours, or just know there were none left to find. I don’t know which is worse…

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:09pm

The way to go is to hold these stories in total disbelief because if they’re wrong you’re not going to be disappointed and may in fact get a little sadistic pleasure from the unfortunates who proudly proclaimed the story on minimal and very dodgy ‘facts’..

If something does come of it you can go around shouting ‘husar husar new episodes found’…and I still get extremely thrilled – especially over the recovery of that splendid galaxy four episode…..

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:13pm

For the most part now though we know one thing for sure that almost every missing episode is a gem and its going to be a delight with any new finds that do occur mainly because Hartnell and Troughton are a joy to watch every time !!!

Ian Levine has said on his twitter page that 9 episodes have been found, and that the press release has been pushed back to latter this week. BBC worldwide have also confirmed this. So stop saying it is all a hoax people!

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 6:03pm

can you link to where BBC worldwide have confirmed this news

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 6:07pm

      What a load of rubbish………

Levine was saying there were lord knows how many coming from africa a few months back….

Next they’ll be saying these episodes are being ferried from Africa by a group of Yeti riding the back of the Loch Ness monster watched by a fleet of Martian flying saucers….

At least try and give these stories some credibility….

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 6:21pm

No sign of a link to that BBC confirmation yet Booboo !!!

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 6:23pm

there is none, I’m confident of that, just a “spokes person” plucked from thin air

cant wait to see how this plays out

I’m sure things have been found, exactly what is anyone’s guess

    • drjakeyoung

      ‘wah wah wah wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh’

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:27pm

I wonder how the BBC in the current climate of concerns about expenditure can presumably book a hotel for a press meeting go to the effort of printing up special invites etc…only to cancel one day before the meeting is due…now come on who actually takes this seriously still ??

  • ZygonTerror

    October 7th, 2013 - 5:36pm

It would be nice to see something from the macra terror being discovered as so little exists of it already.

    • Some bloke

      October 7th, 2013 - 5:42pm

That’s my second most wanted story returned next to fury from the deep 🙂 Oh by the way guys, the bbc have postponed the conferenc tomorrow, until the end of this week. They reckon they will announce which episodes have been recovered then 🙁 ITS TAKING FOREVER

  • HornsOfAzal

    October 7th, 2013 - 3:44pm

I tried to post a little more about what the DG is up to tomorrow and it makes for real interesting reading…alas I assume the site didnt like what I wrote…

Im just wondering what the invites to Tony Halls little soiret actually looked like…..

  • HornsOfAzal

    October 7th, 2013 - 3:41pm

    Little extract from theguardian com…

this week sees Hall’s first major speech on his vision for the BBC’s future. It will be an unashamed attempt to move the BBC from back foot to front, from retreat to advance. There will be references to “simplification”, meaning there are too many boards, too many meetings, too many people whose main role is to check on others, and not enough focus on risk-taking and the best creative outcomes – in short, too much bureaucracy. This will go down well with the frontline troops and those elsewhere who seek a more efficient BBC. But it is all much more easily said than done, and I’d be surprised to hear much by way of detail.

But the centrepiece of Hall’s presentation will be about the digital future.

wonder what the invites to Halls speech look like ???

    October 7th, 2013 - 3:37pm

Im confused on source says it’s two episodes does that mean two orphan episodes or two complete story’s and another source say’s it’s 100 and other says it’s 90

MAKE UP YOUR MIND IF ANY MISSING EPISODES HAVE BEEN FOUND HOW MANY ARE THERE?

  • HornsOfAzal

    October 7th, 2013 - 3:19pm

How interesting tomorrow the DG of the BBC is holding a major meeting about the future of the Beeb…including news of a new BBC Iplayer….

Funny it should be the same day as this meeting about Doctor Who….purportedly…..

    • Some bloke

      October 7th, 2013 - 3:56pm

a new bbc iplayer? Dunno anything about that but I know that a BFI player is set to be released soon

Two facets of the omnirumour continue to intrigue me. I’ve now heard no less than FIVE African countries being mentioned – Siera Leone, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Not quite sure why that is. Possibly just Chinese whispers. But also it’s possible that if someone has made it his mission to scour Africa for lost episodes he could well have visited all those countries and accumulated goods in several places. This would explain the POV of those contesting the Ethiopia situation and quoting the “fact” that they only had 77 episodes in the first place. Just a thought.

Secondly….how on earth is it that there is such a wide variation in numbers quoted?! The first few things I read said it was definitely 90. Then I read a couple saying 94. Then “over 100”. Then 106, ie all of them. And at the other end of the scale I’ve heard it’s only around a dozen and even some of those could be duplicates!

In spite of these inconsistencies hovever, I’ve heard some interesting info from a variety of sources that seems for the most part to be non-contradictory and it basically adds up. I’m thinking the BBC were probably planning to make an announcement during the anniversary celebrations but there have been so many leaks they’ve reluctantly decided to bring it forward. Lets all hope for the best. Anything at all is great news, but the more the merrier, obviously, and I can’t wait to see these stories on my shelf at home with all the others. I never thought I’d see the day. Nobody did. And of course maybe we won’t. But let’s hope tomorrow brings something wonderful and we can all party like we mean it for the rest of the year, eh?

Well Sierra Leone had all of Series 3 apart from Mission to the Unknown and The Daleks’ Master Plan, but they were all seemingly lost in a fire in 1999. It could be possible the films managed to escape (but that’s all they had, so it is possible it is from a combination of countries, especially as there were no Troughton episodes yet they seem to be the ones people are certain of).

    October 7th, 2013 - 12:19pm

Apparently that’s the BFI confirmed they are hosting the event so it is real and something has been found.

    • Nick

      October 7th, 2013 - 12:57pm

The BFI are hosting the press conference? Or maybe co-hosting it with the BBC? Not heard mention of that elsewhere. Source…?

Said press conference now reportedly delayed

      all getting rather silly

    • Tim M

      October 7th, 2013 - 5:04pm

Yep…announcement on missing episodes found will not be announced in full until later in the week. But something or several things most certainly have been found of that I’m very sure. Whatever has turned up is worth a little celebration in this 50th anniversary year. I hope the three stories often mentioned as possible finds are true and that ‘Marco Polo’ , ‘The Enemy of the World’ and ‘The Web of Fear’ have been found complete. They are 3 stories that I very highly regard, 2 are classics and 1 is very underrated but a gem nonetheless.

  • Tim M

    October 7th, 2013 - 10:14am

I’m convinced now that something has been found regarding missing Doctor Who. And if (and it’s a BIG IF) anything substantial has been found in foreign tv station archive, then the likely countries that could possibly still hold episodes could be Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and/or Nigeria. Information on the whereabouts of what happened to their prints is a bit sketchy. They are not known to exist in these countries and yet there isn’t any confirmation or paper work to say what actually happened to them. So they could in all possibility just be lost somewhere in their archives.

  • Nick

    October 7th, 2013 - 9:18am

These are “believed” to be both Troughtons. But believed by whom and why? Could well be the two eps we already knew about. Disappointing if so. Conversely, a guy on another site made a most intelligent suggestion I’m putting forward as highly likely: Ice Warriors 2 & 3. I agree with the other guy’s reasoning. The DVD with animated eps has only just come out, the BBC spent a lot of money on it and will want to sell all the copies they’ve made, so a special edition of that story is not likely to be seen any time in the next few years. The perfect candidate for some kind of appetiser if you ask me.

There also seems to be a lot of confusion – as always! – as to the difference between an epidode and a story. They are highly unlikely to be putting a couple of random episodes from completely / almost-completely lost stories like Macra Terror or Fury From The Deep on the internet, are they? And they are equally unlikely to be putting complete stories on here either because they probably believe that will have negative impact on DVD sales in the future.

Yes, yes, yes, we all want this to be true. Can’t say I’m that excited about The Massacre or Marco Polo, but even they would be a very exciting alternative to nothing at all. I’m not as paranoid about this rumour show as most seem to be. Frankly I believe it now. It’s too big and detailed a rumour to have no basis in fact at all to my mind. Especially now both the Sunday People and Radio Times have given it some credence.

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:21am

its going to be a very interesting few days that’s for sure – whatever happens

    • Johnny

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:31am

I would love even one single episode form “The Massacre” to be returned as I love the story.

On the other hand *any* episode recoveries are good in my point of view.

    • Nick

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:37am

I couldn’t agree more. ANY missing episode being recovered now is phenomenally good news. Precious little has surfaced in the last 20 years. But everything is relative, right…?

What price Evil Of The Daleks? I would pay £50 for THAT DVD without complaints, no question! Id probably also pay that for The Massacre if I had to, but I’d probably moan about it for a while.

    • Jamiouse

      October 7th, 2013 - 10:30am

Even if no complete stories have been found random orphan episodes is still great news. Just see what Marco, Savages or Fury looked like would be amazing, hopefully though it will be complete stories or enough episodes to make animation possible for DVD release.

  • Imaginethatnodoor

    October 7th, 2013 - 7:40am

I hope it’s the wheel in space’s missing episodes. Or power of the daleks. Just episode 1 if any

  • Dalek The Supreme

    October 7th, 2013 - 4:17am

I do hope it has something to do with The Power of the Daleks, The Evil of the Daleks, or The Web of Fear! 😀

  • HappyZero

    October 6th, 2013 - 10:25pm

What’s all this about a press conference on Tuesday?

    • HappyZero

      October 6th, 2013 - 10:29pm

      According to bleeding cool news.

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:56am

there is a press conference but know one know what its about yet, could be anything.

  • The 14th Doctor

    October 6th, 2013 - 9:38pm

It’s been pretty much confirmed by the BBC that something has been found. Not nearly as much as these rumors are claiming, but SOMETHING has turned up.

I hope an episode Power of the Daleks is found.

  • TheWhomobile

    October 6th, 2013 - 9:35pm

I remain very sceptical about these rumours but I’d love some more of the Evil of the Daleks

  • Some bloke

    October 6th, 2013 - 9:10pm

why do they have to release them digitally?! 🙁 I don’t have itunes, nor any apple products

    • Ross

      October 6th, 2013 - 11:03pm

You don’t need an Apple product to use iTunes. You can download it for free from http://www.apple.com/itunes.

    • Johnny

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:06am

Presumably *if* anything has been recovered, BBC Worldwide would release it on DVD.

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:18am

would imagine sow but i suppose it depends on what they have found

so far it 2 poor quality eps to 89 episodes, anyone guess at this point

    • Some bloke

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:14am

      still don’t wanna use itunes

  • 100000BC

    October 6th, 2013 - 8:57pm

    • videogamemad00

      October 6th, 2013 - 9:00pm

It says 2, not sure which ones. Probably none, don’t get your hopes up.

      October 6th, 2013 - 9:10pm

      Rhetorical Question.

    • Anonymous

      October 6th, 2013 - 9:16pm

Two are to be released, although more have seemingly been recovered.

If the rumours are true we should find out next week.

    • Some bloke

      October 6th, 2013 - 9:18pm

but the episodes are rumoured to be released THIS wednesday, anonymous…?

    • HornsOfAzal

      October 6th, 2013 - 10:46pm

Why would they release them on ITunes before dvd ???

They’ve always made fans wait ages for new material right back to when Tomb was found back int he 90s……

    • booboo

      October 7th, 2013 - 8:10am

I can see why they might do it. If the rumours are true and numerous episodes have been recovered its way of wetting peoples appetites.

better than “we have recovered “x” number of episodes but you are going to have to wait months before you can see any on them” i suppose

There is a press conference Tuesday although no one knows what its specifically about.

    • MasterKasterborous

      October 7th, 2013 - 7:10am

Actually they got Tomb out on VHS very quickly.

    • Johnny

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:08am

It actually took six months for “Tomb of the Cybermen” to be released on VHS once the episodes had been recovered.

    • MasterKasterborous

      October 7th, 2013 - 4:42pm

Which is no time at all! Think about how long it took to get Air Lock onto DVD which they did as quickly as they could. Tomb was kept secret for as long as possible to stop the wait being longer and they didn’t do any restoration.

  • Doctor, 13

    October 6th, 2013 - 8:42pm

The Power of the Daleks and The Abominable Snowman please. Not The Ice Warriors and The Invasion thank you.

    • DoctorPlatypus

      October 7th, 2013 - 6:36am

we need episodes from the Power of the Daleks/Highlanders/Macra Terror/ Evil of the Daleks/Fury from the Deep

  • DoctorPlatypus

    October 6th, 2013 - 8:33pm

I hope it is some episodes from the Power of the Daleks (Troughton’s first serial)

  • Jamie

    October 6th, 2013 - 8:33pm

I will remain sceptical until the BBC themselves confirm it. The RT website isn’t really any more reliable than any other site…

    • Johnny

      October 7th, 2013 - 9:10am

The RT website hasn’t been updated for sometime, so I wouldn’t expect any announcement to be posted on there.

    • MasterKasterborous

      October 7th, 2013 - 4:45pm

The RT (Radio Times) is regularly updated. The RT (Restoration Team) site, like you said Jonny, is not as much. I think we should stop abbreviating things! 😛
