I thought River Song might have been the doctors mother.

jUST WANTED TO ADD A COMMENT TO THE DEBATE ABOUT HOW COMPLICATED IT HAS BECOME, I look forward to it each week now, the more complicated the more of a challenge it is. I think we dumb down tv (especially for kids) who in my experience can easily handle this, especially with a good chewy conversation with an adult about time travel paradox and all that. BBC, do not stop this trend in DR WHO, keep it chewy and interesting, you might not please everyone but those with a hunger for using their heads will keep coming back for more.

“I mean the Doctor is fooling around with someone he knows as a baby? Eww.”

Why’s that a problem? It’s a bit like saying it’s wrong to fool around with someone you were friends with as a child, and it’s not like the Doctor is physically an old man by the time he and River have their relationship. To be honest I think the assertation that this was inappropriate says far more about your thought processes than it does about Steven Moffatts. No child would even pick up on it.

Jenny was the friendly soldier, who “knew the Doctor when she was young”. Different actress, regenerated?

I thought the first 35 minutes were mostly a bit meh… not awful, but it felt more like a Russell T Davies fever dream than what we’ve come to expect from Steven Moffatt. It picked up after that and the little twists then the big reveal were awesome… but overall it was let down by that first 35 minutes, the only way it could have been more RTDesque would have been to set it in a council estate!

Rory is Rivers father not the Doctor.
The baby has had Time Lord DNA syphered into her DNA, possibly as she was concieved whilst Amy and Rory were travelling through the time vortex on the TARDIS or possibly as the baby has had he DND tampered with by Madame Kovarian. These are further questions that need to be answered in part 2.

And let’s not forget, ‘Jenny’ (his generated daughter) was in the episode last night as well….didn’t anyone else spot her?

And who says that River told the Doctor she was Melody Pond? No proof of that at all. The Doctor has a different story as to who River is to him.

I suspected that River was Amy’s daughter right from Day of the Moon. Also, why would River go to prison for killing someone when she was a little girl, also, why would she kill the doctor or rory????

I know what you’re talking about whofan4ever, but there’s a shot where River says “can’t you read” to the Doctor and then it specifically pans to the Gallifreyan script on the side of the cot… that’s what we were yacking about because castrovalian thought it might be River’s name, not the Doctor’s.
Like you said, the Doctor may have actually been looking at the embroidery during this pan (which would make the most sense), but we don’t actually see him look at it, which is odd. (Amy makes the same mistake at first, looking at the Gallifreyan writing before realising River is pointing to the embroidary…)

It’s also possible that the Doctor didn’t notice the embroidery at all (he didn’t pick it up or turn it over) and makes the connection because River can read the Gallifreyan script/Doctor’s name. (And therefore River learned of the Doctor’s real name from the crib when she was a baby, and was then able to tell it to the 10th Doctor in ‘Silence in the Library’. Yes, it seems silly that a baby would remember, but the adult River said she remembered the crib…

Either way, this scene was a bit confusing… the dialogue and camerawork seemed to be going off in different directions at times…

Good point Master, I’ll ask YOU a question now. Where are you? Will we be seeing you any time soon and if so, how did you escape your demise in the End of Time part 2, given that it WAS, or May have been, fatal?

Tell me tell me tell me!

I don’t fully get it. If Riversong is Melody Pond (how clever of the writer) and she’s PARTLY TIMELORD then does that mean Riversong herself is a bit of a timelord?

❓ She WAS the Doctor’s wife, countless time ago when he conceived children and became a fathering Timelord? ❓ WOW

What do you mean TardisBlue? Just because YOU weren’t able to comprehend the episode, AND it wasnt what YOU in particular wanted, means that it’s rubbish?

What he war was about, what they wanted the child for and why they were headless monks, is all IN the episode. Maybe the madness/craziness of the series plot.etc is too much for your viewing appetites, you cant expect to understand the story without imaginative viewing. 😐

I was sceptical about what it would BE like, after the previews etc. , but the show was fabulous to watch. It was TOTALLY different from last series finale, which is pleasing for me. 😉 because I thought it might end up being a bit samey.

Great TV production, doesn’t come any more spectacular than 2011s Dr Who series.

Steven Moffat has undertaken the massivest challenge ever with this series. With Series 6 I thInk he’s made a genius plan, having a mid-series cliffhanger.

I don’t think that the cot was the doctors. He had a granddaughter (Susan) way back when William Hartnell was the first doctor. So I think that the cot was for his son or daughter. Main reason behind this thinking is that the doctor didn’t answer when asked if he’d ever had children.Later on he did say that the cot was his and he slept there but as we keep hearing “The doctor lies” Can’t help wondering if things will come full circle and River will turn out to be Susans mother. Also wondering if the goodman is Rory and not the doctor after all.

It is implied that River is the little girl in the Spacesuit… but I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s a complicated red herring either, since River didn’t seem to recognise the spacesuit that the little girl had ripped out of…

I’m not convinced that River is the Spaceman that kills the Doctor. The invited River watching the Doctor die with Rory and Amy had just come from jail, and if she was jailed for shooting the Doctor (wearing the Spacesuit) then she would have expected her past self to come out of the lake in the Spacesuit. (She seemed genuinely suprised!) Also, she fired a gun at the spaceman after it killed the Doctor too… it wouldn’t make sense to shoot at her past self afterwards… although I think she does know something about the Spaceman (she says ‘of course’ or something like that).

I wouldn’t be suprised if River kills Rory somehow… his photo wasn’t in the little girl’s room after all, only Amy’s… that and Rory hasn’t died for a while :p

And River’s only part Tile Lord… or rather a human that has taken on Time Lord characteristics (and possibly been modified further by the Silence, etc)

The title of the next episode, “Let’s kill Hitler”, shouldn’t be taken literally in my view. When River turned up at the end she was talking to the Dr, trying to show him how he is viewed by others, and maybe trying to make him realise that by being who he is he is actually changing too much.

This theme was explored in the “Waters of Mars”, where the Dr said it was a fixed point in time, that couldn’t be changed. Yet he did it in the end (although Adelaide Brooke kills herself back on Earth once she realises what the Dr has done, accepting she should have died on Mars). He then rewrote time to bring back Rory at the end of Series 5.

River, on the other hand, has been much more cagey. We haven’t heard her use it in episode 7, but one of her catchphrases was “spoilers” – she knows what is to happen, and seems determined it must happen, despite all the complications of meeting the Dr in the wrong order.

So back to “Lets kill Hitler” – perhaps it’s an idea so fantastic that it can’t happen. Go back in History and kill Hitler, and just how much History would change? This is the second part of this story (episode 7 and 8 are a two-parter), we know that Melody is ultimately safe because of the adult River, but History (or destiny depending on where you are on the timeline) must happen, with all the consequences. That will ultimately include the death of “the good man” by River.

i think the reason they all came back was because they had a debt to pay the doctor.

That was the best episode of doctor who ever. So River Song is Amy and Rory’s daghter. What a fabulaous ending. I can’t beleive it Sontarans, Silurians were helping the doctor. I hope the cybermen come back in the next episode of Doctor Who in Let’s All Kill Hitlar

AND, SHE KILLS THE BEST MAN SHE EVER KNEW, THAT COULD BE RORY OR THE DOCTOR, BUT THE DOCTOR GETS KILLED BY THE GIRL IN THE SPACESUIT, AND RIVER CAN’T BE IN 2 PLACES AT ONCE, UNLESS THAT WAS HER FROM HER PAST. BUT I THINK THAT IT HAS MORE CHANCE THAT SHE KILLS THE DOCTOR, BECAUSE THE EYE PATCH LADY SAID SHE WOULD BE A WEAPON AGAINST THE DOCTOR!! DOES ANYONE AGREE??
